Why does it feel Ruth hasn't changed and is just acting meek to get pity points from everyone around her?

Is it the bad writing by Willis? yes
>>
>>90354742
That's what abusers do, anon; they manipulate others into believing they're the ones at fault.
>>
>>90354817
A shame Willis doesn't have the balls to depict an abusive relationship like that with Billie and Ruth. That would actually be interesting.
>>
>>90355035
Sad thing is that for a while he was portraying their relationship as negative and destructive.

This is a 50 Shades kind of relationship where it's unhealthy as fuck to the point that splitting up the lovers is a GOOD thing, but for some reason we're led to believe that love is literal, physical pain and they only hurt each other because they love each other.
>>
>>90355506
>I don't want to die on repeat
This was so forced it fucking hurt. Like, this didn't feel like it was earned. Ruth drank herself to sleep. She never attempted suicide, just wallowed in darkness.
>>
>>90355722
I'm pretty sure somebody in these threads came up with a way to use this scene as a segue into exploring the abusiveness of Ruth and Billie's relationship, since this is the kind of action that an abusive partner might take.

I'll see if I can't find it.

In tonight's dull drawing, we get to see the worst hair Willis has ever managed to draw again, and then another obligatory last panel "joke".

But seriously, I can't believe he's sticking with that amorphous brown blob on her head, and not even attempting to make it look more like dark roots growing in.
>>
>>90355962
>You're being let go due to your sexual relationship with me. Let us commemorate your release as our RA by reenacting what happened.

There's really not much to say, since there's not much actually happening. Willis should take from Hemingway that dialogue (or, in this case, individual comic strips) should either advance the plot or develop a character.

Also, the password is "future". Cue your Squidward pictures.
>>
>>90355962

Willis is making Puddin'-Head use ambiguous phrasing to cover up the Big Reveal that Ruth isn't getting fired after all. Calling it now.
>>
>>90356124
Nah, he's probably just dragging things out for the fuck of it. Writer's block, maybe.
I predict tomorrow that we zoompa-zoom-zoom over to Leslie's house as she tries to escape.
>>
>>90355962
>Not one comment from your boss about our *almost-PDA*
I wonder if it'll be revealed that their relationship doesn't break any actual rules, or if Willis will go with his IU rule head canon.

God, Chloe's face is weird. The mouth is crammed right under the nose and off center.

If she ends up bringing down all the potential RA replacements to witness Ruth getting fired that'll be really weird.
>>

The funny thing is that we SAW Mary in the hall. Prominently displayed, as though we were to assume she might have something to say. But apparently she ditched the scene alongside everybody else.

She is my smiling angel.

Congratulations! You and everyone else bullied a girl into not filing proper complaints about broken rules and a neglectful RA.

>>
>>90355722
Well, you'd be surprised how much wanting to say that comes across the mind of a depressed person. Unfortunately Willis hasn't done a strong job of emphasising WHY we should give a fuck considering her horrible nature towards everyone.
>>
>>90356202
>If she ends up bringing down all the potential RA replacements to witness Ruth getting fired that'll be really weird.
To me it looks like Ruth is being brought in to brief or help select the next RA, but that is too stupid to actually happen, right?
>>
>>90356540
I wouldn't put anything past this comic.

Ideally, Ruth goes down, Chloe, a higher up (?), and maybe the therapist working with Ruth are there, and they talk about the feasibility of her continuing, her failings in the role, and decide whether or not she can continue.

Then, in a sane world, Chloe would fire her.

So I predict she'll leave it up to Ruth to choose, and she'll decide to quit.

This shit reads like Ruth swallowed a bottle or two of painkillers, but she only stayed in bed and missed a few meals over the weekend. Willis had to have lost his nerve at some point, whether in the plotting stage or later, to make this arc completely toothless.

Considering all the other characters in Willis' porn have literal carpet matching the drapes hair styles, I have to wonder what the fuck her bush looks like.

Also wondering, does not a single girl in DoA shave? I mean, not even the super slutty ones?
>>
>>90363159
No, Anon, because every single woman loves their natural hair and we need to Normalize the act of non-shaving by having every woman not shave in a webcomic because blah blah end goal feminism or something.
>>
>>90363159
Technically two characters.

Becky, obviously, shaves half her cooch, but keeps the other half long.

