I know what you mean OP. I'm a sucker for crossover comics (because it always feels like I'm getting two for the price of one).

The basic formula of superhero crossovers is usually=
>"I am character A and I live in A and do A"
>"I am character B and I live in B and do B"
>Plot device happens and they encounter each other for the first time.
>"A: "B, you are different, and I think your bad. Lets fight."
>"B: "A your strange to me, and attacking me. You must be a bad guy"
>They fight. Use their powers/ abilities. Both are impressed with the other.
>Then one of them says "A: Wait a minute, I think I made a mistake. No one who does [Heroic thing] could be bad."
>B:" You are now my friend. Lets team up and fight each others villains!"
>They team up and swap bad guys. Beat up baddies.
>They say good by and "Hope to see you again some day"

Step 1) Pick up any Army Of Darkness crossover.

Step 2) Profit.

What makes Ash such a fun character?

I'd also add Scioli's Transformers vs GI Joe and that Tarzan/Planet of the Apes crossover.

Sonic/Megaman: World Collide is good. Robotink/Wily chatting is funny.

His sequel World United is enjoyable but the ending was not o great.
