Thanks, but the funny thing is I'm not even that much of a Flashfag, I just started buying the first Johns omni back then and felt I needed to buy the other two.
That Marvel sale plus 2 more GL omnis is going to strain my purse though.

That came out wrong. I bought only them when they showed up over the course of two years because I saved the money for it when I was a poorfag myself.

It's also super heavy, easily the heaviest omni I own and the only Marvel one uncomfortable to read. I like The beta ray bill stuff and the invasion of Hel, but then there is a whole lot of Sal Buscema art and the story just kind of goes to shit.

I bought this today at Bed Bath & Beyond, and despite how much I hate Funko Pop shit, this just seems like a cute little Deadpool thing. It's suppose to be a plush version of those shit vinyl figures, but as Deadpool it just works by looking less like a Funko Pop thing. There were also different colored variants of him and this was the last regular color.
>>
>>89906111
how big is that thing?
>>
>>89906594
It's a small one, about 5 inches. There's a big one, but the small they are the less they retain the Funko Pop skull shape. I wouldn't mind the small Batman one too, also because he has a mouth which isn't a feature on them. Though I can't believe how minuscule the line is since it's based on the ridiculous amount of characters they're shitting out in their vinyl line.

Those Birds of Prey trades. I am so jealous, even though they have cheap non-glossy paper. It's going to be at least a year, if not two, before we get the reprints of Simone's run - and I want it so desperately.

TFW no one has Stephanie Brown's Batgirl trades. Maybe when the reprint goes out this summer I'll see more of them. :(
>>
>>89911294
That looks really, really dire, anon.

I've got a lot of older batman stuff, and I'm looking to see if there've been any worthwhile new stories for him in the last 5 years or so.

My lcs recommended court of owls, so I got that, but that seemed like it kinda went to shit at the halfway mark.
>>
>>89911907
Black Mirror is probably the best Batman related story since you've stopped reading. Kings run has been good too dependent upon your level of autism. He usually uses body language instead of dialogue, the first trade is out.
>>

>>
>>89911984
Thanks, I'll check it out.

I read the first volume of King's run and that was fine.

Didn't bug me nearly as much as what snyder did with mr. freeze and how that also didn't fit with the timeline of court of owls at all.
>>
>>89912050
Oh no man, Snyder is the worst outside of Black Mirror and Court of Owls. Zero Year is meh, everything else he wrote was pretty terrible and out of character.
>>
>>89912050
I really enjoy Batman Eternal, which make three nice trades.
>>
>>89912077
A lot of his stories seem to ride on the premise that batman is semi incompetent.

So many things he does or that get by him make no sense.
>>
>>89912050
Batman and Robin, 'Tec with Tomasi, current Tec, All Star Batman and Year Zero are all pretty fun, Dark Knight III, Batman Europa and Eternal were good. And obviously Batman Inc, honorable mention to early Batwing.
>>
>>89912118
Don't even get me started mate. Not only that, he feels the need to subvert all of Batman's history with some big secret reveal. He's a hack and I thank the powers that be every day that he was finally taken off the book after years of torture.
>>
>>89912122
Jesus dude.
Don't recommend All Star or Europa. Literally fan fic tier. Alfred sells out Batman for Christ sake and Joker and Bruce are written like they are in love.

Don't ever rec anything again.
>>
>>89912157
When I got to the stuff with Dick being groomed as a talon in the circus in court of owls I kinda wanted to just stop.

Then, to drive it forward, batman decks robin in such a way that he removes the loaded tooth?

That he NEVER EVER found before despite dick likely having extensive medical testing?

wtf?
>>
>>89912157
All Star is still running, and there's a Capullo reunion event in the works.

>>89912190
There's more than one way to write a character, I enjoy dopey Donner Johns Superman as much as I enjoy space explorer with Busiek and man's man with Byrne. I can enjoy romantic hopeful action hero under Snyder as much as I enjoy boilerplate detective with Brubaker and larger than life eccentric with Morrison. If you sitck with "NOT MUH" you're in for a very bad time with Big Two comics, and more likely than not future forum account on ByrneRobotics.
>>
>>89912253
I'm not even gonna argue with you.

Thanks--Stern was already on my list, so that's a no-brainer for me, but I'm interested in expanding my omni collection to more than the good ol' webhead.

