In the later seasons he started making lots of snide, cynical observations about mainstream culture. I think it's partly supposed to read as a preteen being a little observant, mostly naive and extremely arrogant, but Gumball is right (or at least not directly contradicted) about a lot of those comments. And the show's overall perspective runs a bit conservative -- consider the constant savaging of leftie caricature Mr. Small.
Gumball isn't a good role model as a political thinker, since he is still supposed to be quite naive, but as it stands in seasons 4 and 5 his personal views skew more toward /pol/ than tumblr, without really getting close to either one.

Having Gumball around and even Teen Titans Go sometimes giving the other side is always nice. So many shows nowadays have such a blatant liberal message. Steven Universe always is doing too much when it comes to political and racial things. It's too blatant and comes off as propaganda. Gumball feeds you it low key and often leaves it open ended.

Either way, politics really shouldn't be done in cartoons but if there is one character I'd love to see handle political topics it would be Gumball.

Nah, /pol/ was pretty much 85% Libertarian a few years back. They're pointing out examples of accepted and commonplace liberal authoritarianism and vouching for controlled immigration while keeping a special place in their heart for the ideals of Ron Paul. One political compass meme I remember about it was the text "When times are good" on the purple square and "The time's we're in now".

Well liberal is different from Libertarian, most liberals I know either hate libertarians even more for being farther right than the republicans or only focus on the social issues. Both your stereotypical Conservative and Libertarian are more industrial than environmentalist after all. /pol/ has gotten more centrist economically. While socially they became more conservative because /pol/ was a bastion for conservative opinions for young people, people could all talk to each other about five or six issues they were legitimately conservative on, learn to see those ideals as equal to their own, and because after it's a website you constantly visit you pick up it's ideals. They hate liberals acting like minorities can do no wrong more than actually hating minorities.
