25 years ago a bunch of Marvel artists left the Big Two and decided to form their company, with blackjack and hookers. This company would eventually become the closest to a third competitor for DC and Marvel (lol) and the best known creator-owned comic book company out there.
Now it's time for what I like to call the Pre-Saga era, when Image was trying to shed away their "extreme" 90's self and not many were paying attention to them. There were some break-out hits, but not as much as today.
Next up is the new LOST:^), Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma's Morning Glories

Chew:

Did he ever fucking finish this, or did he just publish a special that was the "end"
>>89972183
It's still going.
>>89972215
Ah, I see spencer put out issue 50 as a "season 2 finale" and seems to be taking a break for the last seven months. I assume that Marvel (and bitching on twitter) is keeping him busy
>>89972292
Clearly a guy who's got his priorities straight.
>>89972068
Love this comic so much, i got the omnibus. Feel bad because I haven't read anything after it because I would be confused
>>89972828
That's a really weird statement.
>>89972886
I...think he means that stuff gets really hard to understand after the end of the first omnibus?
I liked this book when it first came out. but it felt like it was going in circles for 20 issues so I stopped.
>>89972957
Yeah, but it's still weird to say "I love this comic even though I haven't read or even understand all of it"
>>89972994
I heard the latter issues have fucking annotations by another guy, as if this is a Morrison comic or something
>>89973236
I'm a few trades behind now, but when I do a reread, I need to pay more attention to scenes like this, because of all of thetime travel bullshitthat happens later on.
>>89973159
We get it Spencer, you liked Lost
>>89972068
>Doing the entire Morning Glories
You're a MADMAN Luthor!
>>89973391
I'm not, I'm only doing the first arc as usual.
>>89973464
dun dun duunn
>>89973789
op dead
Sorry, an emergency came up
>>89972957
>>89973002
That's not what I said. I said i read the omnibus, but I haven't kept up with the single issues afterwards and that's why I am confused.
>>89976025
Ah gotcha, my apologies
Why did these issues have to be so long
Fuck you, Spencer
>>89972185
>T :^),
that teacher its a fucking semen daemon!
I binged this comic a couple of years ago and then basically forgot about it once I was caught up, as is often the case.
I remember liking it well enough, but the Lost parallels were so frequent and blatant that I wondered if it wasn't a straight up Lost tribute/pastiche.
>>89979072
Spencer is a huge LOST fan.He even liked the ending. Yeah
>>89978812
From what I remember from the art in this, all the women of the same age have the exact same bodytype, and the same usually goes for the teens as well
>>89979159
I once heard a guy call the art in this "beautiful". I don't know what he was smoking, this has to be one of the worst Image books out there art-wise.
>>89979224
He probably meant the women are beautiful.
Basically if you like women in uniform/suits this is a pretty good looking comic.
Anyways so much potential but as time went on it went so totally to shit. There's a reason why Chew became a classic and this didn't even though they were both equally important in resurrecting Image.
>>89979224
Seriously, I mean, it is very, very consistent, but can't be too hard when the only thing you change is the haircolour/style
>>89979274
It still has a following of sorts, but yeah, it just kinda fell on the wayside. They were even planning to make a show based on this at one point I believe.
>>89979117
Can we expect Secret Empire to end with someone turning a giant wheel and resetting Cap to normal?*
*That was not the ending of LOST, but whatever
That's all for Morning Glories. More Pre-Saga Image tomorrow!
>>89979309
>>89979274
This is still one of my fav image books, but pretty much all I heard /co/ talk about it is calling it hipster trash and a poor man's Lost
Art wise, it isn't anything special but it's nice that the dude can properly draw races in a distinguishable manner
>>89981450
>hipster trash
This is a buzzterm that has lost all meaning, there is nothing even remotely hipster about this book.
>a poor man's Lost
This I can see on the other hand, but honestly, is it really a "poor man"'s Lost if the actual Lost isn't that great to begin with?
>>89981883
I honestly don't understand why Lost got such a massive negative reaction, as a sci fi / weird shit fan, I loved it.
I do think there's some truth to the latter statement. Unlike Lost I did notice Morning Glories was starting to write itself into a corner with their time travel.
Some guy storytimed this four years ago. I remember because he was getting unreasonably butthurt at everyone questioning the inconsistencies in the story.
>>89972068
It's LOST meets Tower Prep.
>>89972332
>>89972292
>>89972215
>>89972183
Joe has said that its pretty much over for Morning Glories. He's basically moved on from comic books (he teaches now) and he's pretty pissed at Nick because he thinks one of the reasons it dropped so badly in the last few years was because Nick's twitter became so political that people stopped buying everything his name was on. For his bigger books that might not matter, but 300-400 more sales of morning glories and maybe another 10 issues happen.
>>89983220
Tower Prep was a ripoff of this wasn't it?
