Emma Watson shouldn't have been cast as Belle in the first place. Emma has a heavy English accent that doesn't sound french in the least. The direction is the worst I've seen for a movie of this budget since, god, I don't even know when. It's so unbelievably amateur and artificial and lifeless and stiff and unnatural and fake and awkward. I can't fathom how Disney let this happen.

Maleficient was okay until the climax of the film where it does a 180 on everything. I thought they were making her into a tragic character, no, they all lived happily ever after.

The ending of the remake pissed me off to no end for exactly that reason. Any adaptation is going to be a little different and have to make changes - it's a different film with a different director with a different vision... but a good adaptation or remake should still have a consistent theme and tone as what it's adapting.

The whole point of Jungle Book is as a coming-of-age story for Mowgli - him struggling to learn where he belongs in the jungle and finally having to accept that he DOES NOT BELONG THERE.

Instead the remake ends with Mowgli living happily ever after in the jungle forever and ever.

It piss me off too. I guess they changed it because some people related it to segregationism and arguably uncle Walt was in favor of it. Nevertheless they maintained the "I wanna be like you" song. I always saw it as a metaphore for growing up and leaving childhood behind. Hell, Mowgli left the talking animals after he got his first boner, like 12 years old kids used to do back then. Nowadays there's a cult to nostalgia and cartoons are consumed mainly for tumblrinas and neckbeards.

You have to look at user reviews to decide which of the three it is without actually watching it.
>>
>>90395133
Their animation department is pretty solid though.
>>
>>90402372
>user reviews
>not being even more trash than RT score

Why don't you just go by imdb score while you're at it?
>>
>>90400276
You have to try pretty hard to make shit if you already have a pretty set script and such. I doubted it would be absolutely amazing blowing everyone's expectations simply because that too is hard as fuck to pull off. I would guess Disney is content with a good-great rating for these. Not like they're lacking other money making ventures, and it sort of refreshes the characters for those odd toys and shit they sell I guess.
>>
>>90394430
On top of that RT doesn't seem very consistent in how it crunches those reviews. I've seen films where there would be two 3/5 rates where the actual reviews would be equally lukewarm on the film, but one review would be listed as fresh and other has rotten.

Whatever algorithm they use to measure those reviews needs some serious tweaking.
>>
>>90402821
You don't go by the AVERAGE score, retard. Try actually READING a review to see if the user is a fuckwit or not. If they seem like an idiot, discard.

At least with user reviews you can be pretty certain they're not getting any jewbucks for what they're writing.

I have a question -- a serious question.
What does Disney have to do to actually have critics rate their film rotten? I mean, if mediocre shit like this can fall in the 70% range, how bad does the house of mouse have to fuck up for their bribery and whatnot to not be enough?
>>
>>90405168
I don't think Disney actually bribes anybody. I think they get by on the fact that most of their movies are competent and functional for the vast majority of critics and audiences. They're not super ambitious but they also don't overreaching either. They pretty much do what they intend to from the start. And there's something to be said for making an entertaining product that achieves its aims with what often comes across as effortless panache.

If Disney were to actually try to do more than just be competent and fell on their ass then they'd get marked down. If they don't achieve even the most basic elements of functionality they also get marked down. See stuff like Alice 2.

I don't care about these movies. I think their live-action section has always been a fucking shambles with very little in the way of hidden gems. I pretty much only like the ones that were overambitious and lacked the execution to pull off that ambition. And I actually do think stuff like the DCEU is graded unfairly (though it still isn't actually great). But I also don't think there's some grand conspiracy to keep critics in Disney's pocket and the RT scores up.
>>
This is some kinda of life karma, where all animated Disney movies are automatically praised by the media while their live action are automatically seen as bad movies (no matter the quality in both cases)

That's not how the story goes. What happened was beast was a dick and refused to let an old woman take shelter for the night. Since things are somewhat safer nowadays you don't understand just how dick a move this is. Wolves come out at night.
Even in WW2 the armies would stop fighting each other at night to team up and fend off the wolves as they were the bigger threat in some places.
It turned out said old lady has magic powers and cursed him for it.
A little tidbit most people don't know is that Beast was 6~10ish years old ( I forgot the exact number) when he did that.

>>
>>90411047
No idea. But letting travellers stay in for the night so that they are not ripped to shreds by wolves is kinda of one of his actual responsibilities that he (or anyone else of his rank/position) would have had.
No idea on his parents but they are probably dead or something. The advisors were ignored because he was a spoiled brat incase you didn't notice by his entire personality for most of the animated film and as he is nobility they wouldn't be allowed to punish or overrule him upon the threat of death.
And yes. the fact that he decided she was creepy got him cursed because in the end leaving another human being to die because you don't think they look pretty enough is an asshole thing to do.
People also take their rules of hospitality VERY seriously.

