So in my preparations for my own webcomic this summer in the vein of MSPA, I feel as though I'm not sure how fluid I want to make the gifs. Homestuck's gifs, like >>90239648, are usually fairly choppy--and it works with the kind of fast-paced, oddly-specific scenarios Homestuck (as well as Problem Sleuth) uses.

The webcomic I'm making will have the same gif + narration text + scripted dialogue format, but the zany humor isn't as strong, because the story I'm making is comparatively more grounded in reality than MSPA stories. So I can either continue making short powerpoint-like gifs to convey motion, or I can keep working on more fluid animations. Keep in mind I'm making the whole thing for my portfolio when I apply for animation internships, and I'm making the gifs on professional-grade animation software. Can I get /hsg/'s thoughts on best way to approach the animation?

I know it's interesting, but revealing more about classpects does not trump actually telling the story. Meulin is a pretty bland character, and the comic would suffer for it. Though the reveal of her being a puppet might have been neat.

You could do a whole vicious heart rivalry thing and explore how a dedicated prince player could actually use his aspect to help people.

I actually really liked the credits too.
I can't understand the hate for Act 6. The retcon I understand, although I can get past it. I don't trust anyone who didn't feel fucking awesome watching Collide. Everyone was really butthurt with Act 7 for some reason, but it was everything I wished for in an ending.
I just like the whole thing. For me it stayed consistently interesting and kept me happy throughout all of it.

DaveJade is the only good relationship in all of Homestuck, and here's why:

Both characters built on each other in a constructive way. Dave's primary issue is that he has to be the coolkid. In most conversations, he's perpetually defensive, trying to prove that he's really that cool. It's only with Jade (and Terezi, I suppose) that he's willing to drop the facade even a little. Yet nobody except Jade (and maybe Terezi, though it's hard to say what level of irony she was operating on) actually believes for a second that he is cool. The fact that Jade accepts it is what allows him to let his guard down while talking to her. She enables him to move out of his shell and become his own person.

On the other hand, Jade has enormous potential, but no one but Dave recognizes it. Rose mostly ignores her, except for when she wants a prediction, and John regards her as his silly friend but not a whole lot beyond that. Only Dave sees that, with some help, she could become something far greater than she is, and he dedicates a lot of time to helping her achieve that. Look at the client/server relationships: Rose is pretty hands-on with John, but is more concerned with figuring out the game mechanics than helping John out. Dave pretty much leaves Rose alone after she enters, since he knows she'd find being treated like she can't handle herself patronizing. John doesn't really get a chance to do anything with Jade beyond placing the initial entry equipment. But Dave spends a lot of time trying to help Jade figure things out and get situated.

Basically, Dave and Jade compliment and complete each other. No one else in Homestuck has that kind of relationship.

Hard mode is impossible because the way Hussie handles characters is probably thing that damned the comic the most. The cracks already started showing in Hivebent. By the Alphas the damage was done, and by the Dancestors the comic was a joke.

No matter how much you try to rewrite the story it'll still be a mess from how much bullshit it was trying to juggle all at once. It might not have become the internet juggernaut it was at its peak, but it'd certainly be a better narrative if it kept the main cast to four kids, four patron trolls, the four guardians and Jack.

The other response would be "the kickstarter never happened," but then the series would just be forgettably bad in the end instead of a trainwreck. It's not much of an improvement.

People argue that Jake's relevance went down, but I disagree. He's extremely relevant as being the one to basically defeat Caliborn in the Masterpiece and ultimately influence the character and name of Lord English.
Everything that Act 7 didn't tie up, got tied up with the Credits, and more is to come with the epilogue.
Everyone getting some personal epiphany to their character arc in Act 7 is dumb because they all already got it either during Collide or before it. Roxy realizes her potential by creating the Matriorb and killing the Condesce; John through his retconning and repairing the timeline; Vriska by deploying the Treasure that I presume will unleash the Beta Kids (tying up their arcs as well) years in the future to defeat LE; Terezi through her remembering of the dream bubbles and the fate of her pre-retcon self; Dave through realizing the effects of his brother's influence on him; Gamzee by helping in the creation of LE and ultimately making Lil Cal become so important; and all that shit.

Caliborn's Treasure was supposed to do like three different implied things. The animation portrayed it colliding with LE or some shit, but it was very clear that the beta kids from way in the future were going to come out and fuck him up. The credits, I think, are trying to tell you that the kids go after Caliborn in the Masterpiece in their adulthood, get shut into the Treasure, and then come out millenia later during Act 7.
The way he portrayed English dying isn't important, because them escaping into Earth C means they don't have to deal with English's bullshit anymore. How he dies is unimportant to them, so it wasn't shown, because we saw all we needed to see: English is weakened by alt-Calliope, and the threat of the beta kids returning.
Act 7 is about the kids escaping from this bullshit narrative where they have to do the exactly correct thing to do for the sake of the alpha timeline and English being created. It's purpose isn't to drag into a 20 minute battle we already know is going to happen.
That's my opinion on it, anyway. I was satisfied with the ending, and I don't think Homestuck got better or worse when Act 6 happened.

This interpretation shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Lord English both practically as a character and in terms of the themes that he represents. But I can't really blame you because End of Homestuck does the same thing.

However, I don't understand what you mean by English's interpretation and themes. Ultimately he's the reason for the Alpha timeline being the alpha timeline, as that's the only one that ends in Caliborn winning his session and becoming the omnipotent demon that orchestrates his own arrival. All offshoot timelines tamper with this and do not end in LE coming to existence, as his influence stretches to every universe before C; as Doc Scratch, the Condesce, Gamzee, Lil Cal, and 2/3 Jack Noirs all end up directly contributing to the events that create English.
But he never finds his way into Earth C, because it never existed in the "alpha timeline", not until John retconned it. So, naturally, the alpha timeline no longer exists once they cross into the Ultimate Reward, and all timelines are alpha. Right?

The alpha timeline originally ended in everyone dying and the 8 kids from the retconned timeline appearing to fight Caliborn, but this is irrelevant because Caliborn isn't Lord English yet at this point and also is in an entirely different session. The alpha timeline is retconned into the new timeline, which in turn contributes to Caliborn's masterpiece. Crossing through the Ultimate Reward marks the end of the concept of an offshoot timeline, as there is no stable loop at the end of the timeline to uphold.

This sounds more like a detail that you're ignoring because it's inconvenient to your interpretation than something that would be difficult to figure out. Gamzee's timeline makes sense to me if you accept that there is only one timeline where Caliborn participates in SBURB. This is fine because it's been shown multiple time that the old timeline and the retconned timeline exist concurrently and can influence each other.