And shockingly, Asma, the Muslim in the Hijab shaves clean. You just can't tell she is bald because of the head wrap.

You cannot prove me wrong.
>>
>>90363159
>>90363229

More realistically, they live in a dorm with communal showers and shared sinks. They're not going to shave their pubes due to inconvenience.

Sierra probably shaves. Mary too, because it's just like in her Japanese cartoons.
>>
>>90363349
Given what we have seen, nudity wise, only the men from their private bits (Jason's bowtie pubes are the only example of not direct copying of head hair style to genital hair style)

Does this make it more or less likely that Carla shaves her pubes into a rollerskates shape?
>>
>>90363456
They're shaved to look like Carla's face. That way when she's making you suck her cock there is no escape from looking at her smug self-righteousness.
>>
>>90363613
I can actually see her doing that.

So, you know, fuck you anon for making me picture it.
>>
>>90363794
She's also got her face tattooed on her taint in case of 69'ing.
>>
>>90363925
And her face laughing as a tramp stamp for when she makes you eat her butt hole
>>
>>90363159
Sal and Mary appeared to have shaved for their pinups.

It would also be really dangerous for Puddinghead to dye hair down there. You're not even supposed to do it on your eyebrows, much less near your vulva. If her carpet matches her drapes, she should be in the hospital.

>>90363349
What? You shave them in the shower. The only inconvenience is that it's kinda dark in the showers, so you may miss a few spots. If you maintain that area, it takes less than 5 minutes to go weed-whacking.

>>90363456
Walky's pubes look like his hair, remember? So do Ethan's and Mike's. Can't remember if Danny's do.

>>90355768
Probably not what you were looking for, but here's something related.
>>
>>90364323
Obviously you shave them in the shower, but shaving them in a standing shower stall, which probably is only separated from the others by a fixed curtain, is inconvenient and considering that most people will have similar schedules they probably won't be able to take up a shower stall for long enough without people getting pissy. The shared sinks also mean that they'd be hogging their adjoining half-bath. Most of the women I was friends with in the dorm Nair'd or waxed their legs and only a few of them shaved their pubes.

Also they make lighteners and dyes specifically for pubes now.
>>
>>90364935
Most people don't have a half-bath. A general dorm set-up has like 40 people on a floor, with two full-service bathrooms. Mine had 2-3 bathroom stalls and 3-5 showers, with 4 sinks.

Looks to me like the DoA people have their own toilets, but not their own shower. That seems extremely unlikely. You either have your own full bathroom for 4 people, or you share with the rest of the floor. I know Willis isn't a girl or anything, but surely it's not that difficult to find these things out.

Like I said, it only takes a few minutes to shave down there. I did it all the time with hardly any issues. I shave my pubes in the shower all the time. It is not hard, except when you don't have enough light.

My dorm had a shower curtain and then an actual bathroom stall door.

And if anyone's shaving their pubes in the sink, I would be VERY concerned, haha.
>>
>>90364323
>Sal and Mary appeared to have shaved for their pinups.

Sal isn't in a pin up in the Google doc, so post a link, she wasn't shaved when she fucked for grades.

Mary is debatable, based on the angle I would expect to see some pubic hair, but it may be obscured by her arm. If she is shaved, I approve.
>>
>>90365131
Read Hall, where this is set, actually does have connecting half-baths with communal showers.

According to my experiences in living in a dorm, each room had a sink but toilets and showers were communal. Showers were separated by immobile curtains. My gf shaved in the sink in her room when her roommate was in class because it was annoying to try to shave standing up in the stall without anything to grab for support.

I pay indie porn artists so that they continue producing porn that I like. Slipshine is garbage with no standards and the faggot SJW that runs it thinks pretty much all of my fetishes should be illegal, so it does not qualify.
>>
>>90369766

It's funny, because /co/ tells me that when a web comic artists starts doing porn/nsfw artwork of their characters that's when they are getting desperate for money. Like scrapping the bottom of the barrel to get money from people, which is odd cause Willis (I think) isn't fucking poor as he's making mad cash on Patreon. Then again, he's probably only making them because Slipstream keeps paying them money for his shit porn.
>>
>>90370132
I think what happened is that Slipshine commissioned Willis for a comic, then kept bringing him back when they noticed the boost in one-month subscriptions.

