Your body generates a tremendous amount of life-saving energy, but only when you are badly injured to the point of death or near death.

Until such injury, you are just a normal guy. But after being rekt, within about a minute there is a surge of energy that can grow back your body from nothing.

For a short period of time after resurrecting, you are superhumanly strong, fast, and tough. This supercharge bleeds off over time. With training, you can harness this excess energy to channel it into healing someone else or expending it on a crude energy attack.

Dying again while already supercharged just brings you back with exponentially more power. You have trouble controlling your power after just 2 deaths, 3+ deaths usually ends in catastrophe for everything around you as you discharge randomly.

In theory, if someone could kill you enough times at your increasing levels of power, you would just explode and never reform. Dead for real.

And I do mean anything. Its not just locks or doors, your power operates on the metaphysical concept of open and closed.

You can open someones mind, or just open every wound they ever have had. Or open their ribcage like a door.

Because of the nuance of your power, you rarely know exactly what will happen if you use it for any purpose beyond the obvious. Sometimes you open things you really rather would have stayed closed.

You have a very specific and embarrassing subset of reality manipulation. You can, within a very short range, reach out with your mind and unlock someone's inner world and unleash it on the real one. Their strongest desires shape the people and world around them for a brief period of time.

This is embarrassing, because such desires are almost always specific and personal. By which I mean: yes, its probably going to be their fetish. It isn't always, but a solid 7 times out of 10 its a fetish.

The other 3 times, you usually wish it was just their fetish. Because those times its probably rooted in some deep seated trauma or occasionally psychosis. So your options are weird and sexual, incredibly fucking depressing, or just absolute nightmare fuel. Regardless of the variety of it, the person who you unlocked doesn't actually control what is happening, this just sort of vomits out of them and into the real world for a little while. How long it last depends on how strongly they want it.

And, ha ha, you only have a very vague idea of what you are going to get when you unlock someone, if you have any idea at all! And you can't use your power to unlock yourself.

You could also have both of them tied into the greater sun/moon cycles: the hero's powers wax and wane as the year goes through the Solstices and Equinoxes, the villain's powers cycle with the phases of the moon over a month, etc.

Maybe the origin is the villain was doing some arcane solar/lunar-based ritual to grant him ultimate power when the guy who becomes the hero somehow interfered, resulting the mystical powers being split between them.

Not great for crimefighting, but fuck if it wouldn't make normal life ez mode.

I think a lot about this

The ability to see the past of an object/location/person. You touch a dollar bill and you can see where it's been every moment of its existence. You enter a room and you can watch what happened in that room ever since it was built.

Similarly, the ability to see the circumstances of a photograph. You could look at a picture and see what was happening around it when it was taken. You can zoom in and out, rotate around characters, look at the photographer, stuff like that. It would be useful for investigations. Want to know who killed JFK? Watch the Zapruder film in high quality, from any angle, and trace the path of the bullets back to their source.

You can get the standard superhero power set (strength, speed, invulnerability) but it's powered by shame.

To activate your powers you have to tell at least one other person something shameful or embarrassing. It has to be a different thing each time, but it could be the same person. You'd then get the powers for a set time, let's say an hour.

The more people who hear or know about your shameful thing, the longer your powers last. But if you ever learn to get over or accept that shameful thing, you lose your powers.

One guy in Misfits had Lactokinesis. He could control dairy products. This eventually got so good he could fuck with the milk-derived fatty deposits in the blood stream to cause strokes. His weakness was lactose intolerant people.

Another cool one is from a K-comic called Cashero. The people become stronger, faster, enduring. Better eyesight, better reflexes and hand-eye co-ordination. The thing that gives them their power? Cash. The more money they carry on them, the more powerful they are. Most of them are broke though
