The Ahegao (アヘ顔, which has often been interpreted as “weird face”, ahe coming from the Japanese onomatopoeia of “アヘアヘ(aheahe)” describing female’s flushed breath/moaning in sex and her sexual excitement, gao meaning “face”) is an exploitable phenomenon taking place in pictures of close-up faces from a token character modified in order to have a kind of lust-filled, overly exaggerated orgasmic expression, the eyes usually rolled up with teardrops/sweat at times, the mouth wide open with the tongue sticking out and blushing cheeks.

At least in my opinion, yeah she definitely has her flaws and so does her show in general but I liked her struggle and progression. Her hooking up with Asami at the end was unexpected and a bit rushed but I don't think there was some big conspiracy to protect the show from critics.

Amon was the coolest thing they even did.
And even he was a contrived mess with no motivation for doing anything worthwhile with the opprotunities givin with his character.

Couldve gone the lifebender route by givin lifebending by a spirit. Instead made a bloodbender who doesnt have to care about established lore about only doing it during a fullmoon. In fact the whole show doesnt give a shit about anything in the previous show.

But its okay its not korras fault that her show went and shit the bed. It was a blateant nostalgia pandering from the beginning.
All that having to train with the 4 elements gone.
Now the avatar already starts off knowing 3 elements for fucking reasons.
The only reason she didnt know airbending was so contrived in that she laked spirituality.
The fucking spiritual guide for the world whose been reincarnated numerous times doesnt even have a spiritual side. Just this once.
>>
>>90147608
>The only reason she didnt know airbending was so contrived in that she laked spirituality.
That was fine. The problem is she didn't progress spiritually at all, so when she does finally airbend, it's a complete asspull.

It wasnt fine. This girl activity denied wanting to meditate and airbend train correctly. Then if that wadn'y bad enough she lashed out against her airbending teacher telling him he's tesching her wring. All she had to do was sit down and quiet her thoughts for 5 minutes.
Cant even do that.
What happened to the guru's teachings in aangs subconscious when he died? Did the stroke he have was so severe that it wiped his memory of learning about those completely?
Also speaking of aangs death. Why not show us how he died on screen? Like they did with previous avatars. The reason is also stupid as all hell.
100 years caught up to him when he was 40 years old already?
Ahahahahaha
Then why did the previous show even happen. After aang was out of the ice burg he would've immediately felt those years and died on the spot.

Korra and Aang are not the same person.

Not the same person. But litterally the reincarnation of each other.
If you are the reincarnation of the previous avatar the memories of the previous person are completely accesable to you.
Meaning korra activity never looked within her own previous lives memories on her own even a little.

It just doesn't make any sence how fast technology advanced. It took them 50 years after just discovering air ballon and submarine technology. To goddamn cars and electricty. Thus mechas and lasers were right around the coner.
The old aesthetic was completely ruined. And even if they wanted to make it steampunk. It would've only worked if they tried to make the tech gap between shows make a little sence.

Even then. The most prevalent nation technology wise was the fire nation. Which after having a hundred years long war to develop technology. Had just mastered air ballon tech after about a couple months of having the blueprints.
Then the bulk of the rest of the world jumps in tech after the war from basically what was once a place that heavily relyed on bending powered trains to get around. To fully functioning automotives.

A lot of it that isn't drawn by Kyhu or Drakyx is pretty lame, actually, and Kyhu doesn't draw porn anymore, so we can count her out. I'm surprised; I thought it'd get better, not worse.

Aside from her close personal friends, no one in the public liked Korra. A Mary Sue is instantly liked by all and has the solution to everything immediately and everyone points out how amazing they are at everything right away.

>Why the fuck is she not considered a mary sue if she blateantly ignored the learning curve for bending all the elements?

Because she still had instructors teach her as she may have awakened her ability to use the elements but didn't pop out a master. The fact that the Avatar has to be told they are the Avatar rather than just discover it is sketchy, especially the common time frame of 16 years old, as the 4 Nations lived together in harmony - not isolated. So people could see others bending the elements in their various interactions, especially airbenders who could move from temple to temple. Or just looking up at the moon as a native fire or earthbender. Or seeing a dragon back in the old days despite being an airbender or earthbender.
>>
>>90152171

She spends most of her childhood being trained by masters in her first three elements. How is that blatantly ignoring the learning curve?

Master airbending. Towards the end of Book 3 Toph and Zuko say Aang's firebending is a long way's away from being a master. And before you say that Toph has impossible standards, the comics are canon. Also Zuko saying he has a long way to go when Zuko has been on the losing end of battles only scrapping through through the skin of his teeth.

