...and another day already, willis FLEW through the previous day.

And somehow robin is still hiding out at leslie's house.
>>
>>90039203
Are we supposed to be endeared to Robin's antics?
What happened to DoA being more realistic and down-to-earth versus Shortpacked? I mean, Robin probably didn't fuck her way into become a Senator, so why is she acting like somebody who can't even eat a slice of bread without a knife and fork?

And the fact that Leslie and Robin have apparently been tracked down to this single location by reporters and have kept themselves cooped up all day only adds to whatever damage has been caused to bother of their reputations.

Anyways, the password is "grateful". Used in a sentence: "We should be grateful that Willis isn't just giving up and making everybody work in Galasso's Pizzeria and renaming the comic 'Shortpacked 2' or something."

As has been stated before, all we have to do is wait three months to see how Willis reacted to all the negative criticism about this whole sub-plot.

And there HAS been negative criticism.
>>
>>90038933
So how long was she in universe in that hospital room?
>>
>>90039637
We don't know because Willis cut off the date, and it was never stated when the whole thing started.
>>
>>90039637
I think she went in on a sunday night, so 2 days 3 nights?
>>
>>90039203

Wait, is Leslie supposed to be expressing dismay in the last panel?

She looks like she's seen something cute or something.
>>
>>90039637
Two days. This day will be her third, but since she's leaving it doesn't really count as a day.

But she was interred on a Sunday and is getting out on a Tuesday/Wednesday. I say this because both the Walkypedia timeline and the John Campbell timeline both put the previous day as being a Tuesday, and thus this new day will be a Wednesday, yet Willis seems to think it was a Monday and this new day is a Tuesday.

Or am I even reading any of this right? I'm so goddamn confused right now.
>>
>>90039764
Also her nose grew?

I'm starting to think that Willis doesn't even know what is a facial feature.

>>
>>90038933
Here's what "The Webcomic Review" said about this.
>What kind of douchebag hospital puts a screen behind your bed so that A. Anyone walking by can look in and see a list of your medications, and B. You yourself can not read the screen because it’s behind your head.
>>
>>90045731
There's an episode of Parks and Recreation when Ben is in DC and this one politician sits and stares at the wall. He turns on for the cameras and then just basically powers down until he needs to talk to anyone. That's how I'm starting to see Robin.

Or she's a Trump analogy because she clearly shouldn't have her job.
>>
>>90046371
She started as a Sarah Palin analogy when she entered the political arena in Shortpacked! which actually fit a lot better for her character, and had it's amusing moments.

Willis trying to make her a Trump analogue is fucking forced and retarded beyond belief.
>>
>>90046371
oh yeah... that was a great bit. this one just feels like he's trying to cram her old personality into a portrayal that can't really accommodate it, square peg/round hole style, and it's... bad. even for willy.

i don't think robin is the trump stand-in though. i think her whole arc started while he wasn't even thought of as a legitimate candidate.
>>
So, when exactly did Willis jump the shark with DoA?

>>
>>90046778

I'm split on this. It's like the unfunny, unholy lovespawn of Encyclopedia Dramatica, Wikipedia, and reddit.

Too factual to be funny and yet too cheeky to be factual.
>>
>>90039203

Leslie pretty much brought this on herself. She willingly participated in Roz's scheme to wreck Robin's political career. Now that she's succeeded, THIS is the result.

Karma is a bitch.
>>
>>90047099
>I'd hardly call that jumping the shark.
Amazo-Girl doing BIKE STUNTS! on the highway was almost quintessential jumping the shark.
>>
>>90046632
Does this mean that trump has gay sex with liberal teachers?
Did leslie and robin even get to carpet munching or did they just fall asleep in the same bed?
>>
>>90039846
Okay, I think I figured it out.
The most recent strip with Ruth is actually at midnight on the Tuesday we've been experiencing, meaning that NOW we're entering Wednesday.

Which means that Ruth is indeed leaving on the Wednesday after the Sunday in which she was interred, meaning that she's been hospitalized for just under 72 hours (3 days), give or take.

