The writers didn't read the comics but felt the need to explain the hiccups along anyway , it's how Black Canary got powers, Wonder Girl went from a young Diana to whatever Donna Troy is, and Hawkman became one person instead of two unrelated people who shared a fashion sense.

Technically still canon because Dickbats and Batman Inc are canon, but in practice no because no one will bring it up or acknowledge it.

Writers were extremely autistic about explaining everything in the DCU, but refused to ever contradict anything that had happened before. So they would have to use time travel, hypnosis, mind-erasure, alternate dimensions, clones, magic, and all other manner of insanity to explain away contradictions created by other writers, and to explain how these things had been true all along with nobody knowing or ever mentioning it.