A probender isn't of three elements, just one. Korra went to the United Republic at age 17, not 10. Also Aang immediately got the hang of water and firebending but decided not to pursue fire because Katara immediately healed her hands that he accidentally burned while having fun.
>>
>>90152443

> a 4 year old came to being just as good as a pro bender of 3 elements before even reaching the age of ten

When does this happen? When we see young Korra bend, she's not very good at it. She doesn't officially master firebending (her third element) until she's 17.

>>90153662
I actually think that Korra very much is like the Star Wars prequels, especially because Bryke themselves are big Star Wars fans and because Korra had the exact same administrative flaws as the prequels. Just like Lucas, Bryke got too big and staffed their sequel project with sycophants, yes men who wouldn't tell them what to do, to their detriment.

I mean, fuck, Korra is basically Anakin, and the probending in Book 1 is comparable to podracing. Bolin is even kind of like Jar Jar.
>>
>>90153998
What we know is that they didn't have the staff on hand like for ATLA.

Now if Bryke literally turned down writers then that's another story. But it seems like they were given certain limits in terms of how many they could hire on and for what positions. Is there a direct quote that has them saying they turned down other writers and deliberately chose to write season 1 by themselves?

That screenshot is the deepest and best crafted moment in the whole show. Korra's silent admiration of Aang, despite that the statue of him defies most of everything he stood for, shows her encouragement to fill the giant shoes he left before her. It's this nice, quiet moment that shows that Korra could actually hold a lot invested in this Avatar schtick.

she makes the precise model towards the end of season 3, she has trouble due to not being able to sandbend about halfway through season 2. She had over a season to be working on her sandbending offscreen.

That's because now you can marathon through shitty episodes like The King of Omashu, The Great Divide and Avatar Day.

If people watched ATLA the way most people watched LoK (one ep a week, more or less), people would actually talk about ATLA's shitty episodes instead of forgetting about them as soon as they get to the good ones.

Also, I still can't forgive ATLA for it's dumb deus ex machina ending.

My problem with this is actually different: it's that they threw away a significant potential plot point, and one of Toph's very few weaknesses, for literally no reason at all, as it played no other role in the finale. Seriously, did whoever wrote that not know of the concept of sequels?

Gee, a fantasy series treats a disability like something more than a handicap, what else is new?

Pretty sure she was just bucking most of the standard moves and "proper etiquette" because her sense allowed her to read opponents and change stances instead of having to see someone's attack.

An idealized and seemingly perfect fictional character fits him.
>>
>>90178454
I'd argue that she did suffer the emotional consequences, just never had to solve her own problems... 'til Kuvira came along anyways.

She almost killed herself after she lost her bending and failed as the avatar, but her bending came back through bullshit, and her enemies did kill themselves.
In S2 she ended the avatar cycle, literally killing off her mentors, and then almost lost to Unalaq right until Jinora ex Machina saved her.
Then the Red Lotus fucking crippled her with poison, only to have her be rescued by air benders and the gang, which yet again gave her severe depression.

Only until she went on her "quest" with Toph to regain confidence did she ever really not suffer the consequences.

... so yeah knock it off with the "not suffering the consequences of actions" shit, mary sue my ass, mary sues do not attempt suicide.
>>

I never said she was a Mary Sue, just that she had a fair amount of Sue-ish qualities.

>Children can be prodigies you dingus
She's not just a prodigy. She fought Bumi to a draw. Bumi, with literally decades more experience who's been fighting in a goddamn war for a hundred years.

>Gee, a fantasy series treats a disability like something more than a handicap, what else is new?
Just because other people do it doesn't make it good.

>Pretty sure she was just bucking most of the standard moves and "proper etiquette" because her sense allowed her to read opponents and change stances instead of having to see someone's attack.
No, they literally gave her her own unique fighting style. Common earthbending is based off of Hung Gar. Toph's style is based off of Southern Praying Mantis style.

Again, not saying she's a mary sue, but it's silly to criticize someone like Bolin for earning bending too fast but then use Toph as a good example.

Because Toph isn't remotely Sueish.

She had come a long ways from the tv show by the time she fought Bumi, and even then it was a DRAW. She didn't wipe the floor with him and make him totally job.

It is good because they didn't make her disability too much like a superpower while still making it stylized.

And her own personal style doesn't make her a Mary Sue, hell, it means she isn't a copy/paste of every other earthbender.
>>

>you agree with me that she often doesn't have to DEAL with the consequences of her actions.
I do, at least the finale when Kuvira walked /m/'s wet dream into Republic City.

