I'd say more girls enjoy "orbiter hobbies" like cosplay because girls naturally like to play dress-up.

Not too many seem to enjoy action oriented media in general regardless if the protagonist is also female.
They often at best like the look of a character and the admiration they can get by dressing up like some kind of weird stripper.

I know at least some female comic creators at least are kinda tired of Raina Telgemeier books sucking up so much of the oxygen when it comes to female and young readers. And they wish that critics would stop being so soft on her. I have no opinion on the books themselves because I haven't read them, but I find it interesting that a lot of female comic creators and readers yearn for a more complex and nuanced approach to how their work and reading habits are talked about.

I mostly read art or small press comics, e.g. Fantagraphics, D&Q, 2dcloud, etc. Favorite artists are Clowes, Hanselmann, Van Sciver (though I followed the work of the latter two prior to their books with Fanta.) If this election cycle taught us anything its that the kid that sat in he back of stats class and said "you know, isn't this bullshit and very vulnerable to confirmation bias?" was right.

You contact 1000 people from demographic information from a list you got from "facebook users that like the Harley Quinn page". 700 reply, and 300 are women very vocal about their comic support, 100 are women that don't, 200 are men that read comics and 100 are men that don't. We've just "proven" more women read comics than men.
