Rightwing authoritarians are not in power. Just because they aren't as left as you doesn't make them authoritarian in anyway. Actual conservatives want less government, not more. The neo-cons and evangelicals that make up the authoritarian side of the right are a dead dying breed and do not make up the majority of the Republicans in congress. On the other hand the authoritarian lefts which include, the regressives, neo-liberals, and socialists own nearly all of the democratic party. You rarely find moderates in the democratic party and as seen they have left for the republicans which is why you see them gaining power. It comes from moderates, not authoritarians.
