I think that has more to do with Metal Landers having different naming conventions than them not being close. Like a lot of the Zulls shown have descriptive last names rather than family names and it's been hinted that Svana is named Blackheart because of a fur marking on her chest. Also Hilde is called "of Stykkisvik" which sounds more like a title than a family name.