They tried to get rid of them on their own but there were so many wolves swarming about that both sides agreed to team up together to fight the clearly superior enemy force.
>>90411160
It had nothing to do with safety. He just decided he didn't want an ugly person in his house. The actual safe thing to do would have been to let her sleep in a room and lock his fucking door or let the misc bodyguards he has actually protect him. He's had hundreds of people there to protect him from the frail little old ladies that apparently inspire great terror upon you.
If he had actually let her in he'd probably have gotten some sort of magical blessing/protection instead as usually goes in stories where you offer a random stranger shelter and they secretly have magical powers.
I get that kids are just stupid sometimes, but in the end he still sentence a person to die instead of doing what he was supposed to because she was ugly and//or he didn't want her to track dirt in. You're talking about danger when the person in mortal peril is the one being refused basic and minimal aid. He's honestly kinda lucky that he even had a way out of the curse.
>>
>>90411113
Honest to God, wolves do not actively seek and attack humans unless they're messing with the wolves. Wolves are generally shy with humans.

Gimmick, the CGI was "good" and that's why people saw it similar to Avatar

Nostalgia pandering and YASS QUEEN EMMA WATSON. Her name sells right now and when the sequel is greenlit after this inevitably breaks a billion dollars, it too will bomb because by that point it will be "Emma Who?" and the public will have moved on to the next person in the spotlight.

So bad in fact I'm not even giving you a (you)

Damn, was that painful to watch. It falls under duty to rescue at that point:

First, learn to hide, report and sage. Or even better, ignore.

Then,

There.
That way, you just have to remove the trip, and you won't look like a retarded newfag next time.

Yeah, nah, Emma Watson gets pushed like that but I genuinely don't see it actually catching on with regular people like I do with, say, Beyonce.

Those are american wolves. European wolves are entirely different in behavior. You are confusing the two.
Pre-Paris actually had to fight a miniature war vs a wolf pack that was actively "sneaking" into the city to dine upon human flesh.
>>90413866
It's called not being stupid enough (or having to) to wander out at night, deforestation and generally staying the fuck away from whatever territory they have that remains.

>>90413113
And? Can you blame any girl for taking the chance to become a disney princess?
>>
>>90418952
That sounds more like Dogman behavior.
>>
>>90412034
>Honest to God, wolves do not actively seek and attack humans
It really depend, if they are starving, they might risk to attack humans.

The witch was not intrinsically evil. If she was evil she wouldn't have left Beast becoming a good person as an out for the curse. I say witch because she wa an old lady with magic but she could have been a fairy/fae/god/spirit/etc in disguise.
There just isn't much background given upon her.
Beast got a pop quiz with a single yes/no answer and he flunked it.
>>
>>90419154
>Beast got a pop quiz with a single yes/no answer and he flunked it.
Fays are fucking asshole. You can be sure that if he had actually agreed to give her shelter, she would have then allowed her to have a wish granted and then she would have make sure that wish bite him back in the ass.

Fays are fuckers like that.
>>
>>90419286
Fae are whatever the hell they feel like. It is entirely possible for them to not screw with you. People aren't scared of Fae because they're 100% assholes all the time. The response to seeing one would be set in stone if it was that. They're scared of fae because you have no idea how they're going to act/react since they have an entirely morality and philosophy system.
It's like dealing with random foreigners while on vacation while not knowing the basics of the culture. You have no idea what the hell you might accidentally do/say to piss them off and they have magic.

Their live action remakes are noncoincidentally all material that's in the public domain. It's not about making a profit, it's about preventing another studio from doing so.

Mulan will do better since it's a war film and shit. I don't think Disney had ever done one before, same for live-action Disney.

Ben Kingsley as Jafar incoming then.

But they can't have Iago talk in a live-action remake.
>>
>Gaston bites LaFou's stomach during wrestling matches
He rull gay.
>>
>>90424962
If they had to do a remake and Iago didn't speak, I'd suggest making Iago's speaking and suggestions a projection of Jaffar's already twisted mind, driving him to increasingly malicious behavior. After all, being the court's 'mage' probably meant you had contact with a lot of nasty chemicals that could screw with your head and appearance. They could milk that for a sympathetic backstory if they wanted to put it in there.
