Do people who prefer Velma like her because shes more attainable in a way?
>>
Cause she's hotter.
>>
Not necessarily attainable but they do project a lot on her to justify it. Like pretending she's THICC, as seen in your image.
>>
velma is one of those homely girls that autists on the internet think had crushes on them in high school
>>
>>90381899

I prefer thick girls to gingers.

Still.... it's a tough choice. Case in the toon Velma seems freckled and frumpy dumpy and daphne is hot as fuck. Most Velma cosplays are really curvy tho and daphne ones are meh.
>>
>>90381928
No she isnt
>>
>>90381899
pretty much.

I've seen more bitchy incarnations of Velma than Daphne
>>
>>90381942
I only liked her once I learned she wasn't fat, it was just a thick sweater.

>>90382089
Daphne is so absolutely bland and boring.
>>
Toon Velma is shit compared to Daphne, but pretty much all girls dressed like Velma are way hotter for some reason
>>
Id wouldnt say no to either, I just need to wear a glowing divers suit or a suit of armor or else I cant get into it

>>90381899
I think it's a meme.
It's not so much untainable but a weird reverse psychology.
Daphne is obviously hot to the point she's THE HOT CHICK. Velma is still hot but less transparently so. So people latch onto her as the different unexpected choice despite it being everyone's go to since the fucking 70s.
>>
>>90382189
Bingo
>>
Velma was PROVABLY worst girl in the cartoons
>>
>>90381899
if this is a stealth scooby doo thread, does anyone know where one can find scans of the comics that were around way back when?

There was one that had Cernunnos, a Jewish wedding, and a wax museum and I haven't read it in years
>>
>>90382189
And this is why the patrician choice is Daphne
>>
>>90382189
Velma isn't hot. She's the plain/ugly nerdy brainiac girl.
>>
>>90381899
>attempting to have discussion on /co/.jpg
>>
>>90382397
Part of the thing is people playing sour grapes.
They think that Velma's better because subconsciously they know that Daphne's too good for them
>>
>>90381899
I like Velma more because I don't actually think dumb valley girls are hot
>>
>>90382431
They seem to think that every girl is attractive. Hell, my sister is similar to Velma. Plain, pudgy, dresses dumpy. Not ugly, but not pretty. No guy has ever asked her on a date. She dropped out of university, now she just sits at home and plays video games. Never has had sex.
>>
>>90382446
Daphne canon wasn't a dumb valley girl.

>>
>>90382482
She has been depicted hot or cute in most places.
Not model hot, but normal girl hot.
>>
>>90381899

I prefer Velma because she's more of a tomboy. Her charms are more natural. I've never liked conventional media ideals of beauty, and find overt sexualization and heavy makeup to be turn offs. Attainability doesn't really factor into it. If anything, Daphne seems like the type who'd put out more easily.

Being more well-read is a bonus.
>>
>>90382534
Are you talking about in the movies? I'll give you that. The original cartoon? I don't see anyone masturbating to this.
>>
>>90382562
The movie and the hundred different Scooby-Doo spin offs that aren't the original.
>>
>>90382588
I guess I just see Velma as the original cartoon. Haven't watched much since that.

Some nice fan art though.
>>
>>90381899
Name of the lady on the left?
>>
>>90382616
Though she has been an anti status quo for a long time I think the recent proliferation of Velma is due to this and other newer cartoons.
>>
>>90381899

/co/ likes her because of all the THICC cheesecake fan art. There's nothing special about her on model
>>

Good thing Daphne is nothing like this
>>
>>90382699
Velma
>>
>>90382787

All things being relative. Daphne is a conventional beauty, which to me just means "nondescript."
>>

not to piss on your potato, but some of us like girls like that.

>>
>>90382868

>>
>>90381899
I prefer Velma because she's cuter than Daphne.
>>
I like Velma more because short brown hair glasses and somehow her outfit in all bright orange is more appealing to me than Daphnes purple outfit.

