Why does /co/ hate Old Man Logan?
>>
I don't hate it, I just feel the ending was too stupid even for the type of story it was.
>>
I just think the synopsis is kinda stupid. I never read the whole thing.
>>
>>90427953
i love it but then again i love a lot of stuff /co/ hates
>>
>>90427953
Because Millar and Bendis. /co/ seems to love the Lemire run though.
>>
>>90427953
I liked it. Never knew /co/ didn't like it.
>>
>>90427953
I liked it, I wish Spider-man's grand-daughter was the one who came to the 616 universe, would've been cool to see Peter react to having a granddaughter that was the kingpin.
>>
>>90427953
/co/ is not one person anon
>>
>>90427953
>Mark Millar
>>
>>90427953
It's edgy, try hard shit
>>
>>90427953
I don't hate it. There's some stuff I really like about it. I like the redemption story Logan goes on, blind Hawkeye was great too, and Hulk looking like a horrifying monster was also a highlight to me. And the fact that Bruce was Logan's final opponent was a nice bookend consider he was his first opponent.

But Millar just tries to find a way to cram in edgy stuff for the sake of it being edgy. Such as Bruce raping Jen, and the incestuous Hulk kids as a whole.
>>
>>90427953
It's too inconsistent.
>>
is this the first time a Millar comic is better than the movie adaption
>>
For starters wolverine wouldn't be able to kill Colossus, Iceman and Longshot
>>
It has some edgy tryhard bullshit like Millar always pulls, but the artwork is good (McNiven's faces and action beats look amazing but he's no Bryan Hitch; his backgrounds are spare, meaning there's not the level of detail and amount of easter eggs to really make the future world feel fully-developed) and Millar paces the story well. I reread the whole thing this afternoon and I was surprised how well it holds up. You'd think Wolverine not popping his claws for seven issues would be painfully drawn out, but it works.

You can't get around how effective the general idea is, though. Wolverine as the William Munny character from Unforgiven in a desolate, hopeless future is the seed that Logan grew from and the book should deserve some credit for inspiring one of the best genre movies I've seen in a very long time.
>>
>>90427953
I had fun.
For some reason the thing that's stuck most in my mind is the little kid with the ant-man helmet. Loved that scene.
>>
>>90429844
I thought Logan cut Colossus in the Wolverine vs the X-Men story where he got possessed (Jason Aaron). Iceman he could kill if he surprised him. Shit, he and Deadpool nearly killed the AoA Iceman in Uncanny X-Force.

Longshot, not so much. Kitty, no way; not unless she didn't see him coming at all.
>>
>>90430490
Logan can't cut Colossus normally, he got possessed that adds demonic magic to his claws and that's why he could cut Colossus then.

Iceman is immortal, you can only kill him if you somehow get read of all the humidity on Earth, I don't think Wolvie can't do that.
>>
>>90429844
More to the point Logan's heightened senses wouldn't be tricked by Mysterio's low-rent special effects bullshit in the first place
>>
>>90430545
>Logan can't cut Colossus normally

When he has the fucking claws that are always stated to be able to "slice through anything"
>>
>>90430545
>Iceman is immortal, you can only kill him if you somehow get read of all the humidity on Earth, I don't think Wolvie can't do that.

Oh shit, that must be a new development. That also seems dumb. The whole Bobby as an Omega Level mutant never made a ton of sense to me. It was cool to have someone who was ultra powerful but wasn't really able to reach their potential for pyschological reasons, but it seemed odd.
>>
>>90427953
Millar's edge for the sake of edge era.
>>
>>90430698
Metal >>>> Wood, yet I can't cut a sequoia with a knife.
Adamantium means shit when you don't have the strength to back it up, Logan can only scratch Colossus at best
>>
>>90430766
He could freeze Earth if he wanted, he can't because psychological reasons, the "immortality" thing is passive though, doesn't depend on his state of mind, is always "on".
>>
>>90429844
There's also Polaris
>>
I enjoyed it, more so than any of MIllar's other work.
>>
>Wolverine kills all the X-men
That literally killed any suspense, I knew he'd be able to defeat anyone in his path, even the Living Tribunal. It was like basically reading Onepunch man, you know he isn't obliterating everybody around because the writer doesn't want that...yet.
>>
>>90427953
I don't hate it, but it's vastly overrated.

