What is the "point" of an episode? Not everyone has to progress the overarching plot. I think this episode was important for Steven's character because, even though she wasn't real, he got to at least confront an effigy of his mom over the all the people and conflicts she left behind.

This is why this show suffers from 11 minutes. If we had 22 minutes of Steven and Rose trying to bond and it built up to the climatic drama, we would be able to at least see an interesting scenario of how would Steven be if he actually got to have his mom around?

Instead, they played a video game for 30 minutes, football for a minute, then he yelled at her for 3 minutes. So rather than seeing an interesting Twilight Zone-esque scenario of "WHAT IF..." instead, we just get the writers telling us, "Oh! If you didn't know, this was Steven's character arc from the past season and a half".

My reaction was that this episode had no story just Steven talking to himself.

Fight a monster. Bake a cake. Blow up a microwave. Go to a fireworks factory. Do something other than JUST an episode SOLELY about exposition that ends in you realizing you just spent the entire time playing catch with, and talking to, yourself and verifying your own thoughts and feelings that have been discussed several times before. Yes. He has issues with his mom. This doesn't change any of that.

I think having a substantial chunk of time where they just riff and have a good time would be attempting to have your cake and eat it in this case, if the simulation was actually satisfying in that way than the episode would loose a lot of it's punch

Rose did lie about stuff and keep things secret, but I feel the point of the episode was to dispel the notion that she DIDN'T love Steven and just created him as a means of escape.

the CGs were a ragtag group of gems that defected led by an airhead who lied to them constantly. They likely had no coordination and performed small guerilla strikes like Rose and Pearl did on BDs court non stop because they were not good at formal legit combat. When Jasper came out of the hole she probably found a couple CG nests and went to town Terminator style. Then she killed a bunch in the actual formal battle where Lapis got poofed.

I mean come on. Jasper was built to fight and the CGs are a bunch of non fighters who ran away from Homeworld rule. Not all of them turned out like Pearl or Garnet and could hold their own.

Something has been bothering me about the last episode that I think explains why there's been quite the amount of disappointment about it.

There's been a huge lack of gravity to the important moments. I'm kind of surprised most people here kind of just shrug off the fact that Steven is actually meeting his mother. Sure it's not really his mother but honestly this isn't something that should be treated so lightly and unfortunately that is exactly what happens.

Rose just shows up and plays along with Steven for a few minutes. This wouldn't be a bad thing since this is obviously something he's never done before and has always wanted but the attempts at comedy really weren't necessary, in fact I think they detract a lot from the moment.

I adore the talk they have together especially the part where Steven's considered dying his hair pink. However the yelling falls short to impress once again. I love it when Steven breaks his usual demeanor.It's a fantastic reminder that Steven has a lot of issues that he's both dealing and hiding underneath his smile. But the way he's thrown around by the wind takes away from a powerful scene just to make Rose seem more menacing than necessary. She doesn't even say anything the whole time. The way Steven is drawn really doesn't sync up with what should be an incredibly powerful moment. Guys he's yelling at his dead mother. This should be best effort stuff here and his face is drawn weirdly and not as expressive as it should be. Compare that with him gripping the star on his shirt while yelling at Garnet earlier. After that he's told about the tape rather than shown it. I think showing him the tape would've been way more effective especially if Rose turned into a TV after he tried to punch her for being quiet. A bit much? Well if there were to be an episode with the highest emotions this would be it.

And that ending just ruins whatever emotional tone that was just set. An ending similar to The Test would've been better.

Rose picked up enough gems to not only combat homeworld, but to make them resort to using a nuke to end the war.

You CANNOT lead an army of that size if you aren't planing.
They DID have coordination which is how they were able to kick homeworld's ass off of earth.

The ones who didn't have coordination were the ones that had the built in mindset to believe in homeworld even though they are the most cruelest monsters in the planet and will not resist the chance to shatter your ass even if you were a war veteran, they have no sympathy and it shows they have no coordination since the Rubies are basically fucking mindless toddlers with absolutely no direction for their mission.

Jasper's story is sad because she's living a lie, nothing of what is praised about her all the time is true, it was all just rumors or a coincidence she wasn't shattered for her constant failures.

This is bullshit though. YD was willing to forgive Peridot for her unauthorized use of the private line, failing the mission, crashing the spaceship and losing the crew. She was even ready to send a recovery vessel for her, despite peridots being common as dirt. It took Peri's autistic screaming and a direct insult to make her detonate the communicator.

It would be the same thing as the US dropping nukes in the middle east to stop ISIS. It doesn't mean ISIS won the war or they beat us. It means we don't have a heart or care about civilian casualties and just felt like glassing the whole area and chalking it up as a W.


Also I don't think they kicked homeworld ass off earth. Homeworld dropped a nuke and the surviving CGs went into hiding. If they kicked Homeworlds ass, Homeworld would still be engaged formally in a war with them. They arent.
