Do any of you guys know of a good webcomic that IS NOT comedy?

I'm familiar with Nedroid and PBF, those are pretty good. Through google searchers I've come to the conclusion that most webcomics are either something called "girl power/genius" or have a furry theme. Is there a story-driven fantasy or sci-fi or anything one out there? I think it's a good medium for an independent artists since you're not dependent on a publisher and can get good daily click rates for your website. I see threads about comedy webcomics on here sometimes but have never seen one about a "serious" one.

The only serious webcomic I read is Bastard which is a thriller/horror comic of a serial killer in Korea. If you want other genre's just go to line webtoon where everything is conveniently tagged, they also have sci-fi and fantasy stories.
>>
>Going to a webcomic aggregator
The rankings are rigged by authors placing cheesecake behind votes.

Also Tapastic has some great stuff too.

Whats that web comic with the dude that gets turned in to that dog thing? people were posting about?

I can recommend Overside.
Has several stories:
Rice Boy
Order of Tales
Vattu
It's a beautiful illustrated fantasy.
>>
>>90445735
Lezhin also has some decent stuff, but paid. Sadly, LINE's English branch has gone to shit since they started spamming short, shitty comedy webcomics by western artists.
>>
is this your first day on /co/?

Unsounded
Kill Six Billion Demons
minus (this one is a gag-a-day but it's more artistic than just dumb comedy)
Gunnerkrigg Court
Lackadaisy Cats
It Hurts (also gag-a-day but with a lot of twists and feels and an overarching plot)
>>
>>90445556

Here's some of my favorites:

>Non-Adventures of Wonderella
ded
>Achewood
ded
>Nedroid
essentially ded
>Oglaf
Comedy
>Outsider
essentially ded
>Gunnerkrigg Court
alive and bretty gud
>Whomp
bretty gud but sometimes repetitive
>Miracle of Science
The art sucks ass but the story and the little science facts were fun back when I was a lot younger.

I like string theory as far as comics that go on multi-month hiatuses can go

synopsis is basically the origin story of a mad scientist super villain as a middle aged albino government mad scientist whose life goes to shit.
>>
I miss "The Meek", it was quite good from what I remember.
>>
>>90445556

Unsounded. Good amount of edge tho, but the author is aware of it

Go read Grrl Power, the name and first 100 or so pages are deceiving as far as what the concept is.

It's a musclegirl cheesecake comic about super heroes working for a new ABC organization (think NSA, FBI, CIA etc) to deal with domestic super threats and hunting down vigilantes.
>>

Can you recommend any webcomics with TF in them? my favourite is shadoweyes
>>
>>90446263
even shitty ones
>>
>>90445556
While comedic, Shlock Mercenary is a hard sci-fi web comic that has been running (daily!) for more than ten years. It's explored a number of interesting themes, starting early on with what happens when instantaneous travel becomes readily available and currently, what happens when immortality becomes commonplace. Not to mention AIs are citizens and a million other things are going on, like an intergalactic (not interstellar, intergalactic) war.
>>
>>90446263
TF?
>>
>>90445556
Octopus Pie is pretty great. It's got some comedic elements but it's more of a slice-of-life than anything else. Plus the art is great
>>
>>90446361
Tranformation fetish. There's Out-Of-Placers, where a guy gets turned into a ratbird, and whatever that horrible genderflip/TF comic is. El Goonish Shive?
>>
>>90446361
TransFormation yo, it's fetishy

>>90445556
Kill Six Billion Demons
Riceboy
>>
I've recently started reading The Property of Hate, cute comic with some fantastic character designs aside from one of the main characters
>>

>>90445735
If you like Korean webcomics you need to check out Hellper. You might have to suffer through the beginning because it's a bit weird, the premise starts and rather weak, and you might mistake it for edgy bullshit due to the design of the main character, but it's a lot of fun if you like action comics.
>>
>>90445556
There aren't many that are strictly serious because people just aren't serious all the damn time for years on end.

But off the top of my head..

Power Nap (Dreams become reality and start killing people. Updates less frequently than VG Cats)
Scurry (animals forage for food after all the humans have died)
Endtown
A Better Place (Two kids are granted magical powers and 1000 years later one of them is the god-empress of earth)
Sword Interval (WHO YA GONNA CALL GHOSTBUSTERS)
Erma (Cute ghost girl does cute ghost things)
Erfworld (Fat guy gets transported to a tactical RPG. War ensues)
Unsounded (Zombie husbandos)
Kill Six Billion Demons (In which a woman kills six billion demons)
Stand Still Stay Silent (Post apocalyptic comic about norse dudes trying to find a cure for what's basically the T virus on crack)
Looking for Group (Warcraft-based comic by Ryan Sohmer. At the very least, it's not funny)
>>
I do comedy because I feel it's the best to practice with when it come to making a comic in general.
>>
>>90450682
To me SD stopped being good once they got out of hell desu, I just wanted a comfy kid antics in the afterlife comic, kids and fun, all that. Instead I got romance, drama and "look at my oh-so-original fantasy setting"

Then again, I should probably seen that coming while they were stilll in hell.

Are they out of that flower town yet?
>>
>>90445743
Or by placing previews, or silly doodles or whatever. You know, vote bait, which pretty much any artist can do. And there's nothing stopping you from voting every sinlge comic every single day, so whether a single comic offers cheesecake as a prize is moot
>>
>>90446119
It's fucking boring and the author constantly overexplains things and tells us rather than showing us.
>>
How do these webcomics get popular? Where would one even start?
>>
>>90456673
It really depends. Some get by on genuinely good art and/or story, so people who like it share it with others. Some rely on porn/cheesecake to draw in readers. Some just take every opportunity to share (aka advertise) their comic on social media, including tumblr, twitter, facebook, reddit, imgur, or /co/. Some cater to a specific pre-existing niche/fanbase/fetish. Many of the most popular webcomics today got to where they are simply from being in the game for a very long time and coasting on inertia, name recognition and fans who don't really care what you do.

Of course, it's almost never just one factor, but a combination of these and others.

Family Man, Rice Boy and Billy the Bad Luck Kid are fantastic. Jack might be the most autistic thing ever created, but it is also amazing. Mega Tokyo, Flipside, Unicorn Jelly, Dominic Deegan and Kaguro Electric Manga each start jokey then quickly became a little too edgy for their britches, but have nice fat archives and lore by now. There used to be one called Sixty Four Demons that was pretty metal. Vendetta, Clan of the Cats and Fallen Angel's Used Books are still around, but stalled indefinitely. Drow Tales basically existed to sell the porn spinoffs, but it was still a complete story on it's own. I dunno if Goats, Red Meat and Nana's Everyday Life count as comedy. They aren't exactly funny, despite featuring punchlines, but are nonetheless compelling. The Mansion of E defies categorization.

It becomes better.

Calling it "much" better is stretching the truth too much.

It's more the fact that becoming much better has more to do with how shitty it was at the beginning than how good is now.

Just because everyone offers you a prize doesn't change that the voting is skewed by said incentive, chucklefuck. It's a terrible system because votes primarily come from people seeking the art behind the click, not their opinion on the work.