I'm not terribly well-versed in space capes yet, but capes tend to be my jam regardless...does it make sense on its own or are there arcs that should be read first for that omni?

Also how's Werewolf By Night?

That's a lot of questions, so here's my tiny, but growing collection. I have a fair amount of single too, but they don't have much rhyme or reason, nor do they photograph well while "shelved".

A friend back home is dating a dude who does webcomics and is really into kaiju and toku stuff. His name's Brett Cook and he's got a page called Animated Trigger. I got that Supaidaman print along with one of Dragon Ranger & Dragon Caesar/Green Ranger & Dragon Zord from him and he threw in a bonus print with characters from his series Cannonball Fist.

I think he just has his comics listed on his site and sells prints at cons, but if you email him and tell him you're interested in one of his prints you saw online, I don't think he'd have any problems selling you one.

for Annihilation Conquest it's better to read Annihilation first (which is miles better anyway. Conquest is still extremely good, but original Annihilation is the best space crossover ever so there's that) plus the few lead issues of GotG and Nova between the two. War/Realm of Kings has a bit back reading in X-Men, which surprisingly isn't listed there: Read X:Men - Rise and Fall of the Sh'iar Empire, then the stuff listed. But the question is if you really want to do that, since it starts the
>muh Inhoomins
shit.
In any case, read the original Annihilation stuff, it's one of Giffen's finest works.
It's not actually a crossover per-se, since it was meant to streamline the convoluted crap that was Marvel cosmic at the time and make it accessible to new readers. And it did an incredible job doing so.
Why the fuck did they never reprint the Annihilation Omni?

Thank you, Anon. Funnily enough, I started Thanos way back in the day, but it was right before I destroyed my graphics card through overuse.

I've heard of and read some of of the Inhuman nonsense, but are the X-Men issues themselves decent? I might give it a shot anyway because, despite current problems, I do have a soft spot for the X-Men.

I wonder that about a lot of omnis too...heaven knows what makes the publishers' decisions.

they're readable but most people think they're boring. not bad, just boring. brubaker sometimes has problems writing non-crime stuff.

will it ever be? it must be literally thousands of pages by now. how many tpbs you reckon will that be?

Not as many as you think. The two prequel books + six books for the series itself I think.

I'm not sure if they're all still available, but Olivier Schrauwen's stuff (Greys & Mowgli's Mirror) are fantastic. Lando also has great stuff. Mostly wordless trippy sci-fi comics. Sec is really good if you're into comics as poetry. If you're completely new to the scene, check out the Frontier series published by Youth in Decline. It's a pretty good starting point. Very well curated.

>>89916064
I'd like to pick up the Nedroid books at some point, but I'm worried the books themselves will be terrible quality. I also pre-ordered the Super Mega Comics book.

Interesting - I saw most of the old Checkmate TPBs at a used book store a couple of days ago. But they missed the last arc and collected the abomination of an arc Chimera instead. So I dunno why one wouldn't wait for the new trades.

Can you point out the censored parts you're talking about? They re-released volume one Bulma after complaints, but left the black guy from the bunny gang's lips edited out. It will hit Amazon marketplace probably but it specifically says through comic shops so it's going to be Diamond distributed stuff because of that IST should probably have a sale when they get their shipment since they get stuff from Diamond.
>>
>>89932533
the sale hasn't even started yet. cheap-comics mentions "in 2 months" and lists 45€ for the Stern Omni. cheap-comics usually sells omnis at list price or sometimes even slightly higher, it's usually not worth checking except for OOP stuff like the X-Statix omni, which they still sell.
judging from that, the price for americans will be at around 30-40$. 60$ is too expensive.

they use standard paper envelopes for trades and small hardcovers. The real shitty ones. But in my case the package was not damaged and the book was showing heavy signs of shelf wear, all corners were white (hellboy in mexico trade) the edge of the cover was white in many places. Show them pics, they were really fast to offer 3 options of refund (50% the money, replacement book or full refund with the book back) i chose the replacement book, it came like this, plus a lot more damage to the corners, and the package was not bent, so i assum the send me a "very good" book 2 times. Even the hardcover book i order (midnight circus) was not damaged but the cover was really marked (like those marks you see when you put the book in certain positions on the light) like it has had many put in put out of the shelf. They have really nice costumer support, but they kinda suck for what i experienced. The orders take 3 weeks (to poortugal) its a week more than arts and crafts and 2 weeks more than book depository.

