Rumble's had a shitfuck of them. Descender has a ton of variants on #1. A few others. But I guess not as bad as IDW books and Rebirth books which always, absolutely always, have at least two covers. IDW has 1 in 10's all the time too.

It's entirely down to the creative team. That's why you see toys and t-shirts for some books and literally nothing for others. It's why Southern Bastards does charity covers.

Furthermore, the financial "trick" of variants is easier to obfuscate when a big company does it. You can't really point at anyone *specific* to blame for a 50:1 Deadpool variant so it's "obviously a sales ploy" but with no one to sneer at. If an Image book did something like that, you could look right at Rick Remender and say "fuck you dude."
