BS for two reasons
>those same storyboardists have already made two 88 minute long miniseries, basically movies themselves, with little difficulty
>there were supposed to have been new blood helping with the theatrical movie, like those dudes who worked on the Lego Movie, to deal with these problems should they exist

it could have been made but it looks like either CN didn't let them go through with it or there were too many internal problems for it to work