Also the whole Velma is slightly thicker than Daphne but i don't want to get into the debate about it.
>>
>>90383094
Are you implying she wanted to be Shagged?
>>
>>90383173
He doesn't have to imply. Velma desperately wanted the Rodger rod in that series. And she would've gotten it too if it weren't for that meddling dog.
>>
>>90382482
Hit her up, bro.
>>
>>90383173
As if she's the only one.
>>
>>90383116

Why, are you here to defend your waifu's honor? Relax. People can have different tastes.
>>
>>90383271
Nah I just hear people say shit like that a lot without even really knowing what they're talking about. Also you come off as pretentious.

So define it for me, please.
>>
>>90383305
I can do that for him. Conventional beauty is a set of physical traits that fit into common convention.
>>
>>90381899

Movie Velma is always best girl, but cartoon Daphne is best when animated.
>>
Scooby Doo has been around enough time that that the original "obvious" choice was pushed aside for so long that it's become the new counter-culture. I guarantee Daphne fans are pretty scarce nowadays despite many people considering Velma the "alternative".

Coincidentally, looking at her in the light of not being the popular pick anymore, Daphne is honestly superior, if you're going for the "who'd you rather date" route. To be fair, there's been media like Mystery Incorporated and Be Cool that flesh out Daphne a lot more than before, when she was the most bland member of the team in the original, but those shows did the same for other characters too so it's hardly a huge relative boon for one side or the other.

So basically, I'd say Daphne.
>>
>>90383305

Why don't you first explain Daphne's role as the "hot one"? Because perhaps she fits the populist definition of beauty? Is that not convention?

We're comparing cartoon girls here. No one's being pretentious except you.

>>
daphne is better.
She is more attractive and has a pretty cool personality. She is adventurous, fashionable, sporty, and just generally fun.

Velma is just ugly and annoying.
>>
>>90383327
I meant something along the lines of "define the traits of conventional beauty".

>>90383445
I don't care about Daphne. Please stop dodging it and define "conventional beauty" and its traits in the modern day for me. I also don't see how Daphne fits the "populist definition of beauty", mostly because I don't know what that definition is and partly because she is a cartoon, and possess no physical traits other than some colors, lines, and dots.

Anyway, please define "conventional beauty" and its traits for me, as well as how Daphne fits the "populist definition of beauty". And also what the "populist definition of beauty" is.

I'm asking because I don't know, and I have a feeling you don't either.
>>
>>90383608

Hour glass figure, feminine mannerism and interests, sharp features and makeup. She may be a cartoon, but cartoons have a way of amplifying these traits.

She's clearly made to be the pretty one, someone who wouldn't be out of place in a 70s magazine of beautiful women. There is no debate here. The entire thread is based on OP supposition that people like Velma because she seems more attainable. If this is still outside your comprehension or simply can't accept the premise of the thread, maybe you shouldn't stay in here or question the OP instead.
>>
>>90382833
Don't do this to me. I need a name.

>>90381899

>Hour glass figure, feminine mannerism and interests, sharp features and makeup
These are just attractive features. Very vague. And aside from the make-up, very natural.

Being a tomboy could also be considered something of a "populist definition of beauty", as it is also a popular female archetype, even though that's something of a moot point because Velma isn't one.

But whatever. You gave it a shot, I guess. Your logic and use of ridiculous labels doesn't make sense to me, but you tried.
>>
>>90383768
Couldn't find a name. Just google "Velma deviant cosplay".

On a side note, when I image searched OP's image, the result I got was "fat".
>>
>>90383910
>Very vague.

Yes, hence "nondescript." From a design standpoint, there's no feature that jumps out. She's just vaguely attractive, like many vaguely attractive women in real life who are just as forgettable.

>Being a tomboy could also be considered something of a "populist definition of beauty"

That's why it's relative.