The idea itself is great, with Logan being in an apocalypse where the villains won. The issue, like with everything else Millar, is that the execution is extremely weak. The dialogue is bad, the plotting feels like the "anything that sticks" rule, and as Millar always does, there's random moments of violence that are there specifically to make everything seem adult.
>>
>>90430766
It's basically
>Hey, here's a guy that's made out of ice and can make all these ice-related things!
>Well that's cool and all, but if what you're saying is true, wouldn't *insert anything that has to do with thermodynamics being fucked with* also be possible?
>Well, huh, you see, we are writers, not scientists, but sure let's go with that
They didn't really think things through and everything escalated through the years
>>
>>90430961
The difference being One Punch Man utilizes it as humor. The joke is when you have a character so OP, then the issue isn't villains, but crippling boredom.
>>
Just another X kills the Marvel Universe but with slightly more plot
>>
>>90427953
You know what's going to happen in the end from the second it starts. Every little interesting set up has a lackluster pay off. And literally none of it was necessary with the end and extra chapter. It's simply dumb.

it was a bunch of good ideas with kinda annoying art and very poor payoffs at every turn.
>>
>>90427953
Because I don't like the hulk as a character, i never have. And for a radioactive mutation to surpase a genetic one seems (I know its a comic book) far fetched. Mutants were hunted to near extinction, but they let the hulks take over? pfft lame.
Also I don't like stories about established characters or series' that go past their limited run. I liked The Dark Knight Returns, but hated that they made sequals...and those were dumb.
I also don't like when they drag sepparate storied characters selectively into the main story...btw even though I enjoyed the Incursion story, I hated secret wars 3...and 2...and 1 for that matter. The Beyonders are a boring story concept, and for that matter so is Cosmic Marvel as a whole. not space, but cosmic is boring.
>>
>>90427953
It's fine until the end. Not only is the redneck hulk family unnecessarily edgy even for Millar, the whole "Hulk swallows guy with adamantium claws and skeleton whole" bit was completely over the top stupid.
>>
>>90429192
>Bruce raping Jen
I don't know what version of OML you read, but on my version rape was never even hinted at.
All ruce says was "she was the only one who could handle the rhythm". How the fuck do you get rape out of that?
>>
>>90433230
Correct. Ending almost ruined the whole thing. Hulk eats metal guy in pieces, metal guy regenerates then cuts open Hulk, then Hulk dies (ignore that Hulk has regenerated from a skeleton before)

But I liked it overall. Definitely not a "classic" but it was pretty good.
>>
>>90432262
I don't think they could stop the Hulks mate
>>
Its starts off strong, but slowly devolves into Millar's standard edge, grimdark crap.
>>
>ITT: Little kids with such low tolerance for violence in comics they call OML "edgy shit"
I know /co/ is a cesspool of shit taste, but this is just a step above even that.
>>
I wanna fuck Clints black daughter
>>
>>90433424
Did you even read the book or are you just shitposting?
>>
>>90433424
>she was the only one who could handle the rhythm
That...that sounds like he coould of have committed multiple rapes with horrific ends. Just imagine hentai monsterfucking but without the girls having cartoon physics to take in huge penetrations.
>>
>>90434478
I always assumed it was rape, but now that it's been mentioned, I also don't recall it ever being explicitly non consensual. I could be wrong though... I WAS pretty busy being distracted by the try-hard edge and plot armor
>>
>>90434797
It's Millar, that's exactly what he was getting at. It's also not just about the size of his dick but about super-strength fucking, and Hulk strongest there is.