The movie, whilst imperfect as an adaption, is a pretty good bronze age cape story, though.

Probably not the best place to ask but I don't want to make a thread for it.

Been getting in to comics a bit recently, mainly been lurking. So far i've read The Incal, Sandman, Watchmen, Hellboy vol1, Habbi, and Killing Joke. I own Bone, Daytripper and Jimmy Corrigan but I haven't read them yet, I'veborrowed Planetary off a friend as well.

I'm looking for some recs but not really sure what's good, i'm thinking of Megahex, Wonder Woman omni, Nikopol Trilogy, Love and Rockets, The World of Edena. Any thoughts on these ones? Any recs of your own? I don't really want anything too long.

I browse these threads for ideas but i'm not really sure at the moment.

This is much less essential to the Jodoverse than Metabarons or the other Incal books.

If you liked Incal more for the art, then definitely pick up Edena. Moebius adiopts a more minimalist approach to linework on that one, but it really only shows how good he was at his craft. Not much Jodo-penned stuff that's outright bad, either.

For other trippy sci-fi-mystic stuff that doesn't get mentioned too often around here, there's Dreadstar: The Beginning, Arkwright Integral, and Moonshadow (I prefer Blood as far as DeMatteis goes, but that may be a bit too out there for you).

I also bought more bags and backs to put them in cause I don't remember EXACTLY how many this entire JSA run is, bit I wanna make sure I have enough bags.

I honestly only bought the first because I couldn't find the Essential trades at the time, since all my other Marvel Horror titles are in that format and I feel the B&W adds a Universal Monsters sort of ambience to the stories. >>89970592
Yeah...have you seen his painted stuff from when he started?! Like, erm, he did an arc with that mustachioed, muscular dandy vampire character from The Megazine...was it Deacon something?!? Anyway I remember first seeing his stuff all those years back and I wasn't keen on him then, he was part of the wave of, not Bisley imitators per se, but as the old editor (?) of Toothy sez in the documentary about the comic: "suddenly anyone with a toothbrush and some red paint were putting hyper-gory exit wounds everywhere" (I'm paraphrasing). And I'm with you on his current style--lots of technical ability, very, very little interest. No wonder he gets called a hack.
Changing the subject I watched Mad Max: fury Road for the first time recently and was STUNNED by how much "Brendan McCarthy" there is on the screen...it's like one of his early, balls-out mental comics come to life! So fucking impressed. You can literally point to anything on the screen at any time and go: "McCarthy...McCarthy...McCarthy...OHHH that's PURE McCarthy...", know what I mean? Plus the direction, cinematography, story, SFX and script hardly take away from it's sheer fucking awesomeness...fucking blind guitarists with instruments that shoot flame..."McCarthy!"

Heh. I guess it is!
Devlin Waugh! THANK YOU! Can't remember if his first published work was for Toothy or The Megazine...did he do anything for Crisis? The one devlin Waugh arc i remember was where he was in some underwater facility battling other vampires(?) or something. I actually liked the character desu. It was a John Smith creation, wasn't it? The only reasons I said about him being a hack is a) 'cause of the byline on his website ("hardest working man in comics or hack? You decide!", or something like that) and b) he had a good few drubbings and accusations of hackery in the print TCJ and on the old messageboard. Like I said technically he's great but I just find his work very soulless...

The TCJ preview is what made me buy it. I'm usually not a fan of autobio comics because of the tendency for them to be diary comics. I hate those. Pretending is Lying luckily isn't like that.

>The pound is stronger than the euro

For now, within the next two months Article 50 will be triggered and we'll probably reach parity.