But yeah, Korra for basically all of the series relied on her friends/allies/former enemies to deal with the big bad of the season.
I mean, she even got to date every member of team avatar 2.0 without dealing with the consequences.

She shouldn't have been able to touch him though considering the ginormous disparity in experience. All the other billions of child prodigies in the series, though pretty good and in the top percentile, none of them were depicted as being close to the top dawg except Toph.

>It is good because they didn't make her disability too much like a superpower while still making it stylized.
You're giving them too much credit. It was rarely ever a disability. There were maybe two or three instances where her blindness actually was a disability.

>And her own personal style doesn't make her a Mary Sue, hell, it means she isn't a copy/paste of every other earthbender.
It's Sue-ish when she's the only character in the series to have their own unique style.

Aang fights the same as other airbenders.

Katara fights the same as other waterbenders.

Zuko fights the same as other firebenders.

and so on.

Toph's the only one to have her own special snowflake style.

I agree that was also shit writing, although I wouldn't place it on the same level as the Korra season 1 and 2 finales. My problem with the ATLA finale is that it solved Aang's moral dilemma for him, but at least he still defeated the Fire Lord by himself. He fulfilled his duty as the protagonist and dealt with the central conflict of the narrative. Korra never solves the central ideological conflict of the first season. Amon runs away, and the equalist movement just stops, never to be seen again. They reduced an intriguing political/ideological conflict between benders and non-benders into a fist fight with Amon, but that wasn't what the central conflict was, which was supposed to be a conflict of ideals.

The season 2 Korra finale was just a joke. The Lion turtle/energybending shit at least felt consistent with the Avatar world. Giant spirit projection Korra, and Light Jesus Jinora were really, REALLY stupid. I guess Korra technically does deal with the central conflict, but how she does it doesn't feel believable in the slightest.
>>
>>90184404

> he still defeated the Fire Lord by himself

Nah, his past lives did that by taking over when he accidentally activated the Avatar State. Ozai was absolutely destroying him before that.

> Korra never solves the central ideological conflict of the first season

She exposes Amon's bending to his followers, making them stop supporting his cause.

> The Lion turtle/energybending shit at least felt consistent with the Avatar world. Giant spirit projection Korra, and Light Jesus Jinora were really, REALLY stupid

Harmonic Convergence is like Sozin's Comet for spiritual powers. The comet let firebenders make giant fireballs. Harmonic Convergence let people make giant spirit projections. All Jinora did was locate Raava inside Vaatu.

You know what I mean. Besides, the Avatar State was an established power that we knew he had from the beginning.

It wasn't about Amon, or at least it shouldn't have been. Non-benders were feeling marginalised by society (whether that was justified or not), and Korra did nothing to alleviate this social divide/unrest. Those feelings of intense hatred towards bending shouldn't just disappear instantly because their leader was a fraud. It was more than Amon, it was the movement he represented.

>Harmonic Convergence is like Sozin's Comet for spiritual powers. The comet let firebenders make giant fireballs. Harmonic Convergence let people make giant spirit projections. All Jinora did was locate Raava inside Vaatu.
The comet giving firebenders great power was established in the eighth episode of the show. The random spirit powers Korra and Jinora had in the finale were pulled firmly out of their ass.

We knew he couldn't use the Avatar State after Azula killed him. His chakra was blocked. He unblocked it by accident. It's also clear that he doesn't have control of his body until he has to stop himself from actually killing Ozai.

> Non-benders were feeling marginalised by society (whether that was justified or not), and Korra did nothing to alleviate this social divide/unrest

Attacking triad members who extort nonbenders and trying to stop Tarrlok from arresting innocent nonbenders isn't "doing nothing".

> Those feelings of intense hatred towards bending shouldn't just disappear instantly because their leader was a fraud. It was more than Amon, it was the movement he represented.

Defeating Amon showed that the Equalists' violent revolution wasn't the answer. Nonbenders figured out a peaceful solution to their problem: electing a nonbender president.

> The comet giving firebenders great power was established in the eighth episode of the show

Harmonic Convergence giving great spiritual power (when both portals are open) was implied in episode 8 of Book 2 (Beginnings Part 2) and explicitly confirmed in episode 10 (A New Spiritual Age):

"The elders believe that as long as the portals are closed during the Harmonic Convergence, Vaatu will remain imprisoned and the battle between good and evil will not be fought again. But, if both portals are open, spirit energy is amplified greatly."

