ITT let's design blasters like it's 1977.

Take a gun, preferably one that's obscure and/or hasn't been used in decades, and add/remove shit to it until it looks like it'll shoot lasers. 1,000 years in Photoshop or drawings.

Pic related, based off a SIG MP-48. Not too good, but I wanna see what you guys can come up with.

Good ol' Filoni, in the other hand, seems to like the idea

http://comicbook.com/starwars/2017/02/18/star-wars-rebels-knights-of-the-old-republic-reference-confirmed/

>So yes, Star Wars Rebels absolutely did pull part of the Knights of the Old Republic story into canon, officially. That doesn't mean the whole story is, of course, unless a future Star Wars storyteller needs, say, a Jedi who became a terrifying Sith Lord but found redemption in an unconventional way.
>>
>>90098551
You mean the green screen video game cut scene? The one with no sets? Don't get me wrong, it looks beautiful...but it's not near as impressive as a real action set.
>>

>>90099129

Well, i dont think it works that way, but still
>>
>>90099128
Of course CGI aged like yogurt but the staging is better imo, like how the camera pans from the calm of high atmosphere to the Republic ships and then dives into the battle. Also more pilots PoV makes it more interesting than just watching the dogfights from the ground perspective.

Honestly, i think a live action series of Star Wars, no matter which era, will be watched anyways. The reason why i think the OR is a nice choice is because that era is a "clean slate", so far in the past that you can do anything you want with it

yes there were some problems caused by 80s technology. but the battle for endor was one one of the greatest special effects set pieces ever made, completely raising the bar for special effects not just in star wars but for every movie to come after it.

it was such an amazing piece that when making the SE, return was the most heavily modified but still they didnt touch the space battle at all
>>
>>90099362
Darksaber was a mistake to begin with
>>
>>90099373
>but still they didnt touch the space battle at all
They actually did, they cleaned up a lot of matte lines and some of the ghost squares that get left over from the bluescreen process.
>>
>>90099385
really? must have missed that one
at least they didnt replace the models with CGI like the alien singer at the start
>>
People on this board don't even know what star wars is.
>>
It's clear that Disney don't care about politics or really Jedi vs Sith even. So Disney is doing what they do best with the Sequel Trilogy.

Giving "fans" what they want - more of the same.

We're not getting that Old Republic Movie. Or that KotOR/II movie, or a movie about the ancient Sith Lords, or about the Je'daii Order and the Rataka.

It's just OT era spinoffs from here until the day Disney finally loses the rights to Star Wars which is never.
>>
>>90099469
Good. That's exactly how it should be.
>>
>>90099120
They could use the story of Tar Vizla
>>
>>90099373
It was breathtaking in '83 but let's not pretend that it looks better than modern CGI, like in Rogue One or even RotS.

The ship movements are stuff and limited, laser bolts and hits look like shit, there are squares around models, more fancy fighters like the B-wing couln't be filmed doing anything else than flying straight, fighters flying close to capital ships look bad because unlike in CGI they can't be filmed together etc etc.
>>
>>90099498
the battle of scarif is probably the only one that can top it, surpassing it both in scale and use of special effects

>>
>kotor fags come out during the very early mornings

>>
>>90099507
Use of special effects, what does that even mean?
Effects were impressive when it was filmed, but the same applies for RotS.

But CGI is objectively better than models for the reasons I listed. If the battle of Endor was redone with the same script using 2005 level of CGI it would look much better.
>>
>>90099527
It's not vomit, it's good story telling.
>>
>>90099598
the battle of scarif is the result of applying modern technology to the battle of endor, and it is hands-down the best produced battle shown so far
the battle of endor was aware of its limitations, and managed to put itself to good use, giving us a setpiece superior to naboo and geonisis
>>

we like sheev, despite being flat as a board, because he was entertainingly evil, he gloated, he had swagger, he was just so evil it leaked out

he also gave us something new, vader could hack and slash, but sheev was something else, he was a frail old man who could fry luke just by pointing at him, that was freakin awesome

now maul isnt all bad, his double bladed lightsaber was like seeing the emperor shoot lightning, but he lacked the charm and charisma of the similarly flat sheev, who we absoulutely hated yet still found cool

Hi there /swco/.

