Season 2 ended up at least partially covering what I expected and more, so I'm pretty confident. And I was one of those who was saying after season 1 that the show seemed like it was going to step up the plot/lore/development when hardly anyone seemed to believe it.

I'm going off of the idea the original anon suggested, where Starco happens, but the two are separated by dimensions. The two move on with their lives, Marco winds up with Jackie, and they have a kid they name after Star, who is the Star from the original comics Nefcy made.

The anon before me came up with the idea of the two Stars meeting, and I expanded on it, with Marco finding the original Star looking after his daughter. You know, because seeing the woman he loved but couldn't be with watching over his daughter, who he named after her, and then having her smile at him and disappear seemed to fit with all the other bittersweet posts.

In all honesty, I think SU excels in drama between adult characters whereas Star Vs. excels with its adolescent characters. SU's pacing has gone to complete shit though whereas Star Vs.'s has always been good past the first season's half. Also, the writing in Star Vs. is generally more clever and fun.

I think Star vs is a more compelling show given that it goes all in on the complex likeable-detestable anti-hero angle and the stakes have been on the rise (Compare Toffee and Ludo to Jasper and the Diamonds who have only become more pathetic as the narrative marches on).

But as much as I don't like it now, I can't deny that Steven Universe has better songs and has made for some interesting drama such as Pearl's toxic relationship habits.

Star and I say this as a fan of both shows who has watched every episode of both shows.

Steven Universe has a serious pacing problem and fails to progress the plot and often falls flat. It has some really good episodes but it also has so many episodes that are utterly pointless wastes of time to watch where nothing happens.

Generally the plot-focused episodes are pretty good while every other episode is mediocre-bad. Problem is 70 percent of the episodes are not plot focused.

Star vs is entertaining even with it's non-plot focused episodes and it has far less of them in comparison to plot-focused episodes. Not to mention that it manages to spread the plot through even many of the non-plot focused episodes, which makes those episodes more interesting. It also avoids the terrible pacing issues SU has.

To be blunt. Steven Universe feels like a 2 season show awkwardly stretched over far more seasons with copious amounts of worthless filler.

Star on the other hand (at least at the moment) feels like it's covered exactly the amount of plot and content that it needed to cover over it's first 2 seasons.

SU was interesting in its first season but I feel like it's being pulled apart in all directions by the storyboarders like Adventure Time was. The only thing that could get me back into it is a canon Pearl/Greg relationship where they lament over the loss of Rose. Seeing the topic of remarriage covered in a cartoon and seeing Steven have to deal with it would be absolutely livid and true to the kind of stuff that made the ballsy first season's drama so good. I honestly have no idea where the show lost its charm. Maybe production is shitty. Maybe the show director's boyfriend had a big influence and his leaving as producer changed things. I dunno, whatever emotion SU has to give in an episode doesn't feel genuine anymore, and it feels like the showrunners have become too aware of SU's massive popularity to handle it well.

Star Vs. has the opposite effect. It's been getting tighter and better directed with every episode. My biggest worry is it that it will keep getting renewed and lose its charm. I honestly think 4 seasons would be enough to end the show on a good note.

Most of the revelations we got this season/in that book are better than what fans usually came up with.

Exception for me is the Ludo/Toffee/wand deal felt kind of lazy even though they set it all up properly and it is the most logical direction to go with it all. The emotional angle they're apparently going with it seems interesting and unexpected though

SU has good moments and overall, even counting recent episodes, I'd rate it a bit better than a significant amount of S1 of Star vs, but it's ended up meandering too much and that's shot the pacing in the foot. Part of that is CN actively trying to sabotage it, part of that is it just writing staff not being able to hold tension for all that long and losing focus on what works for the show.

Star vs. has better pacing and has actually improved significantly since the show started. S2 blows a majority of SU out of the water with the tighter character focus and more rapid pacing, but without moving too fast and blitzing through storylines and losing narrative tension.

I like both. I genuinely do. But I would say Star vs. is the better of the two right now, and I feel that it will get even better. I can only hope that SU gets back to what works for it.

This is my exact thought as well. I actually hate all interactions between Steven and Connie because they feel like such sheltered dweebs who don't have a full world-view (which is understandable in their circumstances, but makes them hard to relate to). On top of that, it gets weirder when you consider they're the same age as Star Vs.'s teenage cast but are drawn and written like they're a lot younger. Pearl, Greg, and Rose are the only characters I still watch the show for because their serious moments are the only ones that feel real.
