It would be nice to see any reason why Robin is a successful candidate. Like, Leslie looks up to her as becoming an extremely young congresswoman, but nothing about her seems laudable. She would've had to have some savvy at some point, right?

Even if you take the trump angle, there's at least a bunch of people who think he's funny and agree with his positions, it would be nice to show that group. We even went to a rally and didn't get any insight other than the really basic. "they're all racists" angle.

You overestimate Willy's opinion of his opposites on the political spectrum.

I doubt Willy even really considers them people. They probably hold a position in his thoughts more like stormtroopers or similar mooks, whose lives revolve around making the "good guys'" (SJWs and co.) lives miserable and bowing before their evil emperor (Trump).

Point being, his explanation for Robin's success is not likely to be anything less simple than "her constituents are subhuman morons".

My problem with this is that it makes Leslie's appreciation for Robin's career seem so strange. Like, if Robin is that toxic and has inspired a toxic vocal group in the state, why would Leslie be so positive about her? Why did she get blindsided by Robin's defense of her stance on gay issues by saying that she panders to the majority at the expense of the lgbt minority?

I feel like the writing around Leslie's crush is very difficult to swallow.