Started watching Rebels last weekend and I'm almost halfway through Rebels season two. So far I've enjoyed it very much. Season one started a little slow but got better as it went on.

Pic related was a good episode but is it just me or was there a little to much sexual tension in that particular scene? Isn't she a little to old for Ezra? Anyway, I really like the new Inquisitors, do they get a backstory or will they die a nameless goon like the first one?

Revan and Malek were not interesting to me. The interesting part of their characters were not even in the game. I wanted to see two Jedi deal with the temptations of the dark side on their military campaign as they go into deep space on their chase during the mandlorian war (To be honest, I wish this was the story we got between Anakin and Obi wan). I'll give them credit for coming up with a star wars like "reveal" scene. Basically everything about the Jedi and the force just boiled down to this morally grey area which I don't like. I hate the prequels. I hate the Jedi are forbidden to love code. I hate the force no longer being a spiritual metaphorical thing. In KOTOR 2, it's so far away from the original concept I don't even care anymore. I hate how the Sith Empire is just a Galactic Empire clone. Kotor 1 story really is nothing new, it's just a rehash of star wars tropes and characters. Not that this is a bad thing, but the whole ancient aliens thing and the intangibles really didn't feel star wars to me. I don't want more prequels, I want more OT in my star wars games. I hate the Jolee character with a passion. There is no grey area of the force according to Yoda. I also hate the Bendu thing from Rebels.
>>

>>
>>90101908
I didn't read the books. I just read spoilers and leaks hoping for some info for the sequel trilogy. There was no mention of any main SW character deaths.. unless it was Wedge Antilles or something. I can't remember, but I know he's in a battle at the end. All I know is the main villain is in charge of a contingency plan and was being secretly groomed by Palpatine. He was going to use Jakku and a bunch of shit to blow up half the Empire and bring everyone down together so that the Empire could be reborn from the ashes... but then he was shot in the back by another Imperial and the contingency plan never happened. The woman who shoots him then leads what's left of the Imperials and they blast off into deep space in Palpatine's super star destroyer or something.

You stole my OC asshole...Here is his real bio
Quotes: “I wonder, which is more painful? Dying… or seeing the one you love with all your heart die right in front of you? Let’s

Height: 5.8 feet
Weight: 150 pounds
Species: Darkness/Human
Gender: Male
Personality: He is calm, twisted, and just evil. He’s quick to anger when things didn’t go his way but becomes more dangerous. When targeting his prey he is patience and likes to manipulative that person’s feelings. Enjoys causing pain to others physical and emotional. His favorite hobby is to see the life of someone slowly die out, or break their heart or spirit into millions of pieces.

Likes: Seeing others in pain, causing pain, killing
Dislikes: Heroes, anyone ruining and interfering with his fun

Powers: Like all siths he uses the dark side of the force but mainly relies on his red force lightning. He prefer to use the force lightning to electrify his chains making them electric whips that shock the enemy. With the power of darkness his chains can extend in length and summon multiple chained lightsabers from dark portals. Sometimes the chains can form objects and shapes.

Weapons: Two crimson red lightsabers attached to black chains, he calls them the Cursed Chains. The chains are attached to the ends of the lightsabers and around his forearms. Picture Kratos' main weapon from God of War series but with red lightsabers instead of blades. He slashes and stabs with the lightsabers or uses the chains to suffocate or electrify his prey.

Weakness: His anger gets the better of him sometimes. Also plays too long with his enemies, allowing them the time to escape or for help to arrive.

But isn't that exactly the point? Vader and Sheev want force sensitive servants to track and kill the last of the Jedi, but they don't want to risk being overthrown by them. So they pick the weak one willing to surrender to the Dark Side and give them gadgets like their spinny sabers to make up for their lack of talent.

Also, it's not like they have a huge selection to choose from. The Jedi get most younglings.

Plus, the Jedi have a much better training and support system. Who is training the Inquisitors? Because I don't think Sheev is doing that himself.

People go on and on about the PT lacking various things, and my argument isn't that their wrong, it's that the OT had all the same problems.

Can anyone REALLY tell me that Luke was developed """well""" according to whatever arbitrary meaning of well used to judge the PT?

>ANH
Luke is a stock self insert "dreamer" protagonist who meets and old wizard and after only one "training" scene is able to call on the force to guide missiles with pinpoint accuracy.