>>
>>89972007
Have you read summer of Love by debbie Drechsler (I always recommend that one!)? Or A Child's Life by Phoebe Gloeckner? Or any Aline Kominsky-Crumb stuff? If you like interesting, "non-diary" autobio stuff then I'd strongly recommend those. Also Julie Doucet's autobio stuff, especially My New York Diary (it HONESTLY doesn't read like a diary!) or her dream journal My Most Secret Desire? Also Carol Tyler and Mary Fleener make GREAT autobiographical comics. For male autobio I HIGHLY recommend Sick by Gabby Schulz, one of my favourite books of 2016, so raw it's like being punched in the gut with a spiked knuckle-duster. You really feel dragged along with him through this awful illness he experiences...Monsters is amazing, too (though that's credited to Ken Dahl, the pen name he started publishing under), it's about how herpes destroyed his most meaningful relationship and it's recently gotten a second printing (first go for pretty crazy money now), they're both put out by Secret Acres. I hope you'll give at least some of these a try, that's if you haven't already.
But yeah those TCJ previews convinced me, too. I'd already seen bits and bobs of her work but was kind of on the fence about it, plus she has very little (if anything (else)) in English, AND L'Association published Pretending...and they're pretty much the first 12 years of Def Jam Record's output in terms of sheer reliability, like you KNEW every release would never be anything less than great...Cheers Anon!

The character was co-created with Phillips, according to the internet.
He's more of a "craftsman" than an "artist" (like say McCarthy) mostly because he hasn't written anything and focused on illustrating. I have bigger problems with his partner in crime (nyuk nyuk) Brubaker. I've only liked his autobio stuff and Criminal. Gonna try Sleeper this year, tho.

Didja read Brubaker's Lowlife, then?
Oh the TCJ messageboard was a thing of wonder...you'd get most of the alt. "stars" commenting, Chris Ware occasionally, I recall Dash Shaw and Santoro were on there a lot, LOADS of narkiness and sometimes downright offensive attacks on creators from Kim Thompson...I was only on there for the last 18 months approximately but the place was a fucking riot, especially when johnny Ryan chipped in! Definitely. Think it was just a case of low sales...and Kim Thompson famously hated his work! I know he bought and gave so much to the medium but Christ, he could be merciless with his critiques and INCREDIBLY sparing with his praise. Like he famously told Chris Ware (forget which issue he was referring to but it was one of the last Fanta ones) when he'd read the original pages: "yeah, it's okay...I guess"! Dude was merciless, may he rest in peace. You gonna buy We Told You So: A History of Fantagraphics Books? I really fucking want it but my "LCS" doesn't have it yet. Forgot to say, the "damage" on your copy is in exactly the same place as mine, and looks to extend as far into the actual book.
Yeah I can barely believe Fanta STILL have copies left for sale; considering that Sir Alfred appeared on SO MANY people's "Best of 2016" list I thought they'd be long gone...my FB friend/penpal Walt Holcombe (who did King of Persia and has the great Fanta collection Things Just Get Away From You) is good mates with Tim Hensley; he said he'd mentioned me to him and that I'd had a bit of a gripe about the postage but seeing as it was a comic I HAD to have I thought fuck it; anyway in my next PM with Walt H. he wrote: "oh, Tim says he's sorry you had to pay so much postage and kind of feels guilty"! 'Course I said "tell him don't be silly; I'm a HUGE fan and I fucking needed that book!". Pretty weird sensation knowing that two of your favourite cartoonists in the world discussed you over breakfast and specifically asked the other to apologise to me on their behalf....
>>
>>89974775

Googled the guy he sounds like a pretentious twat, and alt-comics aren't some sort of elevated form just because they're weird, hate elitist comic people..
>>
>>89976736

the 1:12 punisher looks cool, never really was into the way the DD one looked though, its weird... some of their figs look great and others just dont work, they've got a bunch of new ones coming out soon and theres a few of them that still look too base level "mezco-ish" its usually the costume
>>
>>89978796
How do you even fucking know?
>>
>>89978796
They may not be elevated but they're the main force for innovation and "stretching" of the medium. I'm not saying YOU do, but if you only read capeshit then imho you don't really care about the artform. And alternative/small press creators are some of the nicest fucking people you could ever meet and not elitist in anyway. Being a cheerleader for innovative, alternative, underground, "art" comics and elitism are not mutually inclusive. And like >>89978868 said, if you're not family with this type of comics then how DO you even fucking know?!
>>
>>89979562
Meant "familiar with this type of comics"
>>
>>89979562
Different anon, I have read very widely and you can love the artform just fine even if all you read is capes or action or whatever.
Do you think fiction readers don't feally like reading be ause they don't read history for pleasure?
Lol.
Where do you even get off telling other people what they really love.
Jesus.
Check yourself.
>>
>>89978828
Like you I can take and leave parts of the Mezco look. Some costumes are too busy and others are too simple. One thing is for certain, they're going to make me buy that Deluxe Punisher figure in a couple of weeks, or at least hunt down loose parts on eBay.
>>
>>89979562

