There was a planned Ed Edd n Eddy episode called "Special Ed", that was canned because Danny thought it was getting too real. My head canon is that it was going to be about the other kids discovering that Ed was either going to move away or be kept qurantined from the other kids due to his parents thinking that he was a threat to others. Like they saw one of the kids usual slapstick routines and reacted as if it was serious.

When you consider the fact they manage to make the film genuinely dramatic with Ed and Eddy confronting their relationship and the reveal of Eddy's abusive brother, they might have been able to make it work.