>ESB
Learns some philosophical stuff about the nature of calling on the force, but then somehow became good enough with a Saber for Vader to comment on it/notice it, even though Yoda never taught him how to fight with a Saber. (whether he did it offscreen or not doesn't matter, as PT bashers wouldn't accept offscreen as an answer for something in the PT).

>ROTJ
Same thing PT bashers meme on ROTS for.
Just Like Anakin has become much stronger off-screen, In between films Luke has become a borderline master capable of dueling his father into submission.

It never mattered that SW had shit writing for OT babbies, so why do they bash the PT for it?

I just hope that when LFL eventually fills up the ancient eras they will scrap the concept of the Sith Empire. Or at least rename it (and obviously the KotOR/TOR aesthetics and technology have to be disintegrated).

It's retarded that Sheev reorganizes the Republic into the Empire if the last empire the people of the Republic remember was the literally evil Sith Empire, the eternal enemy of the Republic. Also the line "FIRST. GALACTIC EMPIRE!" loses its weight when it's a first galactic empire just from a certain point of view.
And if the Sith Empire wanted to become a galactic empire Sheev is just publicly amitting that the evil Empire just became Galactic.

Sith Confederation, Union, Alliance, Entente, Axis, Consortium, Syndicate, Federation, State, Authority, Realm, Conglomerate, Kingdom, Dutchy, Brotherhood, whatever. Just not the Empire.

Most people? We have like two examples of that.

And that's because a) there were only 10k of them for the whole Galaxy, probably most of them sitting in the temple b) the Empire was actively earsing them from history

The Sith Empire was the greatest enemy of the Republic thruought the millenia, I'd that it'd be something every citizen of the Republic learns in the elementary school.

Aside for the fact that this "quote" is made up and Luke never said he doesn't know about Jedi...

Luke Skywalker was an uneducated farmer from a super bakcwater world that wasn't even a part of the Republic.
>>
>>90105715
Then let me rephrase that. The jedi weren't a myth, but their powers and abilities were seen as that.
>>
>>90105700
Luke lived in the space equivalent of bumfuck middle of nowhere Nebraska and he was rarely ever allowed outside of his uncle's farm. It's not a surprise that he wouldn't know a lot of things.
>>
>>90105515
At no point in the OT does anyone regard a Jedi as a myth. As a matter of fact, Luke, Han, Tarkin, Motti the other High commands are not surprised by the term. Luke questions the Force like Han and mostly everyone else not the Jedi. Motti, Han and Tarkin make dismissive mentions of them like an order of crazy misfits. Jabba laughs at Luke for calling himself a Jedi making it pretty clear he's seen them in action. The angry his advisor has also reinforces this.

>>90105777
Exactly. ANH is very technology vs spirituality/nature
>>
>>90105700
>Luke: No, my father didn't fight in the Clone Wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter.

>Luke: You fought in the Clone Wars?
>Obi-Wan: Yes. I was once a Jedi knight, the same as your father.
>Luke: I wish I'd known him.
>Obi-Wan: He was the best star pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior. I understand that you've become quite a good pilot yourself. And he was a good friend.
At no point in the conversation does Luke express puzzlement to the term Jedi. He does when Obi-Wan mentions the Force.

Honestly I wish for more like this in the upcoming movies so people can shut the fuck up about the theatrical choreography of Lightsaber fights. Star Wars always has been like that, and always will. I remember Hamill saying they wanted more flashy twirls and fast-paced action in the OT, and the only reason they didn't have more is because it was hard to do with Vader's bulky suit.

>>90106859
This is just wrong. Watch the Making of the Lightsaber Documentary, it's short and its on Youtube. George explains that they had basically dropped the idea that the Lightsaber was really heavy by Return of the Jedi. TCW says that the hilts are pretty heavy, but the Lightsaber should otherwise be very light and easy to use by a trained Jedi.

Honestly, the only one where they legitimately look heavy is ANH. Obi-Wan and Vader both act like they're wielding this big, heavy swords (but even then you have Luke casually holding it with one hand without much problem). By ESB they're no longer treating them as these heavy weapons that require two hands just to swing.

Yeah he has. He just said they needed a way for the Inquisitors to get to each of the levels while traversing up the Temple.