That's also why I think Willis is doing weekly pin-ups, as it keeps up subscriber retention. Otherwise, people just drop $25 and leave with a free comic.

Maybe we should ask /d/ for a helping hand with all this crappy porn.
>>
>>90370354
Honestly, Willis is probably singlehandedly keeping that site afloat. Like it boggles my mind to think it generates a profit somehow.
>>
>>90370354
I think /aco/ or even /r/ would be a bit more appropriate. Though an anon recently said he was warned or temp banned for posting Willis's porn from behind the Slipshine paywall on /aco/

Willis isn't exactly known for his futa, inflation, or shitting dick nipple porn so I don't think /d/ would really care.

>>
>>90370503
I wouldn't be surprised if he's been spoken about by the Slipshine folks with seriousness.

Hell, the last time we posted Willis to /aco/ they pulled a DMCA on our posts.

>>90370526

Sad Panda is long-running (34 seasons over 41 years) Chinese cartoon about a morose panda. It's mostly just formulaic Communist Party propaganda except for few episodes produced immediately after Tienanmen Square that are subtly critical of the Party.

>>
>>90374612
Season 10 is just a rehash of season 2 with more episodes, plus the "hard truths" is just bullshit Maoist self criticism. I'd say season 19 is probably the peak animation-wise and, I know this is an unpopular opinion, seasons 22-24 have the best writing.

Season 19 was the first season they broke out of the Hanna Barbara-esque limited animation style they had been using since the early 80s. While not exactly quality animation, in as much as Sad Panda never really had what could be called good animation, it tried new things and saw some experimentation going on even if it settled into easily animated mediocrity halfway through the season.

>>90378713
Wait, if Carla is trans and according to fundies transwomen are mentally ill men, does that mean we can have Joyce hook up with Carla?
>>
>>90378927
>implying you have to be a fundie to be against trans shit
>>
>>90380167
No, I'm implying that Joyce, and Mary, would view a relationship with Carla as heterosexual.

In tonight's Becky banter, Becky gets super Becky when Becky shows up!

HEY GUYS, TOOK ME A MONTH, BUT I FOUND BECKY!
>>
>>90381217
is joyce actually distressed right now, or is she doing a fucking bit because that is not a sentence that a person would use.
>>
>>90381217
Does this mean Becky will finally fuck off and be homeless?
>>
What is this "pudding" meme that has evolved in the comments section? Let's break it down and/or overanalyze it and then make fun of them for using it
>>
>>90381217
See, this WOULD be a way to begin a storyline, but Willis just HAD to make a joke out of it. It could easily have been Chloe be behind the group while walking and overhearing their conversation.

Wait, why IS Chloe walking that direction, anyways? Assuming that Joyce et al. are heading to the elevator to go to class, is she heading to the other end of the dorm wing?

Also, I have a feeling this ends in Chloe just assuming that Becky is attending a class that she's not actually enrolled in, at least with the language choices like that. It isn't as if Becky outright said she's not even an actual student.

>>90381259
Sadly, Becky and her cockroach-infested hair will be with us forever.

>>90381297
Look at Chloe's hair in panel four of >>90381217. Willis thinks he's drawing dyed hair with roots that are showing, but thanks to his bad coloring it just looks like somebody dropped pudding and/or poop on her head.
>>
>>90381297
The RM's hair looks like someone took a shit on it, but Willis's fans call it pudding in his comments to be 'nice'. I'm honestly surprised they dare to mock his art at all.
>>
>>90381217
>>90381330
Also, the password is, as expected, "plaidsies".

>>90381258
It's a silly kind of distress.
Sort of like having a funny kind of aneurysm.
>>
>>90381330
There's nothing that actually flags Becky as not belonging in the dorm based on what Puddin' Head could hear. Ruth didn't even know Becky was squatting in the dorm until five days ago.
>>
>>90381297
>>90381349
we were doing that here first
>>
>>90381217
>>90381330
>>90381374
Also: How the hell could they have NOT noticed the RM walking down the hallway? And how could somebody else have not pointed her out to Becky before she opened her fat lesbian mouth?

>>90381390
That too. And I doubt the RM remembers every face in the dorm, so for all we know she thinks Becky is a student. And if she DOES know every face in the dorm, then she might just assume Becky is from across campus or something?

