This episode largely derived the humor from how absurd the idea of taking advice from a magic 8 ball-esque toy is, and that advice being right every time. Squidward should be right, since he's the logical one, and yet the conch shell always ends up being right, much to his chagrin. It's kafka comedy combined with absurdism to a humorous effect.
