25 years ago a bunch of Marvel artists left the Big Two and decided to form their company, with blackjack and hookers. This company would eventually become the closest to a third competitor for DC and Marvel (lol) and the best known creator-owned comic book company out there.
For our final week, we'll be looking at modern Image, an age of superstar writers, popular artists, and... movie/TV pitches?
Next up is the reimagining that surprised everyone, Brandon Graham et al's Prophet, based on characters created by Rob Liefeld
Saga:
>>90074366
>>90103599
What ever happened with Prophet?
I remember seeing it for a while, and then it kinda just dropped off.
>>90103805
It ended with Earth War a few months ago.
>>90103844
Was it a proper ending, or an "oh shit, we're cancelled. Pack it in." Ending?
>>90103957
Proper, I think. Liefeld really liked what Graham and his friends did with his characters so I'm pretty sure he allowed him to properly finish his story.
>>90103957
>canceled
The opposite.
The storyline was originally intended to run for 24 or 25 issues, and it got extended to 31 to fit more stuff in.
>>90103599
Oh man, I loved Prophet. Guess I'll have to read it again
>>90104415
Too lewd!
>>90104814Would you?
Skipping the back-ups (which I believe I didn't do when I first ran this)
>>90105054
thanks for posting this m8, stuff like this is great. not to reduce it to its base elements but weird bug culture, gross fuckin', head chopping and stuff are always welcome. great mix of fantasy elements and sci-fi
>>90105181
Just doing my bit.
>>90104866
Of course. For the mission!
>>90105632
Of course, everyone knows the Earth Empire's true purpose wasto fuck every alien on sight
>>90105688
It is the way of our Patron Saint Kirk.
>>90105741
Naturally!Dibs on the green chicks
>>90106410
I get the feeling this guy...these guys are basically cloned Conans from ancient DNA who are outfited by Batman himself.
>>90106853
Graham was inspired by Conan, among other things, for this, yes
>>90106718
this dude is hard core.
>>90105137
What were in the back ups? I read Prophet here before but my memory is a bit fuzzy.
Also thanks for storytiming this. Prophet is truely fantastic and has inspired me to start writing my own sci-fi universe.
>>90107261
Random sci-fi stories IIRC, they didn't have much to do with Prophet at all.
>>90107261
Standalones, some just general sci-fi like an organic jail that makes prisoners forget as they try to escape or a family line stuck as tributes to a unknown entity and finding each other.
Bit unfocused if you ask me, but it was great to give exposure to small authors
>>90107039
creepy...
And that's all for Prophet. If you want to read more of it, check out the other parts of my Prophet storytime:

See you tomorrow with more modern Image.
Thanks.

I love this book so much.
>>90103599
Bamf
>>90103957
It was a good send off and really hit home how even though every event we might think important, they are still grains of sand in the grand scheme of things.
>>90108918
That was an overall theme of the book in general though. Even the stuff in what was storytimed here. Huge derelicts and an ancient creatures; vast clone armies of long dead empires still trying to carry out their mission even though the society they served has been dead for millennia. The whole book plays with themes of the futility of time.
>>90104415
yes. more of this
>>90106282
I wish I had a prehensile tail :/
I like scifi that is past casual understanding. A future that's just like ours, but with flying space boats is pretty dull. The future should be hard to understand.
>>90112898
who says this is the future?
DON DON DONNNNNN
>>90113094
I'm pretty sure it's explicitly stated in that this takes place like ten-thousand years from now. .
>>90113094
Oooo!
>>90113192
Oh, well, guess it is then.
nump
>>90112898
So then, not so much scifi, moreso science fantasy?
>>90117610
Yeah.
I think it's just a lack of interest in modern times. I love history but my interest dwindles quickly once the 20th century comes and is gone by the 1980's come. So in turn future that is just like our lives, but "more", has no interest for me, but Star Wars, 40k and this, I'm ok with.