>>90434837
It's incredibly likely that Millar was expressly forbidden from explicitly naming it as rape, but it was blatantly obvious that it was rape. Why would Jen just randomly be into fucking her cousin? Multiple times? And be fine with being pregnant so often?
>>
>>90435024
because that's hot
>>
I don't hate but I don't the universe is as compelling as House of M, Mutant X, or even Marvel Zombies.

A lot of cool concepts but not a lot of backstory to them. The book seemed to move way too quick IMO.

The thing I dislike most about it is how Old Logan has been pulled from what was essentially a What if? miniseries and stuck into 616 X-Men so we could have Wolverine without bringing the real one back. The difference between Old Man Logan or AoA or Days of Future Past are those timelines were directly tied into the 616 X-Men whereas Old Man Logan was clearly intended to exist on its own from the get go.
>>
>>90435727
they need to bring AoA Cyclops into 616
>>
>>90428720
They probably don't want to because they don't want to bring up how she's the daughter of Hawkeye and Spider-Man's youngest daughter.

That Spider-Man Unlimited game tried to avoid mentioning her parents.

>>90427953

I personally hate it because it is hugely overrated. I think Enemy of the State/Agent of SHIELD is a better Millar Wolverine story.

It indulges Millar's edginess too much. It completely is cribbed from Judge Dredd the Cursed earth down to the fucking dinosaur.
>>
>>90442386
But the thing is everyone hated it before LOGAN so it's not purely contrarian hipsterism.
>>
I liked that it made Mysterio out to be actually dangerous but it's just the usual trashy Millar stuff for the most part. Interesting as a What If? scenario, I guess
The Red Skull killing Cap scene just really rankles on me for some reason, hate it
>>
Oh yeah and Skull wearing Bucky Cap's uniform as his "greatest trophy" doesn't make a fucking lick of sense
>>
the fight with red skull and the fight with hulk both entirely depend on them completely forgetting that wolverine has a healing factor, and the way he beats hulk depends on millar forgetting the hulk has one too
>>
>>90427953
Because it was stupid.
>>
>>90429844

I find it funny that people criticize Logan for changing the X-Men killer from Wolverine in the comics to Xavier in the movie, even though Xavier is far more capable of killing the X-Men than Wolverine ever will be.
>>
>>90443177
I was ok with that change, but is pretty ironic taking into account how many times Magneto told Xavier what would he do if someone entered in his school and killed all his kids
>>
>>90427953
I don't, though it suffers from unnecessary Millar edge.
>Hur dur dur I fucked my sister with my giant green dong
>>
>>90427953
I don't hate it but it's massive prominence is a little undeserved.

It's a lot of little good ideas held together by a dumb shoestring setup, and weighed down by a mountain of crap ideas.

>All the supervillains working together even though all the big figures hate each other and would never work together.
>Bruce Banner being a crazy hick rapist
>A roving gang of inbred Hulks
>Red Skull being top dog
>the Venom t-rex
>>
>>90443177
Didn't Xavier kill only 7 mutants?
>>
>>90443332
That's Mark Millar for you. He's better now though. Maybe his latest work is so good because he finally found somebody to stop his shit ideas, or he grew up.
>>
>>90443508
I heard Man of Steel shattered him emotionally and he gave up on grimderp as a result.
>>
>>90443553
Hilarious if true. Though Jupiters Legacy started before MoS.
>>
>>90440887
He ages slowly. Depending on the writer it's either natural or he's slowly getting poisoned by adamantium.
>>
>>90429844
>Longshot

MoS was too much for Millar lmao. Also it's kinda weird that all the edgiest writers still like Superman.

Even Ennis is nice to Superman.
>>
>>90443693
Garth Ennis managed to make a more compelling Superman than Snyder ever did, and he hates superheroes.

