Black Mask Could Be Villain In 'Gotham City Sirens' Film

Another one bites the dust.

Good pick. He's simple enough to not take away from the development of the team, but distinct enough to be memorable. He comes with legions of goons for the Sirens to beat up. If they keep his love of torture it'll make it easy for the audience to hate him and thus root for the heroes.

Black Mask is still waiting for some writer to come along and give him a definitive character defining story.

Can't treat him worse than Arkham whichever one it was did.

Which was a shame considering before that they had Black Mask be the only man to break out of Arkham City

Black Mask's origin story was established in his first appearance. Not a fan myself, but I'd assume people like him less because of his backstory and more because of his personality. He's a sadistic fuck, tortures the hell out of people. In Brubaker's Catwoman he cuts out a guy's eyes and makes his wife eat them.

In the same way Batman is a vigilante turned up to eleven, Black Mask is a mob boss turned up to eleven. All the mafia cliches of guys getting cement shoes and stuff, multiply that by ten for what Black Mask will do, and so for almost a decade he was Batman writers' go-to mob boss guy.

In recent years that role has kind of been supplanted by Penguin, but that's a newer interpretation, so I imagine people who started reading Batman between Cataclysm and the start of Morrison's run might be pretty familiar with Mask.

Origins really did have an interesting core premise with the assassins, some killer boss fights, and most of the character designs were solid (Firefly is lame, let's turn him into THE FURY) but the limp gameplay and general uneven execution made it feel more like a $20 standalone DLC than a full game. A $20 DLC stretched out to 25 hours, that is.

All I want is a Batman game that's just you zipping around a huge Gotham city, solving crimes and mysteries, without all the big overdone "I'm gonna blow up the city" plots. The best part of Knight is after you beat the game, just driving around going through the side missions and solving puzzles.

I remember at least one interview for Arkham City where the interviewer asked, I think it was Sefton Hill, if Bane was going to be in the game, and he said something like "Yes, we heard from fans that they were disappointed by his portrayal in the last game, and we wanted to make him more intelligent in this one"

And then ultimately what that amounted to was Bane standing in a room waiting for you to collect ten Bear Asses for him, you get a fun little team-up battle that may have partially inspired the ones in Knight, and then he gets locked in an elevator by Batman for the rest of eternity.

hope they go with death mask and not black skull mask. Always hated that design.