> The random spirit powers Korra and Jinora had in the finale were pulled firmly out of their ass.

Korra has projected her spirit from the physical world into the Spirit World before, just like Aang did back in ATLA. It's not an asspull that she can project her spirit from the Spirit World into the physical world. Her spirit just happened to be powerful because of Harmonic Convergence.

Jinora projected her spirit to where they were and basically just pointed out where Raava was.

Lucky or no, he still defeated the fire lord, which is my point.

That's incorrect. He had unlocked all the chakras, therefore he had complete control. If he didn't, he wouldn't have been able to stop himself.

>Attacking triad members who extort nonbenders and trying to stop Tarrlok from arresting innocent nonbenders isn't "doing nothing".

>Defeating Amon showed that the Equalists' violent revolution wasn't the answer. Nonbenders figured out a peaceful solution to their problem: electing a nonbender president.
You're expecting masses of angry people to behave in a rational manner. It isn't realistic, that all that resentment would disappear. Plus, it's questionable the non-benders were ever really marginalised in the first place (not like the show explored that angle at all).

>"The elders believe that as long as the portals are closed during the Harmonic Convergence, Vaatu will remain imprisoned and the battle between good and evil will not be fought again. But, if both portals are open, spirit energy is amplified greatly."

And Korra defeated each of LoK's main villains. Sure, she had some help from her friends, but Aang did too. Sokka, Toph and Suki stopped the airships that Aang would've had to stop from burning down the Earth Kingdom. The White Lotus dealt with the Fire Nation soldiers occupying Ba Sing Se. Zuko and Katara stopped Azula's coronation.

> That's incorrect. He had unlocked all the chakras, therefore he had complete control. If he didn't, he wouldn't have been able to stop himself.
If Aang had complete control, he never would've even started that final attack he does right before he stops himself. It's not until he puts out the fires in the end that he goes into the Avatar State with full control.

> Not to be rude, but you're really clutching at straws.
Am I, though? Tarrlok using his power, specifically his influence over the other council members and Chief Saikhan, to abuse the nonbenders of Republic City was a pretty big deal.

> It isn't realistic, that all that resentment would disappear.
That's true. Still, electing a nonbender president is a pretty big step in the right direction. Even if anti-bender revolutionaries weren't completely gone after Book 1, it's not unrealistic to think that their group lost enough members to not be Republic City's greatest threat anymore.

> Plus, it's questionable the non-benders were ever really marginalised in the first place (not like the show explored that angle at all).
Again, triads extorting nonbenders, Tarrlok arresting innocent ones, the entire council being composed of benders. How were they not really marginalised?

>>
>>90185512
>And Korra defeated each of LoK's main villains
To reiterate, defeating Amon didn't solve the central conflict in Korra. Defeating the Fire Lord did.

>If Aang had complete control, he never would've even started that final attack he does right before he stops himself. It's not until he puts out the fires in the end that he goes into the Avatar State with full control.
I'm only going with the canon explanation here.

>Am I, though?
Yes. Korra did fuck all to solve the conflict at large. We never even got to hear Korra's opinion on the conflict. We assume that she's against it, but only Amon's position is explored, which makes it easier to sympathise with him honestly.

>Again, triads extorting nonbenders, Tarrlok arresting innocent ones, the entire council being composed of benders. How were they not really marginalised?
One gang doesn't represent society as whole. Tarrlok was only doing that to stir shit up further so he could take control. I don't think all of the council were benders. There were plenty of wealthy and successful non-benders (Hishiro), and there was no clear systemic oppression.

If a rock made of ice is flying through their planet's atmosphere, firebenders get a tremendous boost in power compared to the sun - something much bigger than the comet. > To reiterate, defeating Amon didn't solve the central conflict in Korra
> Korra did fuck all to solve the conflict at large.
If you consider the oppression of nonbenders to be the central conflict on Book 1, I would say that Amon and the Equalists actually did a lot to solve that problem. Their extremism created a new problem though: terrorism, which Korra solved. The conflict Korra solves in each season is dealing with well-intentioned extremists who go too far.

> One gang doesn't represent society as whole ... There were plenty of wealthy and successful non-benders (Hishiro), and there was no clear systemic oppression.

Hiroshi's wife was killed by a different triad, the Agni Kais. Even Mako and Bolin's parents (who were benders) were mugged and killed by a firebender. Yakone almost took control of the entire city single-handedly with his bloodbending. Amon explicitly says that Lightning Bolt Zolt, leader of the Triple Threat Triads, got rich by extorting and abusing non-benders.

