Hey, if you ignore the fact that the main characters are probably dead, children are turned into trees and chopped down for their oil in order to sustain an eldritch horror, and the whole setting quite likely being limbo or the afterlife, then it seems rather bright.. In his very few appearances, he has solidified his status as being a completely, and utterly remorseless big bad. He doesn't play around, nor has a massive idiot ball. He just gets right down to business. Listen to his speeches, they really convey just how dead set he is on his goal.

Aku, however hasn't gone out of his way to try and mass genocide the multiverse. He also has several chances to kill Jack, but because of the fact that he can't even do anything without stabbing his 'allies' in the back, as well as himself, he always fails. Even when victory is a hairs breadth away. The Litch doesn't suffer from this 'fault'. This doesn't mean that I hate Aku, though. He's a great villain, and manages to be terrifying when he wants to be.

Remember the speech from Gold Star? I think the Lich wants to return to the time of nothing. His inaction in Prismo's lair was a taste of what would happen. Having destroyed everything, the lich would simply go catatonic, knowing contentment in oblivion. He enjoys killing, but it's the same way a farmer enjoys harvesting. He's still glad when the job is done.

Because simple evil for evil sake villains just don't fly anymore. Either you get watered down villains or you get a villain with motivations that are fairly weak. PURE EVIL INCARNATE also can really only exist in a fantasy series like adventure time as a contrast to the GOOD Finn represents. The Lich's origins remain clouded in the bombs that fell that lead to the end of the world also helps his case quite a bit too. I really hope they never over explain the Lich he doesn't need it. Especially by this stage in the series.

I never got the impression that the Lich has such human motivation or desires. He is the embodiment of genocide, born from atomic apocalypse. He doesn't choose to destroy in the same way that rain doesn't choose to fall. It's his nature. That's why he went catatonic in Prismo's dimension; the Lich is incapable of any though or action beyond genocide.

That's also why he's such a scary character. He cannot be reformed or reasoned with because his actions aren't the result of a decision in the first place. The lich simply acts according to his nature.

Zaheer's plan was fatally flawed. Basically, he overestimated the common man and woman. When he told Ba Sing Sei to rule itself, it immediately exploded into a vortex of chaos, looting and destruction, and, if the show was allowed to be darker, probably rape and murder. Actually, most of the Earth kingdom did this, and it took a coordinated army to get things under control again, which is what the arc proceeding Zaheer's was about. Zaheer lived in a fantasy world of ideals and daydreams, not in reality.

I'm not saying he was a bad antagonist, he was quite interesting, but he wasn't the best.

He corrupted the organization's purpose by assuming that humanity would stay disorganized.
