My take on that whole scene is that Finn associates PB with duty of a hero and it's his way as a person. Why Finn Sword? Probably just because writers wanted to look smart because they had it already preplanned. It was all in the same season.

Though that's kinda shitty way to make you look smarter, because there is an implication that PB is connected to Finn Sword when in reality she probably isn't at all. They drop subplots anyway, so if she was meant to be connected, she is not now.

Also it wasnt that hard to make Loligum stay and reject Finn at the same time. She could just tell him that she likes him but ultimately she has to do her job as a princess anyway and has to go back slowly but surely. They just made it all obsolete in one episode.
