Khamala is exactly the reason Marvel's writers have gone on record saying they half-ass their new characters. If a new character catches on, everyone gets a ride until the character's run into the ground and there's nothing the original creator can do about it. Instead, they just go "new Thor is a woman" and call it a day, saving their real ideas in hopes that they end up writing under a publisher that will give them more rights to their stuff.

It was never a trend. The Liberals just thought they could make a move to seize control of the zeitgeist. Most of their efforts were openly mocked (Mockingbird, Whor) or not well-received (Falcon Cap, Miles).