Maul/Ahsoka/Ezra/Kanan were using the lifts, so they needed the Inquisitors to find a different way, especially because at certain points in the episode the Inquisitors arrive before the heroes do.

They've never had jetpacks before, so it'd be weird for them to just show up with them, so they decided that their larger Lightsaber hilts could have repulsorlifts in them.

While ignoring that the decision came from George himself because he had a story to tell, and it took half a decade later before Maul actually got a proper new toy

Honestly, almost everything in Star Wars was made without merch in mind.

Lucas's stance on it was that toys would be made and sell no matter what characters or stories they go with, so they didn't need to worry about that at all.

Nope. There's a lot of stuff they never make toys out of, despite the constant insistence that certain ideas only exist to sell toys.

There's no spinning Inquisitor lightsaber, either. They made an Inquisitor lightsaber but strangely it not only doesn't spin but has completely different features that have nothing to do with it- it comes apart so you can have two lightsabers and use the ring as a chakram.

I know how a longsword handles, that's why I said the prequel lightsabers behave like longswords, you wouldn't do stuff you see in the prequels with something that is truly heavy.
>>
>>90107480
Even looking at that webm I can see why they went into spinning. They were locked into a frustrating stalemate, where neither could get past the other's offense or defense. They were literally stuck between two desks with little to no room to move, and even if one of them did, it'd be checkmate. They were making each other work for it. Keeping one another on edge.

There is literally nothing wrong with this sequence.
>>
>>90107529
The only two times I've ever felt the "it's just there to sell toys!" argument had any weight was BB-8. He's largely pointless in the movie (even his role as the movie's McGuffin just kind of fizzles out halfway) but the only character who rivals him for merchandise is Kylo, who was a much more important character.
>>
>>90107620

My opinion is not based on a meme. It's based on that it looks fucking stupid. I don't give a shit if it's "based on real sword fighting." It's two dudes spinning their swords for two seconds and then starting the fight back up. And the camera cut right before the spin is pretty awful too. Also those awful fake kicks that happen before the spin.

And for the record, I think Obi Wan's spin in ANH is pretty dumb too.

This was one of the biggest things that turned me off about TFA.
BB-8 was such a forced meme all throughout that movie.
Like, in the other movies, not everyone called R2 by his name, unless they knew him. (come here, my little friend).
In TFA, EVERYONE calls it BB-8 or BB Unit at all times. (almost, I think Hux said "the droid" once.)

>>
>>90107689
Eh, he doesn't do it for me. They just took Artoo's head and slapped it on a ball. Also the ball design is only interesting as a novelty- when you think about it it's not only impractical as hell but counterproductive since the hatches for his various tools are on the rolling body itself, which means he always has to re-orient himself just to use his own tools.

Like imagine if Sears sold you toolbox that's a giant ball with hatches all over and you had to constantly roll it if you wanted to get something that was in a hatch touching the floor.

One of the reasons Pablo isn't a fan of lightsaber forms is because it doesn't always correspond to what's on-screen, and this is one of those instances. None of the choreography was done with the specific forms in mind, so trying to say "no, that's impossible because Obi-Wan uses form 3" doesn't hold up.
>>
>>90107808
It's not super practical from a tool-delivery standpoint, but it makes sense for movement. A ball can pretty much roll over any terrain in a way that an R2 unit might not be able to (although I don't think we ever saw this be an issue with R2D2). At least, until they gave R2 overpowered jetpacks
>>
>>90107850

His opinion is not irrefutable, and is therefore not a fact.

>>90107852
None.
>>
>>90107821
I'm not sure that was intentional though.

The character of Boba Fett was a gimmick/joke character, in that he is presented as a "scary badass" but dies like a chump with no effort. That was literally the joke, it was supposed to be funny.

It was the fanbase that stuck to the "omg so badass" idea, which caused the merch to sell really well, and Boba to become a huge deal in the EU
>>
>>90107821
Boba Fett appeared in earnest in other material before ESB. A lot of people like to forget the presence he had in comics and cartoons even before he got turned into a joke in episode 6. But then, that's the Star Wars cycle.
>>
>>90107872
>It's not super practical from a tool-delivery standpoint, but it makes sense for movement.
Yeah, but you sacrifice utility for easier movement, which is counterproductive when the droid is meant to be a moving toolbox.
>>
>>90107859
>None of the choreography was done with the specific forms in mind, so trying to say "no, that's impossible because Obi-Wan uses form 3" doesn't hold up.

