Is the Roy Thomas Avengers run the greatest team book of all time?

>greatest team book of all time?
Fantastic Four
Not even the best Avengers run, Roger Stern for life.
>>90175930
Needs more Beast and Wonder Man.
>>90175930
The GOAT Hank Pym costume but I'm pretty sure it lasted less than 10 issues before he Yellowjacketed
Thomas deserves to be recognized for the Avengers what Kirby is to F4 or Ditko is to Spidey. Being the best or not is debatable, but he undoubtedly created the formula for the book and is the benchmark that all runs should be judged against.
The Lee / Kirby and Lee / Heck Avengers comics are shockingly bland considering the premise and how well the soap opera melodrama was working in other books. Outside of bringing back Cap and the concept for the Kooky Quartet they're garbage.

>are shockingly bland
Well is was something made up on the fly to fill a slot in their publishing scheduale
>>90176616
>Don Heck drawing literally anything but a 60's pinup girl

It was kind of like the best "pound for pound" team book. I don't think any cape team book ever did more with so little (read: a b-list roster).
close, maybe
Top 15 maybe.
BusiekVengers
No matter what he was on, Thomas was always a "solid" writer. He never pushed boundaries like the best of his peers, but you could be confident that you'd get a well done superhero story picking up one of his books pre-1990.
His run, while undoubtedly important, more paved the way for better writers. It's good, but less so than Englehart, Stern, Busiek, or Remender.
Gardner Fox Justice League of America is the best IMO
Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men

Mah nigga

Roy anything is pretty great like >>90181334 said
but Englehart was a tad better even though Thomas had one of the most influential storylines with the Kree/Skrull war

yup and if there was some sort of list then Millar's Ultimates should be on it, that book was dope and if this isn't strictly Marvel then Wolfman's Titans too
>>90180890
nostalgia at it's best... thanks anon
Morrison's Doom Patrol
>>90175930
Not even in the top 10

Top 10 by Moore is the greatest team book of all time

>Thomas was always a "solid" writer. He never pushed boundaries like the best of his peers
Conan the Barbiarian. Roy brokered the deal for the rights himself, the book was completed detached form the Marvel U, had a lead with no powers, had no humor, had no morals, etc. It pretty much recreated the genre of fantasy comics in the 70's and Roy stayed on for an almost unheard of 115 issues. That's not even including the even better Savage Sword of Conan stuff.

Kree-Skrull War
I'd take crazy Steve Englehart and the Roger Stern stuff over Thomas and to be honest, I don't love those either. The Avengers are a constant disappointment to me as a big Marvel fan (1961-1991 only, everything else is garbage).
I also find most celebrated Justice League runs to be overrated too. Other than Earth 2 I'm not too interested in Morrison's JLA. Some of the Fox/Sekowsky stuff is fun.
For me, the best team books are Claremont's X-Men, Kirby's Fantastic Four, and the Drake/Premiani Doom Patrol.

Dunno if I'd go as late as '91.
>>90176616
I loved Lee/Kirby Avengers.

>Roger Stern for life.
Muh nigga
But the Thomas run was damn good & has gotten kind of forgotten over the years...
>>90189099
Me too, it's a lot of fun- probably my favorite Kirby work of the first 5 years of the Marvel Age.
>>90187875
>Drake/Premiani Doom Patrol
You are a huge fucking hipsterand also my nigga
>>90175930
