If I had to guess Marco wants to talk about whatever awkwardness just happened between them and sort out how Star feels about him, and Star just wants her space and doesn't want to deal with it. Well, here goes.

I find it a little glaring that they specifically mentioned that Just Friends is Star and Marco's #2 favorite song. I interpreted it as there might be some other love song that is their #1 song that the writing staff want to reveal later once Starco actually goes into full gear.

Meanwhile, Jackie's favorite song IS Just Friends, which is a stark contrast to previously mentioned. It could be foreshadowing that Jackie would be okay with being Just Friends with Marco eventually, which fits her personality.

The way I see Starco and Jarco is that if Star and Marco would be together right now, there would not be that much personal growth for the two characters, as they seem to be fine with who they are. Jackie and Marco however, it seems like Jackie has more to offer to Marco than vice versa as Marco still has a self-esteem issue that he needs to get over. She seems like basket-cases that she can use her abilities to help fix.

Star also needs to mature and learn to take responsibility in order to deal with everything that comes with being a teenager.

It would make sense for the writers to reward the viewers with Starco once the main characters develop, since at that point they would be comfortable with their feelings.

But how would they make sure Jackie isn't left out? Give her another person to fix. Who needs the most help? Tom.

Alright, here's what I got and I think I said it a thread or two ago:

Things are going to work out for Star and her endgame will be uniting the monsters and the Mewnians. Because she's kind of an anomaly; Star Butterfly is a GOOD dark magician. And this upcoming season is going to be a little more about Star learning to control the forces of evil within herself and direct all of her dark energy into a positive output.

And the writers have done a pretty good job of doing the Simpsons thing where the town feels like a character, and the dimensions feel like their own characters, and Star Butterfly has made a handful of talented, motivated friends that will help her when the time comes for them to do so. I dunno, like Fallout New Vegas or something.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Toffee is the son of Eclipsa, and the "illegitimate" heir to the Butterfly throne. I think his endgame is kinda like Magneto's in that I can see why he would want to get revenge on Mewnians on behalf of all monsters and declare himself king, but also y'can't do that, man, that ain't right. I think Star is going to find all of this out and it's really going to give her some perspective and help her find her motivation for staying a virtuous person.

Toffee is...weird. I can't tell if he legitimately cares about the other monsters, or if he's just manipulating them/pretending to care. Mah niggas, things don't change overnight. Even Jackie's development with Marco wasn't an overnight thing. You don't think to yourself after obtaining your dream girl "Hey, I think I might love someone else kek"

Marco see's Star as a really good friend who happens to be a girl. Star sees Marco as a good friend who happens to be a boy whom she oddly feels extremely jealous about now that he has a girlfriend. Even with this context, she's still showing visible and vocal support for Marco and Jackie's relationship. It's not going to happen over two episodes.

More glaring is that marco said that his second favorite song was "Too Little Too Late" in a previous episode so this is very inconsistent, also it seems his favorite one is Awesome Feeling.

But I am sure they will retcon all this for the sake of a cheesy Marar song moment in the future.