Apparently group therapy, pudding, and crying about being suicidal is all you need to be cured of your co-dependency and alcoholism.
>>
>>90049070
It's the night of the Tuesday, yes, not midnight which would be at the start of the Tuesday. And yeah, we're entering Wednesday.
>>
>>90048674
It'd be pretty fucking interesting if Robin isn't interested in Leslie, she's just fucking with Leslie's head for taking part in Roz's plot under the assumption that she's lost the election.

>>90049070
Actually it's the one bit of realism in this whole mess. Psych holds are only for 72 hours, so if she went in Sunday afternoon she'd be leaving Wednesday afternoon unless they found a pressing reason to commit her.
>>
>>90038933
how the fuck did she read that at that angle
what hospital has the budget to install tv screens in every room for ONLY that purpose when whiteboards exist and can be modified on the spot?
>>
>>90050093
But Robin is hurting herself more than anyone else by not doing damage control for what could easily be explained away as an innocuous photograph except that Robin spent the next 2 days in Leslie's apartment.
>>
>>90050943
Robin can't damage control, she showed up drunk to Leslie's apartment and passed out. The news media has been outside since before they woke up the day before so she can't leave without it being construed as proof that she's having a lesbian affair. Robin's an idiot, but that doesn't preclude her from being spiteful as hell.

That stupid "You came out whiter" moment with Sal and Walky. The fact that Willis still insists that it's completely true infuriates me so damn much, if only because it gives Sal immunity frm her shitty attitude and life choices.
>>
>>90051237
I think anon means that it fails to strike a good balance between informative and funny.
>>
>>90046706
I'd say that around the time Becky got that haircut was a bit of a watershed moment. Especially since the preceding arc is arguably the best thing Willis has done in DoA
>>
>>90050093
It's only realistic if we get Ruth being forced to follow up afterwards with group meetings and therapy sessions.

Sure, the initial hold is only for three days, but there's no way they're going to just go 'okay, you're not going to kill yourself as soon as you walk out, so feel free to keep drinking and smacking freshman around for having smart mouths'
>>
>>90052855
For that to happen, Willis would need to do research. Pretty sure he's allergic to effort.
>>
>>90052658
Well it's not like there are any other good places that review webcomics (other than thewebcomicreview)
>>
>>90052855
>so feel free to keep drinking and smacking freshman around for having smart mouths'

Great, now I want Ruth as a 70s pimp with Billie as her bottom bitch.
>>
>>90049618
Depends on how you see midnight.
Regardless, it would have been nice if Willis included a clock on that television screen. Even if it was just a little digital clock that said "11:58 PM" or something. When the strip got posted in here yesterday, I was confused by what time it actually was in the strip. For all I knew, it was 3AM and Ruth couldn't ever get to sleep.

>>90050093
It's still less realistic to say that one group therapy session, which we were not laid privilege to see ourselves, was enough to say that as a character she has changed. Like, it's development happening off-screen is what I mean. It's just bad writing in general. Again.
>>
>>90056519
funnily enough, they had the same issue we've had with the stupid screen placement in Ruth's room
>>
>>90056960
Actually it wouldn't be that, it'd be that the hospital determined her to not be a risk to herself or others.
>>
>>90058688
Also a good point. Hell, would she ever be left alone for long enough as implied in the strip where she begged to Billie not to abandon her or whatever?
>>
>>90059458
Yes, but it's questionable if Billie would be allowed to see her.
>>
>>90059611
They may not even know who Billie is, given that she apparently managed to enter and get in her room without question.

Come to think of it, this is kind of a crappy hospital. I'd hate to be interred in this place, no matter how clean it is. Imagine if you had to come in with an actual disease or affliction and they just gave you pudding instead.
>>
>>90059745
I *think* it's only for mental health. They suck anyway, though.