Well, there ARE forms/styles of fighting for each on-screen character, the problem is the EU lightsaber forms were not created with those real styles in mind, so they don't really correspond with everything on-screen.
>>
>>90107921
>the problem is the EU lightsaber forms were not created with those real styles in mind
small correction: they were not created by consulting the creators of the styles or using information about those real styles Gillard created

They were created by observing what was on-screen and just assigning moves to the forms they made up
>>
>>90107873
And it's irrefutable that I think it looks stupid.

"I think X" is a fact. That doesn't mean X is, itself, a fact.
>>
>>90107897
I'm pretty sure he was just in that one cartoon where he rode a dinosaur and doesn't really do much of anything.

In ESB he just stands around looking badass, and shoots at Luke once.

So by this point we think "ohhh, ahhhh, this guys the real deal huh?"

Then the pay-off of this joke, that was set up, is that when we finally see him in action, he gets bumped into the pit by a blind man. He even flails his arms and screams like a girl as he falls to his death.

The pay-off to the build up was that it was a fake-out, George was setting him up as a joke so that we'd find it funny in an ironic way.

The real villain of the movie was always only supposed to be Vader/Sheev, and I suppose Jabba.
>>
>>90107897

They're both a different kind of utility. A literal tool chest would be the most practical in a workshop, but it doesn't move so easily. If mobility is a high importance, then it makes sense to sacrifice some effeciency in other areas for that.

But ultimately, it's Star Wars, and I don't really care how practical every little thing is. Protocol droids are pretty shitty, for instance; but they're still the norm for some reason.

The holiday special alone didn't do it, but Boba was an early mail-away figure, so kids could send away for one before ESB was even out. So "cool new bounty hunter from the new Star Wars movie" was enough to excited a lot of kids. Plus look at the picture they used for his packaging.

A lot of the EU writers who turned him into this one-man army who could kill anyone and anything were the same kids who got this figure and imagined him owning the hell out of all the other figures in their collection.

Putting it in simpler terms: if you know someone, you'll know how they fight. Form and style are irrelevant if you already know your opponent's battle tendencies. All you need know is how to get past them. The same is true for your opponent.

There are certainly a few stories that could have benefited with another episode.

But for the most part, Rebels is satisfying, the episodes are mostly enjoyable, and the flow of stories and arcs feels natural.

TFA was a jumbled mess that tried to stay fast-paced in its storytelling, while advancing through as many OT-reminiscent locations as possible.

>inb4 people post that TCW is better than the PT

So a while back someone posted that TCW webm that shows the force priestess explaining to Yoda about how dead people get recycled into the force, and it was fairly long winded.

In ROTS, Yoda tells Anakin the very same thing, he's just more concise.
>Rejoice for those around you *who transform into the force*. Mourn them do not, miss them do not.

BUT one anon said yesterday that based on the TCW webm that TCW "added more mysticism to the force than anything since ESB".

I've seen other people say similar things over the years.

So my question is- why do people straight up deny and warp the PT to fit their weird narrative about TCW being better than the PT?

Because I would argue that the ROTS scene is more subtly written than the TCW scene.

>one anon said yesterday that based on the TCW webm that TCW "added more mysticism to the force than anything since ESB".
Hey that was me. I might as well explain myself seeing as you've posted quite respectfully.

Firstly, I want to clarify that I love the Prequels, and I think ROTS is one of the best peices of Star Wars media period.

I also don't think Midichlorians or whatever was bad.

The reason I said TCW added more mysticism is simply because I believe it did. Remember ROTS is just one movie, with only a couple scenes on the matter. TCW was a series with over 100 episodes, many of which delved into the spiritual, the explainable, the mystic. Even beyond the Yoda/Mortis arcs, there were plenty of little scenes, or standalone episodes that added, expanded and further mystified the Force.

So simply by quantity alone, I feel like TCW simply added more, not to discredit ROTS, but the sheer bulk in the fantasy aspect of storytelling in Star Wars that is in TCW can't be denied.