>doesn't make sense to me

Now who's being pompous? No one needs to justify their taste to you, and the world doesn't hang on your ability to understand it. It's just something for you to accept and move on.
>>
>>90382397
Being Hanna Barbara characters her and Daphne are roughly the same character template with minor adjustments. A lot of guys aren't really that turned off by short girls with freckles glasses and bob cuts
>>
>>90384095
>From a design standpoint, there's no feature that jumps out
Same thing could be said about Velma, just change it to "vaguely tomboyish".

>Now who's being pompous?
No one? I didn't refute your logic. If I did, I would have said "Your logic doesn't make sense". What I said was "Your logic [...] doesn't make sense TO ME", the implication being that I accept that I don't understand and that my lack of understanding is more on me than it is you.
>>
>>90382562
You fucking kidding me? It's right there in the picture...she's clearly got tits, a waistline instead of a gut so you knew she's not a Hutt, and she's wearing a miniskirt...is she wearing underwear?

That is a lot to work with for an adolescent boy back when the Internet was decades away from being a thing.
>>
I'd fuck Fred
>>
>>90381899
Daphne was a generic vacuous female

Velma was less so in comparison

So Velma
>>
>>90384245

>Same thing could be said about Velma

Then you go ahead and say it if you want. I assure you I won't feel the need to question you over it or call you pretentious out of insecurity.

>my lack of understanding is more on me than it is you

Then don't be a smug little dick about it, and you know you were. There's nothing ridiculous about saying Daphne is "conventionally" pretty since that's the entire premise of her character. There's nothing ridiculous about that word either, unless your vocabulary is exceedingly small.

Sorry if I came off as smug, because I didn't mean to. I genuinely meant it when I said you at least tried to define it, because a lot of people don't, opting to deflect over and over again, like you did the first couple of times.

And I don't call the terms "ridiculous" because my vocabulary is small. I call them ridiculously because I prefer to say things in simpler ways, and people usually throw around terms like "conventional beauty" and "populist definitions" just to sound smart, while having no idea what they actually mean and when they could have just used simpler language to achieve the same effect in a much more straightforward way.
>>
>>90384594

>opting to deflect over and over again, like you did the first couple of times.

I answered you directly. It's a matter of taste. It doesn't require more than that.

You're the one who went off on a tangent and decided to debate, not even the merits of Daphne's assumed role, but whether I knew what I was saying.

>because I prefer to say things in simpler ways

Being concise *is* being simple. I wrote what I did with the expectation that I wouldn't have to type up a bunch of exposition, which I ended up doing anyway because you think someone was trying to sound smart online. Jesus Christ, man. Try having a normal conversation with a little bit of respect for other people.

lots of people just live to be contrarian so they pick the frumpy chick over the hot chick by default

lots of people do just pick velma because they're pathetic losers that think she's more attainable, despite the fact that they're both drawings

lots of people think she's fat for some reason and they're just fat fetishists

Didn't one of the series establish that all the Ancient Aliens theories are correct, all pagan gods are analogous with the aliens forging humanity's history, and that Scooby Doo is literally a descendant of one of these aliens?
>>
I'd pick neither of them. Velma looks like my type visually because I'm actually into frumpy plain jane nerds and have been since I was a little kid. But Velma has always been portrayed as kind of a killjoy. Daphne's nicer and much friendlier and she'd probably be cool to hang out with. But she's sorta super needy and I've never found her design all that attractive.

I'm also not that interested in having sex with anyone and they're both way too thirsty for a person like me to be able to satisfy them.

The real problem with Daphne and the reason people gravitate more towards Velma is because when you really get down to it, Daphne isn't anything special to look at. She's the definition of the conventional beauty, which is not really a bad thing, but it makes it hard for her to stand out among the literally hundreds of other female characters with the exact same physique. Velma has a slightly more original look that gives the illusion of being thicker, plus she also has the nerd girl thing going on which is another kink entirely.
