I really enjoy Gumball's style of humour though, even in these threads most love its brilliance at times.
On the other hand TTG gets shit thrown at it all the time on /co/. I've not seen much of the show at all, maybe its worse than I imagine but being similar in style to Gumball, you'd think it'd be received a bit better, even considering the original TT's cancellation.

Honestly I kinda agree. Only a couple Season 3 episodes had tonal shading. The one I can think of off the top of my head was "The Shell" but from that point onwards it didn't feel that there was as much heart put into the show.

You know even without it Season 3 and beyond feels soulless for more then that reason.

From the beginning Ben Bocquelet said the thing that made Gumball so special was that you could really care and relate to the characters. Where there is some episodes that have that (The Choices) it's not as present as it used to be in S1 and 2. The characters jackasses most of the time nowadays. It's uncomfortable. Especially in episodes like the Ex.

It's depressing actually. Especially as someone who has been watching since 2011.

Honestly getting into Gumball is what made me start appreciating cynical humour more. They existed just as much in S1 and S2, it's just more amplified now. But shit it made me laugh. I don't know though, cynical humour didn't used to be my thing at all before, I feel like Gumball softened me up to it to the point of just enjoying it outright. I've enjoyed this Season, it's not been the greatest but plenty of episodes have made me laugh.

Season 1 and 2 do have a cuter style though and I do get your point about the type of cynical humour being different, in some episodes it's especially more evident than others. I was just watching the one where Simian tries to frame Gumball and Darwin and that feels straight out of S1, the whole dynamic is different now, but I personally don't think it's a bad different. We've had some really good episodes lets ignore the bad ones
