Good pick. He's simple enough to not take away from the development of the team, but distinct enough to be memorable. He comes with legions of goons for the Sirens to beat up. If they keep his love of torture it'll make it easy for the audience to hate him and thus root for the heroes.
It's gonna be tough to convince a hollywood actor to wear a mask the whole movie unless they are someone like Karl Urban (dude from dredd). So they are either gonna be someone with a burnt face or someone who constantly takes off his mask.
more shit design choices. lets try and predict how bad Black Mask will look
I don't normally do this, but...
>Black Mask is my favourite Batman villain
Watch as they pull an Arkham Origins and reveal that Black Mask was Joker all along
>The sirens will have tats tho
I'm going for Ivy to look like this, or something resemblencing this, more likely she will have a sidecut
Don't let Ayer see this
>shirtless Black Mask with leather pants and BDSM tendencies
>War Crimes was great
Yep. Remember when Black Mask tortured Stephanie Brown almost to death, and then longtime Batfamily caretaker Leslie Thompkins let her die to teach Batman a lesson? Awesome.
So /co/, if it was up to you, would you have it be a face forming mask like in Arkham Origins, or be like exposed bone like in Under the Red Hood?
I'd go for Arkham Origins, just to avoid the inevitable comparisons to the Red Skull.
>Uma Thermon all over again
It's a shame they wont go for an older Ivy to play off of Batflecks age. I wanted Christina Hendricks.
Under the Red Hood just turned him into Saints Row's Killbane. Just do that again. Drop the need to make him some scary Kingpin knockoff or a Mask-obsessed cult leader.
The way I see it, Pam will have a sidecut with normal skin which is gonna be Pre-Woodrue, and then when Woodrue does the experimentation with her and turn Pamela into Poison Ivy she most likely have a short hair or punk hair with green skin or a combo or white and green skin. Although I coud see Ayer going for a more unreal look for Ivy to represent more her plant side, a la Swamp Thing if you will
Have we really had a villain die in a DC movie yet? Faora's still alive in the Phantom Zone. Zod's died, but technically came back as Doomsday. Doomsday died, but his entire shtick is dying and coming back. Enchantress and Incubus died, but they're essentially magical creatures that you can asspull back at will.
She could probably get back down to Mad Men sizes with a bit of effort. Unless she's gotten really big since the last time i cared to look, please tell me she hasnt gotten really big.
I assumed we are getting an older Selina to match Affleck, but Haley Bennett is the current rumoured actress and she is a bit younger
Hardy and Weaving are unconventional actor and Haley was maskless for a lot of scenes. Also Prowse was salty as fuck over the role being credited more to James Earl Jones than to him.
>Zod technically came back as Doomsday
Um, no? Lex used his corpse/genetic material to grow Doomsday, thats about it.
>Doomsday's entire shtick is dying and coming back
Not this version at least. Christ he acted more like Parasite given that his DCEU shtick was absorbing energy instead of immunity
Yeah magic bullshit still leaves her available
Well, you have to get used to it since it most likely to be in the film
As much of a Harley/Ivy shipper I am I have to admit that I can't see that happening, because of MUH B.O OVERSEAS. If ain't happened in the video-games it ain't gonna happen in the movies, it'll be fantastic if it did but it won't
I can see a look like this existing in the DCEU
I think you should kill yourself.
Harley has totally consumed Poison Ivy and her relationship with other, non-Harley people.
She used to have a sexual angle with Batman in her femme fatal ways. That's gone.
Zod's insurgents were placed in suspended animation aboard a spaceship which was then sent to the Phantom Zone.
A far cry from being jettisoned there by an explosion. The DCEU's Phantom Zone is basically another side of the cosmos and not a ghost pocket dimension.
I'm listening to the Beach Boys, it doesn't quite fit with the tone of this comic.
I'm utterly uninterested in this movie. Not even the attractive actresses are a drawn.
But it'll probably do gangbusters since Asians apparently love Suicide Squad and this will basically be Suicide Squad 2: Harley Bogaloo now with a China release.
Ok let me start off by saying Doomsday isnt a good character, hell its arguable if he even is a character given that hes essentially just the wall that finally stopped the flying brick that is Superman. That said, I dont think they did a good job with Doomsday, or at least showcasing his ability. He didnt really evolve or become immune to anything, just absorb each hit thrown at him to become stronger, hence the Parasite comparison. Actually come to think of it, he was a Parasite/Bizarro amalgamation. Regardless I wouldnt want to see him again, they already spent the Death of Superman coin and Doomsday is shit to begin with
I'll just say, I have no idea what's going on prior to this story, as I wasn't reading Batman back then, and I don't feel like going through all the lead up.
