Now I really doubt this would be at all permanent or anything; I just think we're going to see more green/dark magic from her in the future. It might also turn out Eclipsa isn't evil and, like in Baby, Star could channel this magic toward more constructive purposes as she matures and learns from experience.

Yeah it was kind of underwhelming really. Moon visiting Ludo's family and Star going to the other party both felt totally unnecessary.
Star confessing was sad but it was (intentionally) rushed and not intimate at all, "Just Friends" hit way harder. Would have been better if Marco walked in on Moon about to take her back to Mewni and she had to spit it out for him right there in private, instead of making a scene.
The whole fight with Toffee/Ludo didn't really feel that impactful either, the MHC jobbed hard (as expected) and Moon's Butterfly form didn't look half as impressive as it did in Game of Flags. Toffee is still a scary motherfucker but this show handles drama a lot better than action at this point.

I mean I love how clever the show is. But IF Starco is endgame, as the series has been foreshadowing, they've done a poor job hinting Marco possibly likes Star back.

The only way I could see this ending well, again assuming Starco was endgame all along, is if when Star is gone Marco becomes obsessed to get her back. Jackie begins doubting Marco likes her and Marco tells her that Star is more important to him than her.

And that MAYBE works.

Why was season 2 so great compared to 1?

I used to hate the fact the pacing was off in season 1, wasn't that funny, and the story was kind of stale.

But I have to admit season 2 was such a blast with the shipping drama. All new waifus added to the harem and the story with Ludo/Toffee is going pretty great.

I actually liked it a lot, the 2 episodes were basically a single episode

but the change was that it combined Star's and Moon's POV so it had to dedicate time to the real meat of the episode which was to show how things, beyond Star's general fuckery, were getting out of hand and to justify Star having to leave so abruptly, the entire point was to showcase how it went from 0 to 10 in a single hour, so to speak and left Star unable to do anything

Moon was the protagonist of the finale, Star's love life problems were fucked since Just Friends and died with Face the Music

There are Psychopomp Ranglers, which essentially is someone who can traverse the land of the living and dead in an epic journey to retrieve the soul of someone lost.

A soul, especially in a multi dimensional viewpoint, is an incredibly unique thing. You see, Soul is comprised externally and internally, it is the Conscious Energy within a living thing. A psychopomp rangler can get back your Conscious Energy, but not nescessarily reanimate your body. A Necromancer can revive your Flesh and Bone, however can't reanimate your Memories or Soul. A Constructive Alchemist can animate your body and memories, but not your Soul.

When the Soul leaves the body, it undergoes a rather quick process of returning to the Original Host, which encompasses all thing and upon arrival cannot be returned as it is part of the Host, until the time that the Host deems it nescessary for a rebirth of that Soul.

Souls can be taken however and contained by forces that emulate the Original Host, or are essentially "massive vacuums of magic/physics" To do this, one theorectially must be a power equal or close to equal to the Original Host.

There we have Lekmet, who reached into the Toffee Abyss, and pulled out the very Conscious Energy, retained the Physical and Mental aspects of each character, and actually renewed their Physical form to be unharmed.