Y'know, I wonder just how many stories in DoA take place in the dorm wing.
>>
>>90381427
The residence manager at one of dorms never left his office unless something serious was going down. The RM of the other dorm worked out of the administration building on the other side of campus.
>>
>>90381394
Point is, they did it right away after Chloe's first strip just like we did (just 24hrs later), and it's surprising they're openly mocking Willy's art in his comments
>>
>>90381349
Have you not commented there before? It's not hard. All you have to do is just be respectful and nothing bad happens.
>>
>>90381217
>Noice Joyce cleavage
>Not showing it
Even when Willis does something okay he ruins it.

Huge fuckup on Sarah's head in panel 2 where the forehead meets the hair. Also sloppy lines of her bandana and top of ear bleeding into panel 1.

The plaidsies bit is good, though. It rings pretty true for a Becky and Joyce interaction. But Joyce's final line is very bad.
>>
>>90381705
I'm not a masochist, so no. I have no interest in engaging with his core audience.
>>
>>90381258
Actually, if you browse the comments section of websites like this, the people do talk this way.

I think it's just an appeal to audience, their senses of humor and mannerisms all converge.

I doubt they talk that way in real life, but then webcomics are only on the internet, so who cares.
>>
>>90381893
>Actually, if you browse the comments section of websites like this, the people do talk this way.
>comic is written like a message board or comment section
It explains why it's so insufferable.
>>
>>90381217
Bad paneling really fucked this comic. Space makes no fucking sense at all with Pudding Head materializing out of nowhere in a narrow hallway and Sarah not understanding how vision works, seemingly confusing it with hearing.
>>
>>90381893
that's a fair point, but how you type versus how you talk is incredibly different, particularly with word choice. and i'll confess a certain degree of vociferousness in my own discourse, but for the momentarily constrained window of thought-processing available to an individual under duress of conversational responsiveness the overuse of imagery and techo-precision vocabulary is ponderously preposterous.

and it makes them sound inhuman, and it really breaks the character of a sheltered home-schooled teenager. and they all talk in a way that any word bubble could come from any of the characters and it wouldn't be out of place. and yeah, communities do tend to adopt similar speech patterns around each other, but isn't three months into freshman year a little early for total assimilation into the vocabulary zeitgeist?
>>
>>90381992
It happens a lot in DoA in general, but It seems to always come up when there's strips in the hallway. Especially characters being surprised by people in front of them that they would've seen the entire time.

I think Willis thinks his tight panels are all the people in the comic can see, which really weird whenever you stop and think about it.

This particular strip would've benefited from just having them meet in Sal's room and then spill out into the hallway mid conversation..
>>
>>90382067
It's the beginning of October, try five weeks. Also it should be noted that while Joyce and Becky were homeschooled, they had a regular peer cohort of similar ages through their church, who ran the homeschooling program. Realistically there is nothing stopping them from speaking in a similar manner to others considering how well socialized they are. Dina is more likely to have an awkward speech pattern even if you include for her brain issues.
>>
>>90381217
Are non-students not allowed in residences or something?

Because Becky meeting up with friends is hardly something that should make her a target based on a single encounter like this.

Or maybe show Pudding Head emerging from Ruth's room in the middle of Becky's comment about not being enrolled.
>>
>>90381217
Calling it now; "Your Social-Phobic Flanking Position Has Once Again Doomed Us All" will be the title of one of the upcoming volumes.
>>
>>90382198
The idea is that if Becky is discovered to be squatting in the dorms, she'll be removed immediately.

I think the other implication is that her father was arrested without any questioning regarding the circumstances, and the school has no knowledge of Becky at all. As far as we've seen, they don't know she exists.
>>
this is a face
>>
>>90382538
You could have fooled me.
>>
>>90382538
>it's mission threatened, the undercover Becky-bot surreptitiously breaks form for a more detailed observation of a potential danger source
>>
>>90381217
I'm gonna pay Willis a compliment and say the plaid is pretty great. I just recently had to do plaid for a picture and it wasn't as easy as I'd thought.
>>
>>90381374
what's the password FOR tho
>>
>>90384017
Willis has all the strips for the next three months already uploaded. If you know the date and title, you can pull it up on the DoA website.

