It's basically an Archie parody with the actual Archie characters.

Many people have done "what if Archie was dark and edgy?" parodies. Ed Brubaker spun a whole CRIMINAL arc out of it. So there's a market for this kind of thing, the Archie owners just realized they could do it officially.

The rapport between the characters is there, but a lot of the plots are just the worst cringe shit. At least they took criticism and got rid of Ms. Grundy real fast, that was definitely the worst of it. Get rid of every adult except Archie's Dad being a scheming asshole and then we're getting somewhere.