Benders abusing their power in Republic City had been a problem for several years.

Unavaatu was half-spirit. Spirits can touch other spirits. Also, if regular spirits (Wan Shi Tong) can interact with physical objects, I don't see why a HC boosted human spirit couldn't. Besides, giant spirit Korra touched the portals to warp to the physical world. If benders get to keep their bending in the Spirit World by going through portals, it isn't a stretch to let spirits keep their material form in the physical world by going through portals. Some spirits like Wan Shi Tong can cross between worlds and keep their physical form even without portals.

Aang was trying to meditate into, not out of the spirit world. An event like the solstice during ATLA seems to be what allowed spirits like Roku's dragon, who can follow its friend into the Avatar's Only headspace, managed to snatch up Aang and lead him to Roku.

The spirit world and physical were said to be grow closer and closer until the line between them is blurred completely during the Winter Solstice. If we had got an explanation similar to that for Harmonic Convergence, once every 10,000 years celestial event, then maybe it wouldn't be such a fan theory.

>doesn't explain the giant thing, nor why Aang's projections clearly weren't in the physical world
Again, Korra's giant spirit goes through the portal (see pic related). We know that traveling to the Spirit World through portals allows people to keep abilities they would otherwise lose (like bending). Isn't it plausible that a spirit that goes from the Spirit World to the physical world through the portal would be able to interact with the physical world?

>and the "HC boost" as applied to projection specifically is just a fan theory
Sozin's Comet boosts firebending power.
Making fireballs is a firebending ability.
Therefore, Sozin's Comet allows people to make giant fireballs.

Harmonic Convergence amplifies spirit energy.
Spirit projection is a spirit ability.
Therefore, Harmonic Convergence allows people to project powerful spirits.

Yet they still couldn't *interact* with the physical world. Also, the "out of" part seems like a retcon.

They'll never let you raise them with them

How triggered are SJWs that both of them have such perfect bodies?
>>
>>90187255
Well, the portals were an unquestionable, and massive, retcon so I try to ignore them.
I mean seriously, what happened to the oasis?
>>
>>90187178
A big problem with the jolly blue giant is shouldn't Vaatu be getting a ridiculous boost in power from HC? It should have been like some random athletic person fighting someone in the Avatar State.

>Also, the "out of" part seems like a retcon.
Spirits were leaving their spirit world with physical bodies, going "out of" the spirit world, back in ATLA.

Of course the portals thing is weird and I didn't like nor wanted Wan's story. Though ATLA did have an arch like a torii that Aang was shown entering the spirit world in during the Book 1 finale of Water. The portals that come to canon with Wan could invoke that plus the >>90187334 explanation of H.C. with everything being blurred to the point that even non-spiritual people can see the spiritual like the paleblood moon of Bloodborne.

What is hubris, I suppose. He thought he was uncontested now that Raava was sealed up inside of him. Korra essentially took him by surprise and used that to her advantage. Except the writing dictated that she wouldn't be able to win because they needed to shoehorn in Jinora for no reason.

Vaatu wasn't sitting inside the Tree at the heart of all spiritual energy meditating. He was out and about with a physical body. Also "random athletic person" defeating the Avatar was the normal in LoK.

Not human spirits though >>90186894

Humans aren't naturally spirits. So they would have different things happening to them as they are not made up entirely of energy.

The one the gAang visited in the desert? Apparently it was connected to Airbenders since it didn't sustain ice like how Aang remembered it did. How's that even work anyway? Spirituality literally left their world once all but one airbender was killed so spiritual things weren't kept up? That doesn't make sense.

It kept up the trend with Korra not instantly locking down Vaatu like how Wan did it instantly when he went Avatar State back then.
And how she had difficulty with Unalaq+Vaatu human.
It's all bad writing starting from the first season and continuing forward.

young Korra was able to bend three elements as a little kid but didn't do anything special. She could move some small rocks, a cup of water, and make and little flame. And then it cut forward over a decade to the point where she was master/proficient in those three and she had spent those years in a special compound with personal tutors and masters training her.

Not in S1. They had that council with no elected officials, just random people who I think were supposed to represent cultural leaders.

>>90187672
No, the oasis at the North Pole.
The one that was completely forgotten in LOK and replaced by a portal.

AtlA never fell flat on its face when trying to finish plots, which Korra did, every season. Even if you hated the Spirit Bending end of the show, the whole final episode was absolutely amazing otherwise.

You must be fucking blind because it's right there when I searched for it.
