TOP FUCKING KEK, THIS IS HILARIOUS.
>>
>>90518477
Yes, how dare they not go to the literal bottom of the seas to film that scene! The hacks!
>>
>>90518477
I don't understand, how were they supposed to shoot that scene underwater? I mean I guess they could have made more of a set but the scene they were doing has so much movement that it'd be impractical.

There's a big difference between a CGI scene shot at the bottom of the ocean and, say, a CGI airport.
>>
>>90518477
The thing is, they had to create new technology that imitates movement underwater, of course it was going to be CGI, but maybe we're gonna see some groundbreaking shit right there
>>
>>90518477
CGI is such a cop out, they should've given Momoa gene therapy so he could grow gills.
>>
>>90518477
>>90519270
They've gotta feel like such jackasses while shooting these scenes.
>>
>>90519270
Wait, the entire fucking airport was CGI?

Not even company warring, i genuinely didn't know.
>>
>>90519761
Im sure they feel like well payed jack asses who then drive back to their mansions and feel real bad about it.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/12/11664554/captain-america-civil-war-cgi-visual-effects-spider-man-interview

>"The airport is a hundred percent digital," ILM visual effects supervisor Russell Earl tells me over the phone. "Spider-Man, Giant-Man, and Black Panther are always one-hundred percent CG. Iron Man, War Machine, and then we’ve got Vision." The exceptions were characters like Black Widow, Captain America, or Winter Soldier — basically, the few people not wearing a mask of some sort. But while directors Joe and Anthony Russo did shoot at an airport in Germany, only a handful of principal cast members were there — with the majority of the live-action footage shot against a giant green screen in Atlanta, Georgia and assembled by the visual effects team later.
>>
Pretty sure more people are wondering why you still have a job, Zack.
>>
>>90519783
The airport was in Germany and they shot in Atlanta. I mean I guess there's an airport in Atlanta they could've passed of as in Germany but this was probably easier and cheaper. It does have a weird unreality to it though.

And if the backdrop is fake surely it could have looked cooler than that.

>>
>>90518477
Honestly, that's pretty cool. Not like they could film it underwater for real; I mean, they COULD, but then every take would only be able to last a minute or two. Not to mention he'd be reflexively squinting all the time; silly as it looks, this is most definitely the best way to go about doing underwater effects for Aquaman.

It's a shame all this work will go to waste when Snyder finally strikes out, but hopefully we'll still have based Wan's Aquaman solo movie to fall back on.

What is the point? If it can convey well what is the deal? Are people batching about "principle" or something? I can understand when the greenscreen is shit, it a lot of these aren't.

>>90529211
It's bad when Snyder does it

In fairness he smears the footage with unappealing filters which distracts the viewer and makes him look for CGI

Other directors use filters too, some just let everything look more or less natural, but Snyder's choice of filters invites this sort of criticism

Maya has a "student edition" version, which is free iirc.

You can get external render engines (they use Arnold and Vray in BvS, I think, but I recommend Arnold) as trials and hire render farms later. I think as of 2017 Maya has Arnold built in, and Renderman (Pixar's render engine) is free.

The disingenuous criticism of MoS starting this. Now all epic clashes have to take place in padded rooms or vast dunes that are greatly distanced from civilization. The airport made sense, it's where the aircraft they were trying to get to in order to get away was located, and it was large enough that the other Avengers could hide there waiting for them to arrive.

As far as airports go, you never ever get the chance to smash them up or have a low-sec outfit like a film crew work with explosives on them. They simply cost too much to run, so you've got to do them in CGI (or use an office building for interiors and shoot really tight angles that don't show you there's no runway outside, which doesn't help immersion since most major airport terminals the world over suffer from greenhouse syndrome).

If you're just upset that they included an airport in a chase movie... can't help you.

If you're upset that they had the set-piece fight there - sure they did, it's where the toys are most clearly visible.
