Personally I have fond memories of learning about the Battlefield, its place in the SBURB cosmology, and WV's rebellion.

Growing in scope wasn't an issue in itself, but he just didn't rein it in at the right moment.

The definitive moment that the comic really skipped a beat and never got back into it was when Dreambubbles went from weird horrorterror nightmare afterlife to a Get Out Of Death Free card, especially since it solidified the notion of Ultimate Selves which is some of the biggest bullshit in the comic. Even Lord English couldn't pull it back from that and I'd say it caused the vast majority of the narrative issues from there on out. The only plot device that was indisputably more obnoxious and disruptive was the retcon icon.

The trolls would have been just fine if once they died they stayed dead and you didn't see them again outside of the nightmares of other characters. MAYBE they could still be resurrected from there, but they're otherwise out of the story.

As an update reader I thought Act 6 was great until the Megapause.
As an archive re-reader I realize it was pretty fucking weak and paced horribly.

I didn't read the comic until after the ending came out, and before then I tried to avoid any forms of community interaction or spoilers. In the first 4 acts, the only thing that really stood out to me as subpar was the characterization of jade after her dream self died.
Then I reached act 5.1 and genuinely thought that someone else had written it. It was horribly rushed and lacked seemed to lack the strong writing that'd carried the exposition in the earlier acts. 5.2 returned somewhat to quality but felt tainted. Act 6 was wasted by garbage writing and absolutely nothing but relationship drama and teenage angst happening for what felt like an eternity, and almost everything that happened once things started happening felt like a waste of potential. Are you sure that the community here didn't help make things more enjoyable?

The ending was rushed. There's no consensus on where the comic jumped off. You'll get people that say as early as Hivebent, and as late as the last set of major dialogs towards the end.