>It's now the beginning of October
>Everything that's happened in the comic in the last six years, and five and a half months has amounted to roughly the first five weeks of class.
>At this rate it'll take Willis until 2028 to hit Winter break.
God it's like a more boring version of watching paint dry.
>>
>>90060967
Think about every single plotline in the strip, then remember all of it has happened to the characters in five weeks. This isn't paint drying, it's a nightmare world where entire lives are upended on a daily basis only to have everything change and continue like nothing happened at the drop of the hat. We've gotten two sex scandals involving the university and the same politician, we've got a rapist on the loose, we've got codependent, suicidal lesbians, we've had a gay guy go back into the closet then come out again, we've got a lesbian squatter hiding out from her guntoting dad, we had two kidnappings - both of which involved a vigilante dressed as a superhero, we've had a brawl at a political rally, this is not some boring milquetoast world; this is insanity recorded by the minute.
>>
>>90046632
Given the three month buffer, maybe Willis decided to return Robin to a more Shortpacked state when it was getting apparent that Trump would win. Reading about Trump-Robin would be unsettling to his target audience.
>>
>>90061259
The problem is that Robin wasn't a Trump analogue in DoA until very recently, like "partway through the primary season" recently. She basically became Trump one day and it's never really sat well with how the character is presented.

If anything she's always come across more as a Hillary Clinton analogue in DoA.
>>
>>90061259

The three month buffer makes it really weird when he tries to do political shit, doesn't it?

>>90061259
>>90061320
New idea for drawfags if anyone's interested.

Pics of Robin winning the election and making Bloomington great again.
>>
>>90061434
Not really, the main issue is that Robin and Trump don't act similar in anyway. He basically just has Robin paraphrase a few Trump quotes and calls it day. Trump was aggressive, outspoken, and stuck to a very simple and clear message even if the details changed, Robin does none of that.
>>
>>90061495
She's a US Representative, she doesn't enact local policy.
>>
>>90061502
Robin's character is to say outdated 90s slang and kiss girls, Willis need more lesbians so he tried to make her topical in a really stupid way without thinking about it in the long term
>>
>>90061517
Don't overthink the joke.
>>
>>90061632
You gotta work within the confines. Like Roz opens up an apartment complex only for queer students then Robin takes all the credit because with the legislation she passed allowing landlords to deny tenants for any reason is the only way she could exclude non-queer residents.

For reference, the strip from 29 January 2017 is posted.
But I honestly wonder if Willis may have gotten burned out after the election and gave up on trying to stretch out the story, and just tried to wrap things up as quickly as possible.
>>
>>90063105
Willis is pretty lazy, I wouldn't be surprised if he just wrapped it up to just get it over with
>>
>>90050093
>It'd be pretty fucking interesting if Robin isn't interested in Leslie, she's just fucking with Leslie's head

Except we all know Willis isnt that clever a writer.

Also at this point I think Leslie is legally entitled to call the police and have robin taken away. She threw Robin out and Robin went right back in uninvited.

If she REALLY wants to wreck Robin's life, THIS would finally do it. As it was, Robin could at least do some sort of damage control. But now she's essentially committed breaking and entering, being taken away by the police will make her go from having a lesbian affair to being a lesbian STALKER. This is a gold mine for Roz and Leslie.

But again, Willis isn't a clever writer
>>
>>90061320

Wouldn't Galasso make for a better Trump expy, considering how Willis' ilk considers him a businessman dictator?
>>
>>90063648

And a pizza chain owner running for President is not without precedence. Even though that's Herman Cain, not Trump.
>>
>>90063433
Before she showed up at Leslie's house, both Robin and Leslie had grounds for a false light lawsuit against Roz.
>>
>>90061259
Robin shouldn't be a regular part of a series about college students at all if she is a state senator.
>>
>>90063433
>Also at this point I think Leslie is legally entitled to call the police and have robin taken away. She threw Robin out and Robin went right back in uninvited.

I think at this point she has gone into "protecting confused queer person" mode. It's honestly the only explanation I have for her not putting her foot down more. She's basically looking at Robin as being in a rough sitch (mostly because of her own machinations) and feels a need to protect her (and maybe she feels guilty).

Otherwise, like I said, I have no clue why Leslie hasn't followed up on kicking her out. If the answer is still "she has a crush on her" I'm gonna throw a fit (although I expect this is the answer).

>>90063913
>Before she showed up at Leslie's house, both Robin and Leslie had grounds for a false light lawsuit against Roz.
Well, we're still not sure if Roz got the photo taken. Also, I feel like there's enough suspicion on Leslie that she's not gonna be on the plaintiff side of any lawsuits.