Superman and Wonder Woman, I think, are the only ones he likes.

Though, he also wrote Martian Manhunter with respect too.
>>
>>90443674
I wish they'd talked more about that and referenced other X-Men. I wonder if they didn't because they wanted to keep the focus tight or because Fox execs didn't want them to.
>>

>>

Or he at least acknowledges how influential and important the character is.
>>

>>
>>90427953
I'll assume its cause Millar, which is understandable. Its a somewhat cool concept written the most plastic way with some good bits.
I sure as hell hope isnt cause the Logan movie made the book mainstream.
>>

You know that's exactly why. And the people who hated it before will be okay with being really vocal and obnoxious about it because it's cool.
>>
Also from #25, the team on OML is changing. Ed Brisson will be writing, with Mike Deodato Jr. arting
>>
>>90443786
People who pick up OML, because of Logan are going to be disappointed.
>>
>>90427953
Aside from Wolverine somehow killing all the X-Men, there is another incredibly stupid thing about the book.
The very premise that all the villains teamed up to kill all the superheroes and now rule America. Let's pretend that these villains are capable of putting their differences aside for 5 minutes to enact their "kill all heroes" plan. There is absolutely no way that after that they would just peacefully distribute the territory amongst themselves and call it a day. None of these villains would be satisfied just ruling over some turf, they'd go to war with all the other villains and there would be constan fighting. No way that Red Skull would be able to keep the White House for 50 years, Magneto, Doom or someone else would have kicked his ass long ago.
Millar forgets that these guys aren't simple criminals. They're super-villains whose plans often involve WORLD DOMINATION. And yet the story only takes place in America and all the villains care about is taking over small chunks of America.
>>
>>90443833
Not as disappointed as people that picked up Age of Ultron because of the movie.
>>
>>90443964
He just took his idea from wanted and transplanted it into Marvel universe, of course it doesn't make sense. Magneto wouldn't be okay with all the X-Men getting killed and a Nazi being in the White House.
>>
>>90443977
Or the people that picked up Civil War because of Civil War.
>>
>>90443964
you guys put Morrison to shame, its an au man and a really simple one, >bad guys rule world now, X-Men are dead
>>
>>90443757
IIRC, he doesn't like how his powers are written most of the time.

I might just be pulling that out of my ass though.
>>
>>90444158
Most AUs have one bad guy or one group of bad guys take over the world, you just accept that they managed to get rid of all competing villains along with the heroes. Old Man Logan didn't do this, instead you have a whole bunch of bad guys with a history of world domination plans that for some reason are satisfied with ruling small chunks of America and make no effort to expand their territory after several decades.
>>
>>90444373
Aren't we all. He seemed to be over him in the 80s if we judge by "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?". I find it really hard to imagine Moore liking something except weird porn, though he probably nitpicks it too and then writes his own.

>>
>>90443757
He likes silver age Superman. He wrote Supreme as a love letter to him.
>>
>>90443757
I'd assume so.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow and For the Man Who Has Everything definitely aren't the kindest stories, but Moore practically begged to write 'the last Pre-Crisis Superman story.'

Also his run on Supreme is supposed to be a big love letter to silver age Superman.
>>
>>90443687
I thought /co/ love it, always figured it was bizarre from what I heard about it.
Or maybe, by then, most of /co/ already knew better than bothering to read millar, but they decided to read it because of the movie and all the Old Logan being pushed after the real one died.

>>

I haven't seen it yet but that seems a logical change especially in the movie-verse they built. Long-term adamantiam poisoning. That's why X-23 can heal faster than he can, because she doesn't have adamantiam bones

Also because she's younger lol. Remember his OG healing factor in The Wolverine

It tries to be both a grim, down to Earth story but also has CUHRAYZE shit like a symbiote dinosaur throughout.

It's tonally inconsistent, essentially. Logan works better because it's more focused on being a character study of Wolverine in his twilight years.