I'm from Texas, not Russia.
>except for some blank space on his forehead that spells out BLACK
As per Wikipedia:
Black Mask's origin story was established in his first appearance. Roman Sionis was born to wealthy and utterly self-absorbed parents, who cared more about their social status in Gotham City than their own son. Moments after Roman's birth, the doctor carelessly dropped him on his head, and his parents covered up the entire incident so that their high society friends would not find out. Years later, he was attacked by a rabid raccoon at the Sionis family country estate, and his parents forbade him to mention the incident to anyone. Despite their dislike for fellow socialites Thomas and Martha Wayne, Roman's parents continued to associate with them to maintain their social standing, and forced Roman to befriend their son, Bruce. His parents' hypocrisy had a deep impact on Roman, and he grew to resent them and the "masks" that they wore in public.
After graduating from high school, Roman was given a high-ranking position in his father's company, Janus Cosmetics. There, he met and fell in love with working class model Circe, though his parents did not approve of the relationship and forced him to break it off. Enraged, Roman burned down his family mansion, killing both of his parents and inheriting their fortune and business. However, Roman lacked his father's business acumen and eventually ruined Janus Cosmetics by funding a failed line of face-paint make-up. Desperate, Roman had the staff chemists create a product that was rushed to the market without proper testing, disfiguring several hundred women. Circe, now Roman's fiancée, then broke up with him in front of his entire staff.
So, he's a disfigured cosmetics magnate with possible childhood brain damage. Sell me on this guy, I'm not really getting a hook.
He got his ass beat by Nightwing in a DLC mission.
Not a fan myself, but I'd assume people like him less because of his backstory and more because of his personality. He's a sadistic fuck, tortures the hell out of people. In Brubaker's Catwoman he cuts out a guy's eyes and makes his wife eat them.
In the same way Batman is a vigilante turned up to eleven, Black Mask is a mob boss turned up to eleven. All the mafia cliches of guys getting cement shoes and stuff, multiply that by ten for what Black Mask will do, and so for almost a decade he was Batman writers' go-to mob boss guy.
In recent years that role has kind of been supplanted by Penguin, but that's a newer interpretation, so I imagine people who started reading Batman between Cataclysm and the start of Morrison's run might be pretty familiar with Mask.
You can post art if you want, you can fap to it if you want, I don't care.
At the end of the day Harley/Ivy has sapped Ivy of any other relationship and character, and I think we can both agree that's bad.
Tombstone, but edgy sadist instead of albino black man. I can dig it.
>At the end of the day Harley/Ivy has sapped Ivy of any other relationship
I agree on that though
Never thought of that comparison, spot on.
But then who'll play Sinestro?!
I care about Ivy and Harley having a monogamous relantionship
with a marriage and kids involved
Wait so Batman just let Joker shoot that guy a bunch of times in the chest?
It's a shame you can't enjoy them. Such a pity. Oh well
AFAIK War Games is his biggest role.
The second trade of Brubaker's Catwoman has him in a pretty significant role.
Weird that someone on /co/ of all places wouldn't realize that.
I like this Batmobile. I wish I could get it in Burnout Paradise
That's what I thought Arkham Origins was going to be, but then HAHA JOKER XD
I thought "pointless bar brawls" were more Slam Bradley's territory.
Be sure not to confuse Black Mask with Mr. Bones, the other skull-faced cigar smoking guy with great fashion sense.
He was set up as the main villain in all the advertising material and in the story itself, then reveals about a third of the way through the game that the Joker attacked and kidnapped Black Mask prior to the story and had been impersonating him. So then for the rest of the game the villain was Joker.
The game was supposed to be about Batman's first meeting with the Joker. As far as I can tell his plan was to distract Batman with the 12 assassins while Joker filled up a hotel with bombs and blew up the city?
Also this reveal is literally spoiled on the cover, I just noticed.
Because, at the time, Joker was DC's version of 90's Wolverine.
There's no such thing as overexposure, wallpaper the media with him and cover everything with the character branding. "Why So Serious?" People love that shit! Joker! Joker! Joker!
Black Mask wasn't dead.
The Joker basically kidnapped Sionis and impersonated him, using his funds to lure a group of assassins to Gotham to attack Batman in order to test him and feel him out. It was their first interaction after the Killing Joke style origin they gave Arkham Joker. For Origin's gameplay faults compared to the others, I think it had the best story.
One thing I love about comics: masks! In real life making a mask that can look lifelike even from a distance is an extraordinary task. In comics, everyone can make a mask that looks indistinguishable from a real face with common household items!
