You cant just create a modern day trinity, the whole point is they are 3 of the longest running and most iconic heroes of all time. You can have foils to them like the JLC or The Outlaws but you can't wholesale create a new trinity.

I think you would probably put Jonn here, not Ray, but otherwise I think it's a fair point.

However, what I think makes The Trinity what it is is the excellent balance: the detective who wants justice for those who have been denied it in the place where he and his family has deep roots but where even this doesn't provide any guarantees, the warrior who believes in peace (and other platonic ideals) and gives up her own heritage to share these with the world, the alien who could do anything but chooses to make a difference by helping his adopted world.

J'onn is actually technically considered a Golden Age character by most comic historians, albeit one of the very last, or at least an Atomic Age character. He predates Barry Allen by a year, and he's widely considered the first Silver Age character.

Also J'onn, before JLA, was mostly a detective book with the martian gimmick. He was brought into JLA specifically because he was so obscure and given a bit of a superhero makeover.

And also he didn't have his own title for a very, very long time and never even headlined an anthology like Atom.

All fair points. The issue of whether Jonn is the last GA or the first SA is argued, although I agree that the generally agreed upon consensus is Barry. Really, the point is that Barry just had one book and he never broke out the way Bruce did, nor ever had anything like the Superman Family, where his self-titled book was #1, Worlds Finest was #2 and Lois Lane was #3, all selling in the multiple hundreds of thousands every month.

I just think Barry, Hal and Ray is just a trio of 20 something middle class white male professionals. It's just pretty boring compared to (a) orphan billionaire, (b) super-powered alien and (c) amazonian princess.
