They're not actually making any progress until we see that progress happen, or at least the results of that progress. Their dates have all been basic couples stuff, plus skateboarding. As far as we can tell, Marco still doesn't know Jackie any better after three dates than he did when they went to the movies. She got throwaway lines about her interests beyond skateboarding, but they haven't been explored, so they're hardly worth more than fluff on a character bio.

No story was advanced, the status quo was unaffected, no characterization developed aside from Star getting wet over adult Marco's abs and we already know she likes him so that's hardly new.

Starco happening, but Star and Marco realizing that they're better as friends and not lovers, does feel like like it could be a well told story, so Jarco end COULD work.