Now if this isn't meta, I don't know what is.
Joker confirms at last 100% that Steph counts as a Robin
>Black Mask wasn't dead.
My bad, it's been a while.
Origins really did have an interesting core premise with the assassins, some killer boss fights, and most of the character designs were solid (Firefly is lame, let's turn him into THE FURY) but the limp gameplay and general uneven execution made it feel more like a $20 standalone DLC than a full game. Or, at least, that's what I recall.
A $20 DLC stretched out to 25 hours, that is.
All I want is a Batman game that's just you zipping around a huge Gotham city, solving crimes and mysteries, without all the big overdone "I'm gonna blow up the city" plots. The best part of Knight is after you beat the game, just driving around going through the side missions and solving puzzles.
Shh, not tears, only love now
Basically I want a Batman simulator, but preferably not one I have to drop 500 bones to get a VR set for.
IMO, Harley/Ivy is just like Dick/Midnighter. It's not really in-character, but it's pretty hot and cute.
I thought the gameplay was a little repetitive since it wasn't the main Rocksteady crew doing the game. However, I think the story and character designs were easily the best of the series.
It's in character now boi. You better accept it
Trolling aside, yeah I agree with you
As a big fan of Bane, I was glad they got to revisit him and do him right. Until the end of the game, of course.
DCEU will screw it up, but I'd like a good Black Mask interpretation. He was mostly fodder in Under the Red Hood, then a putz in Origins. I want to see him as his classic manipulative, maniacal classic self.
Why can Dini, of all people, not write Bane? The DCAU, the first two Arkham games... It's like someone was trying to explain the character to him and he just went "Yep, luchador on steroids, got it." and went to work.
Technically he didn't write the Bane episode, so that one's not on him. But I have to wonder if he ever read any of Knightfall because he was working on the show, and several other shows, the entire time that was coming out. So maybe he just saw Batman & Robin and called it a day?
I remember at least one interview for Arkham City where the interviewer asked, I think it was Sefton Hill, if Bane was going to be in the game, and he said something like "Yes, we heard from fans that they were disappointed by his portrayal in the last game, and we wanted to make him more intelligent in this one"
And then ultimately what that amounted to was Bane standing in a room waiting for you to collect ten Bear Asses for him, you get a fun little team-up battle that may have partially inspired the ones in Knight, and then he gets locked in an elevator by Batman for the rest of eternity.
Do you know what comic/issue that is?
By the way, that's Odessa, Texas folks! A notorious shithole for meth-heads (sorry Odessa residents).
Nice of Batman to acknowledge he spends a lot less time detectiving
What a completely rational and sensible decision, Leslie.
its late 200 on detective comics i think, it was a few issues long actually. Just type in "blackMask first appearance" or something
Batman '89 takes a large amount of inspiration from it
And that's it. Leslie's a killer. Or is she?!
Yeah, everyone hated this, so a few years later it was retconned that Leslie faked Stephanie's death and covered it all up, which doesn't exactly jibe with this whole story.
And because there's not allowed to ever be something Batman didn't know, he reveals then that he totally knew the whole time she wasn't dead. Comic books!
Looked it up, Batman #386. I think I'll be reading that as well, thanks!
AKA the joker BKA shit people are tired of seeing countless times.
They won an Oscar? KEK! Knowing how much people loathe SS that must of hurt, even if it was just for costumes or whatever. I swear everytime i decide not to watch these things something funny happens. Shit!
Sounds good, I guess the sirens steal something from Black Mask? I hoped that he would be the main villain of the batman solo, but this is good. Just as long as Ayer gets more than 6 weeks to write the script and doesn't make everyone covered in tattoos
Watch as it'll be just a guy in a fetish mask.
>she is a bit younger
She's almost 15 years younger. I don't even think Batman and Catwoman are going to be a thing in this universe.
I guess you don't know about Gimp Mask in Red Hood and the Outlaws?
It was actually a pretty entertaining arc and I liked it a lot.
Her solo books fail
Her solo movies can't get off the ground
DC want her to be the next Harley Quinn, but she can't even beat the interest of B-listers now. She use to be popular in the 90s but people don't give a fuck about her solo adventures anymore.
>Her solo books fail
Unless your name is Wonder Woman or Harley Quinn, most every female-led capeshit book fails. The difference being that there's actually acclaimed Catwoman runs.
>Her solo movies can't get off the ground
She had ONE movie that was titled "Catwoman", which is the only thing that it ever had in common with Selina. Hell, the lead character was called Patience Phillips and the movie was nothing like comic Catwoman.
>DC want her to be the next Harley Quinn
