I just finished the Last Unicorn and I loved it. There are any other movies like it?

Secret of Nimh is the first comes to mind. I'd also suggest The Land Before Time, and perhaps The Hobbit (1977)

You have excellent taste.

Sad ending but it was great, nonetheless.

The Brave Little Toaster and the Iron Giant are good animated films in general. You might also want to check out An American Tail.

In terms of something similar to The Last Unicorn specifically, maybe Flight of the Dragons. I think that one gets mixed reviews. I barely remember it at all, besides its art style.

If it doesn't have to be animated: Legend, Willow, the Neverending Story, that one Wizard of Oz sequel that I can never remember the name of. Labyrinth maybe.

The Flight of Dragons and The Hobbit are from the same people, are also high fantasy stories based on books, and have very similar art styles.

But aside from that, it really depends on just what it was about Last Unicorn that you liked that you're looking to find in other movies. For example, if you want more things featuring a darker tone an adult may enjoy, there are suggestions for that, and if you're looking for fantasy movies featuring magic or creatures like unicorns, there is quite a different set of suggestions for that.

Flight of Dragons is great, imo. It's not quite as good as The Last Unicorn or the Hobbit by comparison, but still very good. Some people take issue with the ending kinda like how there are people that have trouble with the ending of The Secret of NIMH.

Oh, and you're thinking of Return to Oz I think.

Here are some generally good /co/ movies.

>Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island
I'm not saying all of these picks are 10/10 classics, but one of these things is really not like the others.

Please do not lewd Amalthea. Although she can never be so pure as she once was, she is not for sexual.

it's actually hard to describe what I like about this movie or this book

I guess it's just that all the characters are familiar yet explicitly made alien by the laws of fairytale logic so that they come off as more sympathetic than normal people having the same problem as they would

I mean the last unicorn basically has the same problem as any old woman whose kids have moved out and whose lost touch with all her old friends and that is an intensely sad thing to watch as long as you can be made to care about it

the other characters like Schmendrick and Haggard are all based on lifelong failure and if it were real people I'd just scoff and try to ignore the implications but since everything is couched in beautiful poetry and the reassurance that fairytales end happily I can actually afford to feel sorry for them

I'm not sure if it was how they condensed it to fit into a movie, but it seemed disjointed as all fuck, as if the author really wanted to have a plot, but just couldn't stop writing weird fantasy moments that they thought were artistic and just mashed them together.
>>
>>90443214
If you get a chance read the novel.
It's not very long and it's a bit smoother to read and has the same sort of atmosphere but with more of it.

It's a fantastic example of how to make a contemporary fairytale/romance, the latter in the medieval sense.

> Last Unicorn was the favorite movie of the only girl I ever thought I was going to marry

It sucks because it was a pretty sweet film

>>
>>90435662

These infographics always remind me that even though the board spends more than half its time circlejerking over shipping and porn of shitty cartoons, there's some real great people here who give a shit about animation. I never would have found half these movies if I'd never come here.
>>
>>90443366

It's more trying to convey European fable logic into a visual medium. Like I get what's you mean and agree, and that works against it as a movie, which is normally a really structured medium. Fairytales and myths tend to follow a particular style and logic where time and distance are all largely irrelevant, everything talks, every interaction is a bargain to teach a lesson, and most of the time everyone fucking dies. And so on.
>>
>>90445142
But this movie isn't pony shit.

I'm sorry, anon. Now, like she, I, too, feel regret.

I've only seen that DVD cover that gets posted occasionally on /co/, so I have no idea how good it might be, but it just looks like it doesn't fit.

The Rankin/Bass Hobbit and Return of the King come to mind.
