>>

I don't think the voices sound off, I think it just sounds like the kid characters are yelling in weird moments, with the scenes not matching at all.

It's because you're used to the old voices. The guy doing Scrooge seems to be reaching at points, though. Launchpad's voice was just bad.

It's a mix of missing the old voices and the new voices feeling mismatched. The kids don't sound like kids.

The nephews need to yell less. But other than that, it's fine. The animation looks okay and the backgrounds look pretty good. Consider me cautiously hyped.

I'm gonna need to hear the full theme song to decide whether it's good or bad. It sounds much less energetic than the old one.

It's been something I've really liked, not picturing whoever's doing the voice(except for Patrick Warburton).
>>
>>90363783
>It's because you're used to the old voices.
For me, it's not even that. Scrooge sounds fine. But the triplets sound too old. Couldn't they have used women to voice the triplets? Not even the Quack Pack voices sounded this old, and they were actually older in that.
>>
>>90363741
I rewatched DuckTales last year, having no recollection of how it was like before then.

I'd rather go read the comics for the thousandth time.
>>
The backgrounds look really good, and Scrooge's voice was a lot better than I thought it would be. Plus the jokes were pretty good.

My only issue is with the triplets' voice (which will probably stop bugging me after watching the show for a while), and how simple the characters look in comparison to the backgrounds.
>>
>>90363231
Im extremely disappointed with Scrooge's voice, it's lacking in presence.
>>
>>90363857
Probably. Still, I feel like the yelling highlights the whole "these kids are clearly voiced by adult actors" issue. At a normal volume, they sound perfectly passable.
>>
Voices will take some getting used to outside of Tennant, but it looks promising nonetheless. LOVE the shading style they're using.Overall style reminds me of Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.

Same for me, Scrooge and Launchpad sound fine, but the kids do not at all sounds like kids. It might work if they were older teens like Quack Pack or something, but they look to be 10-12 at best here but sounds mid 20's.

You think they could at least raise the pitch of their voices after recording or something.

>It's more like the triplets have only ever had one voice in their entire existence and now they are giving them actual voice actors
Yes so... Why change it? Donald doesn't need "a real voice actor". Mickey doesn't need to stop having a falsetto voice so he can "properly emote". It doesn't seem to make sense unless they think the original voices were incapable of having proper comedic tones for their witty writing. Like, the team sat there and thought, "But we can't have Louie be sarcastic if he's doing the duck voice all the time!".

I was extremely hyped for this and I still am, but this trailer diminished that hype somewhat.

The animation is choppy. If people from gravity falls really are involved here, they could have gone a bit more fluid.

It'll be serviceable but I would've killed my only brother to see them do Carl Barks, Don Rosa or even that weird Italian cape Donald.

But judging by the trailer, they do seem to be taking elements from Barks and Rosa. That whole premise about Donald and the kids visiting an old cranky multi-billionaire has-been who ends up rediscovering his joy for adventure is right from Rosa. Scrooge in the trailer quotes that famous Barks line about being "tougher than the toughies and smarter than the smarties", and there are Barks paintings in his manor.

The trailer seems nice enough, and I'm feeling optimistic for the show.
>>
So they aren't making the nephews sound like they traditionally sound? Like mini-donalds? Whatever, Scrooge of course will take some getting use to, but it sounds pretty decent. Too little of Launchpad to judge, but he sounds different, but that moment was funny.

Nobody ever claimed that the original Ducktales show was supposed to have any Rosa influences. Rosa didn't start drawing "Life and Times" until after Ducktales had already finished airing.

The old show did have significant Barks influences, though. The entire character of Scrooge is a Barks creation, and so were Gyro, Magica, Beagle Boys, Glomgold, Duckburg, the Money Bin, and so on. The show added a bunch of its own unique OCs that made their setting distinct from the comics, but the basics were from Barks.

Because if you take a step back, that's like 95% of Barks and Rosa's canon. I want to see Mayan ruins and Dharmic deities, digging around in Instanbul to discover the secret library of alexandria.

>>90365888
>Why does /co/ hate villain of the week?

Because it's literally all we had from the 70's to the mid 90's, and even then serialization was uncommon. And that's all due to the American system of syndication requiring that episodes be able to be shown out of order.

It's taken a dramatic shift in the way media is consumed (DVD boxsets helped, DVR and streaming-on-demand did too) to pry studios away from their old way of doing things. And it's taken a generation of people who were raised on the beginnings of serial cartoons in the U.S. (as well as anime) to push the envelope and demand some connections between episodes.
>>
>>90365895
Because they don't have to animate the background (most of the time).

Also, love that he's wearing the black shirt from the comics rather than the blue one he's usually got in cartoons.
>>
>>90366076
It's because they want to be able to air the episodes in whatever order they want to fit in whatever schedule the executives need. And animation quality doesn't necessarily have anything to do with time, especially in the 80's and 90's, when studios farmed out to multiple animators in Asia. Sometimes even one episode would have multiple animation studios working on parts of it.

Remember, man, entertainment is an industry and a business, and the executives want to make as much money as possible. Having a show you can put in any order means you can sell syndication rights easier.

Pretty much what I expected. You can't have really believed the voices would be exactly like the originals beyond maybe Donald, right? I will say David's Scrooge voice will take some getting used to, but at least it sounds more genuine than most people who try to do a Scottish/Irish accent when they have zero fucking relation. The boys and Webby do sound older than they should, but it's kind of refreshing given how grating their original voices could be for some people (especially Webby who was largely obnoxiously cute and girly).

