Anyone have actually funny Garfield comic strips?
>>90376392
She got a FAT ass god damn
>>90376608
Me too!
>>90375554
The strips up until mid-late 90s are actually pretty funny.

Why did Liz keep Dog Semen in a coffee mug?
I made this ages ago in a garfield gen thread.
>>90378691
Sauce pls
>>90376994
I still maintain that the first 5 years of Garfield were actually decent.
>>90381048
You mean back when Jon was a cartoonist and not unemployed.
>>90380931
If you look close, it didn't actually have a handle. Still doesn't explain why she had it right in the room while checking on Garfield.
>>90379969
Jim Davis employs like fifteen people just to crap out the strip
>>90381163
She was going to insert it into herself after they left.
>>90375554
The funniest ones are Heathcliff
>>90375554
This one.
>>90381482
kinda curious what the original is now
>>90381255
You take that back you son of a bitch
Garfield Minus Garfield is seriously amazing. Like it feels like it would work as an honest anti-climatic study of a shitty depressing life but it hits the right amount of absurdity and broken rhythm only because it's cropped from a real comic strip.
>>90381826
>an honest anti-climatic study of a shitty depressing life
That part of it reminds me of some of the more grounded moments from Jimmy Corrigan

Some of these garfield without garfield strips hit way too close to home.
Does anybody have the strip where Jon walks past Garfield with his head lodged inside a chicken and says "Dinner will be a bit late"?
That was probably the hardest I ever laughed at a Garfield strip, but I can never find it.
>>90382749
yep, right here

>>90383071

>>90383149
Oh geez, he finally snapped. Maybe now he'll get the help he needs.
>>90381282
So is Jon also a telepath who knows what Garfield and the other animals are saying? This always confused me.
>>90380899
That is one of the most effective beat panels I've ever seen, and the fact that it's an edit makes it sadder some how. This is John's life without Garfield. There's no punchline, just silent anguish.
>>90380931
>>90383228
The idea is that he's lived with Garfield by himself with nobody else to relate to for so long that he just knows what the cat is thinking
The whole "We're finishing each other's sentences!" thing but even sadder
>>90383469
this is my favourite
>>90381520
It's such a cruel twist of irony that Garfield Minus Garfield manages to be infinitely more relatable and more entertaining that regular Garfield strips.
I would genuinely read a comic book that revolved around the chronicles of a depressed loner who has nothing tethering him to this world but his own, self-destructive thoughts.

>>90383273
I like the silent garfield ones a good deal as well. Cause Jon owns a cat, he's a sad lonely single pet owner. His cat just sits there, as a cat would.
>>90383944
>she was flirting with you but you were too autistic to realise until she lost interest
>>90383900
Is John actually a f to m transsexual who hasn't undergone surgery yet?
>>90380120
Same.

i always lose it at the part where he's driving
>>90384032
Well apparently not.
>>90375554
Why is Liz with this man, again?
Is it to feel better about herself?
>>90384192
Maybe she's one of those girls who is instinctively attracted to pathetic manchildren because of an overactive maternal instinct which mingles with their self-destructive belief that the manchild in question can be improved.

>>90382010
my favorite
>minus Garfield
>not the one's where he's drawn as a regular cat
That small change is what makes it sad. He's literally just talking to a cat that just sits there and stares at him
>>90384192
He has a big house for a cartoonist. He's also willing to do basically anything she asks and probably showers her with affection. I'm pretty sure they also establish that she's likewise a lonely person detached from others and just works all the time.
>>90381826
it works because the structure of comedy is misery plus punchline
picture spongebob minus spongebob and now squidward is a lonely minimum wage employee that barely talks to anyone and hates his life

>>90378655
>>90378655

>>90376392
that's actually fucked up
how did this make it to print
>>90384192
What's funny is if you go back and read the older garfield strips from the 90's; Jon would actually do pretty well in the modern dating world. He has no problems with expressing himself, and his worst flaws were that he was an awkward dork. Which is no longer the worst thing someone can be (that being a lonely neet who doesn't interact with someone at all). His attempts to be expressive are actual attempts.
That's part of why he started to seem sadder and sadder as time went on. Everyone's standard of what the worst a man could be changed and he started to fall into a category of men that some people would seriously consider because of his eagerness to try.
>>90393299
thank god.
>>90393526
It's one of the first strips and is just as bland and boring as a lot of modern strips. It's the antithesis of the "Well it was good at one time" arguments.
>>90393709
But it doesn't really answer that argument, though, does it? Even a good strip is bound to have a clunker now and then. It's just the nature of trying to write five to seven good jokes a week, every week, for years on end.
And a bad strip when a guy is just starting out is even more understandable.
>>90380985
>falling in love with the girl in your dream and waking up to only realize that she was a figment of your imagination but then you realize that you're capable of providing yourself a level of romantic satisfaction unparalleled by real women so you spend all your time generating a tulpa that takes on a mind of it's own before it's posessed by an egregore that slowly tries to take over and ruin your life but it's ok because you're still better off than having a girlfriend.

I don't need some maudlin We Remember shit from a cartoon about a fat cat that eats lasagna, that's idiotic.

oh fuck my sides
We need more edits
>>90383071
Holy shit, is there any story as to how the fuck this happened?
>>90406862
I want to bet the crew just put it in because they needed to escape the stress of working on a garfield film
>>90390117
Oh christ, that took me a second to realize why he had a condom.
>>90402861
Based Jim. Any 9/11 tribute in a comic or cartoon is cringy as fuck.
>>90407670could you explain it to my friend
>>90390428
>>90402297
ALL OF THE DAY BRO
>>90407886
Essentially, if Garfield were to eat that lasagna, it would cause the weight at the top to fall and presumably kill him, while also silmulataneously rip the hooks through Jon's nipples in a sexual masochistic act. I'm then guessing that he would then proceed to use the condom to rape Garfield's dead body.
>>90402861
>>90407870
>Surely Jim Davis knows about the 9/11 attacks. I mean, that’s not the sort of thing you just happen to not be aware of. Here he is, year after year, marking “9-11” on each strip without any thought other than “here’s another one for the shitpile.”
