It's a show anon. It's funnier than most currently airing shows in it's category, but it's plot get's wrapped up rather clumsily. It's not a waste of time, not any more than what's directly comparable that is. Also, don't listen to us, we're all faggots.

It is a good and comfy show and its main draw is the humor which you'll probably like if you like the early Simpsons seasons. You can't judge it on /co/ which just alternates between incestposting and Mabel hate but the show itself is good. Just don't expect too much but that's easier now without the crazy build up some of the codes, mysteries, and hiatuses created when the show was running. Season 2A is the strongest stretch.

gravity falls has a variety of different types of humor compared to star's one type of humor.

its major characters have reasonable growth throughout (with the possible exception of mabel, i wont argue about that), and the plot is continually unfolds in both plot and 'filler' episodes

when star has a filler episode, it's either late spongebob style humor (most of the season 1 filler), or you get these odd cases where its like the storyboarder had already mentally quit but was on legal contract to turn in SOMETHING, so you get a non-episode like the one where the dog won't let go of the wand and there's not even an attempt at writing anything remotely entertaining