I was presuming it was the @Kylo2007 Twitter account you registered, which is why I said it was dumb, as it will be locked in about an hour because someone will probably use it to send death threats or post CP. But do you meant that's the password to WILLIS' @RepDeSanto account? Because that will have even more hilarious consequences.
>>
>>90068987
Oh, my bad.
I refer to the keywords that Willis uses to title strips as "passwords", as everything in the image URL up to the keyword is generic ("http://dumbingofage.com/comics/2017-02-21-"), but you need to insert the keyword into the URL in order to see the strip itself (in this case, "fort.png").

This works because Willis uploads every strip into the Wordpress buffer that he uses with this file-naming system, and as a result you can access strips directly ahead of time if you know the proper "password".

So I've been doing it with Patreon strips as they come out just for the hell of it.

Her writing style switches into first person in that last paragraph, too. I wonder if her therapist would still recommend her daily essays in the comment section if they saw how much of her life she was projecting onto a half-assed webcomic.

Like I said, if he plays along and makes the @RepDeSanto Tweet as seen in the strip, then I'll leave it alone.

But if he doesn't bother, then the account will essentially be run by us.

some people in here have suggested maybe this is the only way that her therapist can get her to talk about her life?

I mean, I also doubt that because I think Cerberus just lies sometimes but what do I know, it's plausible
>>
>>90069585

That seems highly unlikely, considering she never seems to shut the fuck up about her life regardless of whether or not it's relevant to the topic at hand.
>>
>>90069585
So far she's done nothing but project and that's pretty fucking harmless to everyone but herself maybe. It would be entirely fucked up if it did turn out she was lying this whole time. I honestly think that would break the comments section, because you can't just ignore something like that.

I wonder what Cerb's therapist thinks about their life that they have to read DoA and its shitty comment section to get a grip on their patient?

>some people in here have suggested maybe this is the only way that her therapist can get her to talk about her life
if that's actually true, do you think her therapist gives Willis patronbuxs to read her comments?

The funny thing is that, in the hands of a better author, I could see something like what Cerbie's saying happening. Robin constantly tries to seduce Leslie, despite the fact that Leslie has outgrown her initial infatuation, while Robin's handlers constantly try to clandestinely re-catch her while preventing Leslie from calling the cops

...but yeah, even if the cops were both corrupt as hell and/or far enough in the pocket of Robin's campaign for her to completely evade legal penalties, the house is surrounded by paparazzi. They'd be stupid to let themselves get caught being corrupt on a dozen cameras.

I guess it's just nostalgia but I can't help but find Robin and Leslie cute. What can I say, I really liked shortpacked in high school and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

What can I say. I'm easy to win over.

I wish I could think it was cute. I didn't have too many complaints about them as a couple in Shortpacked, but it's just painful to look at in DoA.

Robin/Leslie starting out as a cruel ploy by Roz to destroy her own sister has poisoned me on that ship in DoA.

Cerberus sure likes to hear himself type, doesn't he?

You've got some pretty tame standards for what counts as edgy.

This is insanity.

>>90069402
Ok, wait, *this* is insanity. I've already posited that Leslie might've gone into queer person protection mode, and alternatively, she may just not trust the police. However, Willis needs to show any of that. Have Leslie pick up her phone and threaten to call the authorities, only to waver and stop, maybe Robin could dismiss it as an option *because* of her power. Have Leslie actually explain in no certain terms that she doesn't want Robin around at all, instead of pining by the door after she kicks her out.

Right now the only explanation in the text, is that Leslie is still crushing on Robin despite her being a completely unlikeable person. Which really sucks for her.

>>90070262
While I liked Leslie just fine in Shortpacked, Robin was always a weird sociopath that has rubbed me the wrong way for a while now. It's pretty weird that he doubled down on that even more in DoA while ignoring anything about her that would make her endearing.

I think she was a fine character, as a sort of Walky redux, but more of an asshole and with more interesting sexual hangups, but it made it hard for me to feel happy for her, or some regular girl who is infatuated with her.

Robin has cemented herself as the edgelord by threatening to kill his family.
