It's all just the character appeal, and I suppose the things do follow something similar to Disney's "Baby Character/Cuteness" guidelines what with the big heads, small bodies and large soulless eyes. With how many of the things they have, anyone walking by can look at them and say, "Oh, there's my favorites character from [INSERT APPROPRIATE POP CULTURE REFERENCE] and they look like a little gremlin!" and then shill out some pocket change for it. I don't like the funko pops at all, mostly because of the stupid eyes. The ones worth different eyes aren't terrible

However, I do own these two. Venom was a gift, and not only was the crimson corsair half price (and it's one of the only figures I can buy of him), but thanks to my brother pointing out a pricing error. I was able to get it for free, meaning I still haven't spent any money on them.

Amiibos are actually DLC for games tho. It adds functionality and characters to a lot of different games, and they are also fun/visually interesting miniatures for collectors and fans. Myself, I stick to scales and cu-poches, but I can't say that I'm attached to the characters themselves of the figures I buy, I just like the way they look. With Pops it's the other way around, the person who buys it is attached to the character rather than the appearance. I really want to get the golden girls pops or reactions, but I can't get over the way they look. Its just different for everybody

I dunno I'm in Canada and the only time i see those things is at the LCS and theyre like 60 bucks, don't get me wrong theyre obviously way better than funkos but when it comes down to it funkos are 10$ desk ornaments and little knick-knacks where sometimes you can find a character from an obscure show that has like, no other merch out for it at all. This is why I hate Funko Pop figurines.
Even if you give certain characters unique molds, when you give every character the same soulless black dot-eyes, it completely ruins the likeness of characters that are notable by their tyically expressive and particularly-drawn eyes.

I almost didn't recognize that was supposed to be the actual Ghostbusters Slimer at first, because aside from his toothy grin, Slimer is characteristic due to his sickly yellow and red eyes that bulge out of his head.

Same with the Mr.P-B figure, I had to take a second to consider his clothes and accessories because he doesn't have the typical Rick and Morty "big and white with tiny scribble-dot pupil" eyes that all R&M characters have.

Comparing Pops and Nendos isn't really a fair comparison. The only thing they actually have in common is that they're the same size roughly. The way I look at it, Nendoroids are chibi action figures with higher quality (interchangable parts and poseable) while Pops are inexpensive and Funko pumps them out in much higher and faster rates, so we see a wider variety of characters. We'd never see all of the Overwatch characters as Nendoroids, and even if we did, it would take years (maybe 2 if they stepped up and pumped out one character a month) and it would cost 4-5 times more than Pops.
It's like comparing Hot Toys and Marvel Legends. They're similar enough where idiots think you can compare them, but they're too different for a fair comparison.

On top of that the stupid square watermelon heads, and the nose. I think this Deadpool Pop Plush came out looking pretty good. I didn't even know it was a plush version of the vinyl figures, also he lacks that nose which was originally on him for a prototype. I think the Mega one has a more square head while the small one loses it being more round. The Pop Plush line seem to vary with Batman having the nose and a mouth and Harley just has eyes. Also I don't know where this line is going, they barely have anything. Though I also wouldn't mind that small Batman, he's also looking less Funko Pop like.

It all depends on the characters. Obviously Chandler is a shitty one -- Rachel is the only Friends character that stands alone imo -- but most people who want one of those will probably have the whole set, making it easier.

But for the most part, Funkos are geek shit, and almost every character has pretty easily identifiable costumes or some kind of marker.

They're willing to make ones covering obscure media and characters that have no other reasonably priced merch since their popular shit more then covers it. It's a matter of opinion but I don't mind the ones based off already extremely stylized or distinctly non human like characters. Generic live action protagonist ones are fucking awful though.

Any figurine without the void eyes is an immenseimprovement; this one goes above and beyond by actually having effort put into it. Hell, I think this is the only one I've seen that even has a nose.

I've only seen two good Funko Pops; this one, and the Sharknado one, and that's for two main reasons. The Big Daddy one, like the one above, actually has effort put into it. Frankly I'm having a hard time believing this was made by Funko, given that its body, while still very small compared to its head, isn't a tiny fraction of the size of its head. Also, it doesn't have any real eyes to fuck up.
The Sharknado one is also good for the same reasons; it doesn't have a body, and they instead use the shark as a head, so it doesn't look like some sort of alien abomination that would collapse under the weight of its own head, and the empty void eyes work perfectly for a shark, since their eyes are MEANT to look like that.

I got some little Star Wars ships with characters heads on top from Kinder Surprises.

Vader was surprisingly well detailed for something so small and in a Kinder Surprise and the Harrison Ford head was actually a decent likeness.

I think it would have made more sense for Vader to be on the Star Destroyer and the Stormtrooper in the TIE fighter but whatever.

I have those, man. Stormtrooper head was also extremely well-detailed. It's obvious where the effort went.
Now R2-D2 was atrocious. Nowhere near as shiny as the promo images made it look, and the paintjob itself was terrible. More of a greenish gold than outright gold.