I definitely see Pablo's point on the lightsaber forms as shown in the EU. Practising Karate myself, you find that while kata is a good teaching tool, all they really are is an organization of common techniques. Im that, kata actually can flow into each other.

To say it's a "simulated fight" is both right and wrong. You're not going to rely on a particular kata to get you through an encounter, but rather techniques or maneuvers from kata that suit the fluidity of the situation. Kata is typically trained traditionally, in sequence, but ideally it should also be trained with aliveness in mind - breaking from the rigidity of the sequence and creating variation. But in general, you're simply training new instincts. Rather than flinch or cower in what looks to be an attack, you'll have trained responses.

That's all lightsaber forms as we see in canon are. As interesting as they are foundationally in Legends, in practice no one's going to specialize in a particular form unless they've trained it against every possibility.

After seeing Rogue One, I severely doubt this about the Solo movie.

That they're doing a Han backstory movie at all is risky enough.

Plus it's not like it'll be set only a few years before ANH. Do even know how young Han is supposed to be in this movie?

>Do even know how young Han is supposed to be in this movie?
Probably early 20's. The actor is 27, but he can pass for younger (plus Ford was 35 in ANH, but the character was only 30)
>>
>>90108973
>That they're doing a Han backstory movie at all is risky enough.
It's less risky than Rogue One, since the entire basis for it is "Han Solo is popular, let's do a Han Solo movie."
>>
>>90109021
>>90108973
I'd much rather a Lando movie.

Or fuck, even do a Boba Fett movie TGTBATU style with Bane and Hondo.
>>
>>90109042

Passing for younger is easier than passing for older, so it should be fine.
>>
>>90109080
It will make more money but not be as good as RO.

>>
>>90109115
idk man, Rogue One was kind of a perfect storm. It was a great movie, and it had Vader hype. I'm not sure the Han hype will be able to bring as many people in, and there's not gonna be light-saber shenanigans to excite people.
>>

There could be lightsaber shit depending on how far back the movie goes to set up Han's back story.
>>
>>90109080
Yeah but this could really backfire if they fuck up Han and Lando's characters.
>>
>>90109139
Normies love Han. Normies also love mainstream movies. Han merch sells like shit but a Han movie would do well.

Unless it's really, really bad.
>>
>>90109080
Harrison Ford is the reason why Han Solo was popular. This new guy looks like a fuccboi
>>
>>90109232
>Han merch sells like shit but a Han movie would do well.
contradictory statement
>>
>>90109222
Why would Han be around lightsaber shit? If he's 30 in ANH, then he was 11 when O66 was executed. Why would he be around Jedi as a kid?
>>
>>90109139
There was a reason Disney made Ep 7 feature Han.
>>
>>90109222
Reminder that the Han movie is Lucas's idea

Reminder that he has had this story as far back as ROTS

Reminder that he was even going to have scenes in ROTS of a young Han saved by Chewie on Kashyyyk in the middle of the Clone Wars

It is very entirely possible that the Han Solo movie could have scenes, similar to loli Jyn in RO, where Han is a kid on Kashyyyk, with Clones and maybe even a Jedi.

According to Kennedy, the movie wasn't Lucas's idea. Apparently he had a bunch of spinoff ideas he gave them but Han wasn't one of them (and neither was Rogue One since we know John Knoll was behind that one)
>>
>>90109298

I don't know where you heard that, but Pablo said the Han movie IS Lucas's idea

You're completely right about Rogue One though, that is the only spin-off conceptualized entirely by Lucasfilm without Lucas

Isn't Han from Corellia?
>>
>>90109326
The merch might not sell, but that doesn't mean the movie won't. Movies with high grosses have had really poor selling merchandise before.

Though movie hype might be enough to start moving some Han merchandise, but it'll probably be a short-lived phenomenon.
>>
>>90109358
Anybody else cum buckets when they saw this thing?

We were only at the start of the movie, and I knew it was going to be /my movie/ when this thing rolled onto screen
>>
>>90109371
It will only be attributed to George if they go with the story he wanted for it. Otherwise it's someone else's Han story.
>>
>>90109380
Yes he is, but at some point Lucas came up with the idea that Han would meet Chewie when he was just a kid on Kashyyyk, and they would help each other escape the now-Empire Clone Troopers.
>>
>>90109021