Donald's mailbox is at the docks. Usually he's portrayed living in some kind of suburban neighborhood, and in the original Ducktales he joined the navy and went sailing, but this time it kinda looks like he's actually living on a boat. I guess it might be inspired by his very first appearance in "The Wise Little Hen" short? In that cartoon his home was on a boat and he had some reason to wear his sailor suit, but that suit's been an odd relic in nearly all his other appearances since then.
>>

Donald's always been pretty close to Scrooge levels of greed, just not as badass as his Uncle or crafty enough to hold on to it.

Nah, the way the trailer goes, the setup seems to be the same one as Life and Tales- Scrooge's been isolated for years. No adventuring for him, meaning none for Donald either.

Donald's lived on that houseboat in other things since Wise Little Hen—for instance in House of Mouse, and in the new Mickey shorts as well. There's just enough fandom for it that it never entirely goes away.

That particular story anon posted a page from was Donald and Mickey going to an island to catch Phantom Blot (or some other reason), who had been doing experiments that made things on the island grow in size.

The story you're thinking of had Scrooge and Donald at the moneybin and then some nerd comes up and shows his research on spiders. Scrooge dismisses him but the nerd leaves his miniature maze, and then through shenanigans Scrooge and Donald get shrunk down in size, the spiders help 'em out, and two two ducks become spider lovers.

>>
>>90368171

That's a very recent thing.

They were EXTREMELY strict on how their characters were allowed to be portrayed up to around the time Kingdom Hearts came out and the rules were loosened slightly.

Don Rosa himself had to fight with Disney's regulations all the time - he always wanted to have Donald meet his parents again for example (and for Scrooge to reconcile with them), but the most he was allowed to was to bring back Scrooge's other sister. And the nephews' parents are FAR off limit to even be mentioned.

That wasn't due to Disney, though- his butting heads with Disney is down to rights over his work, his butting heads creatively was with editorials, though. Same as any Egmont writer nowadays who wants to use, say, Ludwig von Drake- Egmont has a policy forbidding that because "we got Gyro already".

I dare say this might be...good?
>>
>>90368682

It still comes down to Disney in the end. It's their policies seeping down to the editor level.

I mentioned Kingdom Hearts - when the first game came out, Mickey was still not allowed to be presented as anything other than a mascot. He couldn't have a speaking role, or be shown with different clothes than usual, or even be shown from a 3-dimensional angle. Square kept insisting on being allowed their own take on the characters though, and by the time the sequel came out Mickey was a regular character in the game with zipper outfit and everything. That opened the floodgates to a bunch of other alternative portrayals, such as Epic Mickey and eventually the new Youtube shorts.

The point is she's a fan, so she's obviously going to have that gimmick around them, throughout the first episode whatever happens she'll probably be taking notes about how they react to things, or something of the sort. She wil still be a "fan" type throughout.

By season 2 I'm expecting them to try to expand on their stuff and it'll be one of the things that get dropped, if not just slightly. It'd be treated like progression in the sense that they become more family then "special relatives and fan".

Even if it was just the premiere, which I doubt it will be, it still showed she has that side to her and it'll be a very reoccurring thing, she's just too grating, for some reason it's hard to have a female character not be quirky or very-excited and annoying, instead of just relaxed and going with the story or what-not (can't explain what I mean, I just mean not so vocal) but that's not my main point, I just don't like the personality.

If they want to be faithful to the original, then standard episode length.

I could see it being a mix, though. Like some episodes will be full length, while others will just be short 10-11 minute bits that allow them to do at least two per "episode" block. Maybe even some that are shorter and thus allow them to put three of the things into an episode or be aired between other shows when they feel like it.

Probably depends on the comics. In the italian comics she has a Granddaughter and she's sent to live with Scrooge (take from that what one will)

and she ends up working at the Newspaper of Gideon McDuck Scrooge's younger brother in Duckburg.

Be nice to see some of that extended comic family.

Original Polish Scrooge was pretty decent too.
IIRC back in the day Disney cared about voices in their animated things sounding close to each other (or at least good) in all languages. Not sure if this is still the case, but I remember the villain from Kim Possible sounding like John DiMaggio suddenly learned Polish.

Like I said, at least give him a heads up that people are gonna be bombarding him with questions about it. The show people could have stated explicitly that while they love his work and are incorporating it in the show, they are not in any contact with him. How would you feel if the first time you heard about your work being used again (and again, not seeing a penny of the millions of dollars his work has generated over the years) was through fans and not disney, not to mention its annoying as fuck when everyone keeps assuming you are involved with this.
statement from dons official facebook account admin:

>No, I don't know if aspects of the "DuckTales" teaser trailer are taken from Don's stories (even though it does seem so). In any case, even if they were, Don wouldn't know anything about it. Disney can do whatever they want with the material, without asking or consulting with Don. It's their legal property. So I don't think it's necessary to ask for his opinion about it. 8) How would you feel if you never received any royalties for your million-selling books (while everyone thinks you must be a millionaire) and now a major tv show freely takes elements from them without you having any knowledge of whether it'll at least actually represent what you had in mind? ;) (That's a rhetorical question.)

It just makes me sad is all. I think this could have been handled much better but the truth is disney doesnt give a fuck

Scrooge was 80 years old when he first met the nephews in 1947, and died at 100 in 1967.

All of Don Rosa's stories actually take place in that time period, no modern technology is seen other than the retro sci-fi stuff Gyro makes.
