Resigning yourself to "Well Batman's the only book that will ever sell so put everything important in Batman" then you're just ensuring a slow degeneration for everything else.

If your point is that they wouldn't trust Abnett with the keys then you could put a better writer on it. This is an editorial criticism about them tripling down on already successful books instead of trying to put good talent and public interest into other books.

Titans is a sticking point because it was obviously the most sensible choice. DCU Rebirth is the best capeshit DC's put out in years and the starring character has done absolutely nothing since it happened. Just rotted away in a D+, third rate team book.

Deathstroke is more relevant and promoted. Good as that series has been it's still insane to say that.

Deathstroke is a great book but it's no more relevant to the DCU than any other. Most people who are fans of Titans wouldn't want Priest writing the book. Priest gave an interview earlier this year where he talked about wanting to write a grounded super-team book focused on the consequences of that heroism. Titans fans don't want that. They want super friends eating pizza and drinking pop. This team exists for no reason except fans wanting this group to hang out together.

Hitch is on JL he hasn't done anything with Rebirth and the book has been drek but this arc looks entertaining at least. Williamson is a new stud so he gets to put his stamp on the DCU. Jurgens has been writing the pre-Flashpoint Supes in a post-Flashpoint world since Convergence so of course he was going to get a piece of the big plot.

Abnett is mediocre and doesn't have a large following so he gets to drag Aquaman to the depths and churn out Titans for two years.

Jurgens is offensively mediocre but he's been carrying his NotMuh flag proudly since Convergence and it got him Action Comics with the "REAL" Superman. Rebirth's overarching theme has been nostalgia and inoffensive status quos. So why not throw he king of mediocre a bone.

Justice League will always get plot relevance because it's the A-List superteam. Hitch name on the cover is still a draw.

Orlando's JLA will get some of the Rebirth plot as well.

Abnett isn't doing a better job than any of those guys and he's got no clout. Why would they give him a chance to write anything important?

Red hair with a red open cowl looks awful. Two barely different shades of red don't make a good break. It's just poorly designed. The fact that he's wearing a reskin of his Kid Flash costume instead of a Flash costume speaks volumes about him still being the Kid Flash to Barry's real Flash.

It's a shitty compromise, only it's not a compromise, it's just full out defeat. Just like Wally being stuck in Titans despite his triumphant return.

Hey Nigga don't shit on Aquaman. Tempest here though, what is his purpose? Dick and Wally are kind of like the leaders with well established personalities and a large fandom that draws people in, Omen is there for the obligatory magic character, Roy and Donna bring their own trouble pasts and urge to fuck each other so what does Tempest do? Near as I can tell he has done two things, use Altantean tech to build the tower faster (who gives a fuck?) and maybe he wants to fuck Omen.

This is a team that's mandated by history. They're all from the original Teen Titans run. It started with Dick, Wally, and Garth doing a few team-ups before they became a team. Donna joined for their first "official" adventure and came up with the team name. Roy did the "I'm a moody teenager so I refuse to join, but I'll show up to help out every few issues." Lillith, Mal, and Bumblebee all came along later, but they're still from that first Titans book in the 70s.

So the team was made in advance, it's just up to the writer to give everyone something to do.

Although now that I'm thinking of the original Teen Titans book, something else occurs to me: If this goes on long enough, there's a chance Hawk and Dove might show up. Or even Duella Dent.
