I think it could have been a good idea for a show if it had a chance. Her delusions of various threats could be externalizations of common teen (or pre-teen if she was indeed in 5th grade still) anxieties and her beating them up or figuring out ways to take them on would help her through the real-life ordeals.

Throw in a reluctant love-interest and a cat that scratches her up and a few hooks here and there that she actually is from a magical kingdom at the season 2 finale, then you can ease into an interdimensional magic blast fest.

I think the reason most people want to see Star and Marco get together in early season 3 is because we want to see if the relationship will last. We want to see how they resolve conflicts as a couple. Basically we want to be convinced if their relationship will last.

Though realistically speaking Marco may return Star's feelings in the season 3 mid-season finale. There are too many potential plots they can go through with this situation.

I'm pretty sure there's a page or two discussing this in the recent guide book that released. From what I can vaguely recall the wand can just fire magical blasts, which aren't full spells so don't need to have a name to be cast, nor a complex casting movement.

Star just makes use of narwhal blast a lot, which is really just a magical blast with narwhals and sparkles added in.

I think Glossaryck mentions that the whole 'Narwhal blast!!!' stuff is Star only. Moon is efficient and tactical with her magic, but not very creative, she can't create her own spells beyond "blasts bigger" or "fucks lizard regen".

Meanwhile Star is summoning creatures by imagination, causing trees to sprout from apples and thinking outside the bun when it comes to fiddling with spells (ala using Eclipsa's voyeur spell to actually punch through spacetime physically).

Speaking of Eclipsa, her spells seem the most creative compared to bigger blasting or summoning even more stuff to blast baddies. Maybe that's how she and Star are similar, in their lateral thinking.

I think that's one leap of logic too far. It's very likely that Moon, being studious as she is, has come up with numerous spells on her own. That being said, I can't imagine they'd be anything near as grand or imaginative as her predecessors or Star. They're much more likely to be simple and effective spells for convenience's sake or something similar.