It's just amusing to see if we can guess what word(s) it is from the dialogue of the strip.
>>
>>90382442
I hate how right you are. Good catch. It's at the beginning of the book and is the right level of quirkiness for one of his book titles.
>>
>>90381217

Sarah doomed them? And Becky being a complete dumbass has NOTHING to do with it?
>>
>>90370132

Honestly if I had a comic anything I'd probably do it for free, and if I did offer commissions I'd do it for much cheaper than this asshole does. Drawing pretty girls is its own reward.
>>
>>90385346
She should have walked beside them like the cool people at the mall who walk four or five across at the mall, and glare at anyone not moving out of their way.
>>
>>90387000
She was hoping one of them would bump into her so she could start shit with them in the parking lot.
>>
>>90372707
I've got most of the porns saved away somewhere, I'll see if I can dredge them up.
>>
>>90387974
Great, thanks! I've been annoyed for a while that we lost the stash. I don't even care about the porn, but I like being the curator.
>>
Bump for Becky's face-roach.

I was gonna do this yesterday but I was tired.
>>
>>90392595
Lots of black women wear wigs instead of styling their hair. Sarah's just too poor to afford more than one wig.
>>
>>90392595
You know, you'd think that he would spend more time on the transparent panels since it's easier to tell when something's wrong.

Oh and another little art issue. Joyce's head looks really compact in that first panel, and in general the shape is really angular.

I think this older pic of ponytailed Joyce has a nicer look, despite issues in the inking. It's not entirely one-to-one because I think Joyce is explicitly in profile but looking towards the background while she's looking directly to the right in the current comic, but still.
>>
>>90393438
Billie looks like she's about to vomit.
>>
>>90393682
She's been drinking a lot.
>>
>>90393438
Can't remember why she took her ponytail down. What was the reason?
>>
>>90394877
Because her look is the same as Joyce's.
>>
>>90394937
I love how that's not particularly communicated in the strip.
>>
>>90392683
>Lots of black women wear wigs instead of styling their hair.

A-am I becoming tumblr?
>>
>>90394968
It took me a couple reareads but I eventually got it. Not a particularly strong punchline but it reads...sorta.
>>
>>90395150
That sounds kinda unprofessional. My rule of thumb is don't mock or tease black girls about their hair, they will rip you a new asshole.
>>
>>90395271
You shouldn't mock students in general. All it does is make them uncomfortable, sad, and/or angry.

When I had braces, I had to get an awful device in my mouth. It was called a tongue crib. It was too big, so it dug into my tongue. It gave me a lisp, and I had little divots in my tongue for a while.

A couple of teachers at my high school made fun of me for my new lisp. One of those incidents was on a school trip where I was in a van with a bunch of teenage boys.

Every incident was humiliating. I went to my orthodontist and told him what was up. He got me a smaller tongue crib that I only had to wear at night.

Still had a slight hint of a lisp for a few years. And if we're being honest, it still kind of sounds to me like I have it a little bit.

Putting students on the spot and making fun of them is not cool. School is supposed to be a place of mentorship, not bullying. That's what the other kids are for!
>>
>>90395150
It's kinda hard to say, not being there and seeing how it went down.

Generally, black women don't really like anyone touching their hair and definitely wouldn't want them pulling at it. Maybe she suggested he do it when he showed interest, but the way you phrase it makes it seem like he just came over and started commenting and grabbing it.

But maybe they get along and she was fine with it and enjoyed the attention, so it could also be okay. Generalisations don't always hold up.

Drawing attention to it is also weird, but he was at least being positive.

You are definitely becoming tumblr, though.

It would have been funnier (and more apparent) if they were wearing the same outfit too, and she went back in for a panel before coming out in a different one.

It's a fairly common thing, characters commenting on how similar or dissimilar they are dressed, so it made sense in context.

However, you're totally right. Billie doesn't show any reaction to their clothes' similarity, and Joyce doesn't show any excitement, so it just feels like a random action.
>>
>>90395717
Yeah, she just kinda looks down, but it's hard to tell where her eyes were looking, and she doesn't do anything other than take her hair down.

It's all about reactions, and that original strip just doesn't stand on its own as a joke. At least the one you posted resembles a joke.
>>
>>90395150
No, unless the student and teacher have a relationship that supports that kind of rapport it's deeply unprofessional at best.
