Why did the DCEU have to be built around MoS?

Nolan's Batman Trilogy or even Superman Returns seem like better foundations for DC's Cinematic Universe instead of Man of Steel.

Do Warner Brother's have a plan for future movies, or.....anything?
>>

Nolan's Batman trilogy is exponentially better off not being a part of a bigger universe though.
>>
>>89906550
Nolan's universe couldn't handle introducing super-powered beings. Superman Returns COULD have been the anchor movie, but it was total shit, on top of no one planning on having an entire mythos around it.
>>
Neither the TDK trilogy nor Superman Returns would've been good foundations for a DCCU. They would've been just as bad choices, if not even worse, than MoS.

Honestly, MoS wasn't the best foundation, but it could've worked if Snyder and WB hadn't had gone full fucking retard.

They should've just rebooted again after MoS. Make MoS just to keep the Superman rights, then start the whole thing over again 'for real', because they should've realized MoS wasn't tonally what almost anyone wanted from a Superman movie or a DC cinematic universe.

They had no clear ideas of a cinematic universe at the time. Heck, Green Lantern 2011 would've been their foundation for theirs. They basically just did Man of Steel because they were about to lose the rights to Superman. By being so haste, they promptly picked a hack of a director with a high schooler imagination, though he tells great stories through visuals. This could've worked if, in my opinion, if they hadn't chose to introduce Batman so soon and kept going with at least a Superman sequel. Nope they decided to kill him off in the 2nd movie because Batman is the shit yo. This was a pathetic attempt to live off Nolan's Batman style. I guess a reboot, in say 5 years would appreciated.

Raimi was going to do a sequel to Returns but wanted a year off. There were plans for a crossover with Nolan's Batman. Over that time WB decided to go with a more Nolan-inspired reboot. Not to mention that Green Lantern did so badly it ruined a cartoon show and made the character box office toxic for the studio.

The main problem is competency and nepotism. You can blame Snyder and Goyer but the two are actually very talented, they're just not the right people for this. I would've loved having Raimi back, even though Returns was garbage and worse than MoS.

Just get ready for the Legoverse.

Superman Returns and Batman Begins were originally going to lead into a Superman/Batman movie but Returns underperformed and was critically poorly received, so they decided to wait.

After the success of TDK Nolan got a lot of pull at WB and would never in a million years allow them to set other movies in his universe, Christian Bale refused to be part of it, and just in general the movies were too based in realism to have people with superpowers.

Green Lantern was going to be the foundation for a new cinematic universe as well, but flopped so badly they decided to wait again.

The idea for a series of interconnected JLA movies goes back to the 90's and has been stopped by various circumstances repeatedly.

>but Returns underperformed and was critically poorly received

Returns made more money than Begins. And just checking Rotten tomatoes Begins scored 84% with a 7.7 rating while Returns was 76% with 7.0. Retuns had a larger budget but what I heard a few days ago Returns was supposed to make up the losses for failed Superman projects like Superman lives.

If they made Nolanverse part of the greater universe then people would be like, "Where was superman and flash when Gotham was held hostage by le big guy? xD"
>>
>>89906550
They should probably roll with the TV shows and Lego movies for now. Have the movies strongly connected with the TV shows to separate it from Marvel since the split between Feige and Perlmutter pretty much makes such a thing difficult for Disney.

Some anon claiming to be a WB employee dropped a knowledge bomb in January. Amongst his claims was that a teamup Batman & Superman movie with Brandon Routh and Christian Bale was planned as a spin-off from Superman Returns, but it didn't happen because of WB's disappointment with the box office. A very early press statement by an executive on MoS implies this was the case.

>Retuns had a larger budget but what I heard a few days ago Returns was supposed to make up the losses for failed Superman projects like Superman lives.

Yes. In fact, the reason that former hairdresser Jon Peters STILL shows up as a producer TODAY on DECU projects is paying off crap from Superman IV till Returns.

>Where was superman and flash

A) It's pretty clear that Flash is just starting off and he did so very recently (depending on the actual time line, potentially all after the Kryptonian invasion/world machine. Likewise, Clark wasn't Superman till then. The fact that Batfleck is so much older implies that they want to suggest that he's Bale Batman, who came back from his Euro sexcation with Selina, to get himself a Robin, who got killed by another Joker (since apparently we can now have 3 of them), yadda yadda.

>Raimi

I think you meant Singer?

>teamup Batman & Superman movie with Brandon Routh and Christian Bale

This is not any kind of insider news. There were public interviews by all sorts of people in 2005 and 2006 (and all the way to 2009 prior to the release of Green Lantern), press releases and all kinds of things that you can easily find on-line that talk about various ways they were thinking about doing a Justice League, including using Bale and Routh. One of the main reasons they didn't go forward was that Nolan talked them into letting him do his sequel first and since he had a lot of work done towards that and all the JLA stuff was just tons of ideas with little on paper ....

And this literally happened with Man of Steel anyway.

MoS is best DC movie. Bale should be fucking expensive to have in shitload of next movies.
