Really it's hard to compare because of lack of coherency in the Street Fighter power levels. Darkstalkers has always been pretty consistent about "These are all supernatural creatures who can do all sorts of crazy shit." But Street Fighter is ostensibly about human martial artists. It certainly was in Street Fighter 1, and mostly was in Street Fighter 2. But then from Alpha onwards you start getting anime stuff stuff about forbidden dark powers and Illuminati gods and T-1000s and what the fuck is this even Street Fighter anymore. All the meanwhile most of the same old punchy guys are still hanging around (because getting rid of them will kill sales) and somehow going toe to toe with all this.

The early Udon SFs by Ken Siu-Chong worked well with the base material - as they made more books, introduced more writers into the fold and Capcom started releasing SF4 and its follow-ups, they got more constrained and twisted in weird directions.

Also, the Ibuki series could have been interesting despite the atypical character choice, but it ruined a perfectly good contrast of motivations with Makoto to force a pseudo-Spiderman narrative, but the writer's own admission...
