I wouldn't say not having a moral is to blame. It's that the story and interactions between the characters didn't seem to have as much impact as previous seasons. Even if the events themselves were more drastic. It's partly because we expect it at this point. But also felt like they held too much back at the end for the next season. Which was also a problem with the end of season two. Though not as severe in that case.

Because he's had enough of it to know that it isn't very satisfying.

The point is that Bojack REALLY doesn't think he deserves any sort of love. So the moment he gets it, he sabotages himself out of it.
He was making an effort to be good to Todd. He tried to set him up with Emily and all. But he didn't think for a SECOND that it was a bad idea to fuck her when she came on to him. He shot himself on the foot, again.

Todd is an ungrateful asshole for verbally dooming Bojack, though.

Then again it really seems that the only one who knows him as well as the audience does is Diane. She's the only one who actually takes into account what his parents did to him. Diane has been off having her own concurrent show apart from Bojack since season 2. The Diane Show being interesting in season 3 and a crashing bore in season 3 are significant reasons for the relative qualities of those seasons.

Everyone remembers the surprisingly hopeful final scene of season 2. Season 3 did nothing with that, nothing with Diane, nothing with anything for half the season. It was watered-down shit.