Seeing comics as some sort of high end artform is what makes you a pretentious twat.. comics are comics some are good, some arent so good but deciding that youre weird shoddily made alt-comics made by obscure people is whats really "streching the artform" makes you a fucking elitist dick.

I read capes and non cape books alike, and enjoy what I enjoy, enjoy your stapled construction paper covered newsprint comics if you want, but it doesnt make you somehow better.
>>
>>89980058

I have nowhere to display nice figs and I'm a smoker so I basically just covet things i can never have but the Dredd fig from them is one I would definetly get if i had the $$ and space.
>>
>>89976736
On a side note I fucking hated these stands originally, but now I love them. 'they're huge and tacky' no fuck that they work.
>>
>>89979708

>>
>>89980233

Yeah stands never look good but if you want a dynamic pose....

no need for them if the fig is in a neutral stance though.
>>
>>89980264
my tic does whole sentences to posts different than the one my pointer is over
>>
>>89980121
If you think I think I'm somehow better than you because of the material I choose to read then you're most assuredly wrong. I'm not criticising anyone's taste, I'm just saying that capes/genrestuff (maybe not so much the latter, some indie companies are reinvigorating sci-fi etc tropes) have by and large ceased to be a force for innovation within the medium.
>>89979708
Couldn't exactly understand what you meant 'cause of spelling/grammar (NOT an attack btw) but that's completely different. Literature has never been exclusively and inextricably tied to one genre in the way comics have--and, yes, I know superheroes were but one stage in the medium's development but they're the stage that resonated the most with consumers and have been the most popular and financially successful for the longest. I too have "read very widely" over the 34 years I've been reading comics...and if what you say was true artists alley's and small press publishers would be given equal representation at big-ticket cons. They're not full of people who love the medium, they're full of people who love I.P's. I have PLENTY of cape/genreshit in my collection, BD, some bits and bobs of manga....I stand by what I said. It's like people who say "music is my LIFE!!!" and they just listen to pop chart shit...same thing.
And I've checked myself plenty of fucking times, believe you me.
>>
>>89980576
Meant to say, "if you think I think I'm better than..."

>>
>>89980576

>I'm better
Sure, buddy.

Your verbosity and weasel words aside, you do not get to decide who loves the medium, and "34 years" is a pathetic appeal to authority and a desperate plea for shelf cred, too.

I'm serious. I used this website. https://comicbookrealm.com/series/3551/0/dc-comics-the-green-lantern-corps-vol-1 Based on the age and condition of the comic it gives you estimate of its value today.
>>
>>89980121
Oh and for the record comics CAN be a "sort of high-end artform"...with an attitude like that you're limiting what the medium can be. And for the record I HATE arty-farty pretentious shit that's "high-brow" just for the sake of it..."alternative"/underground is a BIG umbrella that is home to many approaches, indeed lots of so-called "fusion" cartoonists use genre settings to tell their stories. I actually tend to prefer straight-ish narratives and am only occasionally enticed by stuff which is trying to "re-invent the wheel". Too many alt cartoonists DO take themselves far too seriously, which is a cardinal sin in my book--but treating the work seriously, whether it's the most outrageous johnny Ryan/S. Clay Wilson/Crumb comics or quiet, contemplative stuff like Seth or Antoine Cosse is obviously paramount for a great cartoonist. Look at Joe Daly. Daft stoner dick 'n fart humour. Not a "serious" work but here's a bloke who takes his craft seriously. The schism occurs with your work-for-hire corporate hacks, where you get the feeling it's just a job--and low and behold, when they get some "pull" they move to fucking computer game design or film concept art or whatever. Dudes like that just wanted to make pretty pictures--not tell a story. I'm digressing but I think that attitude is rife among mainstream artists.

I know it's fucking crazy. I wish I could support them more by buying straight from them but since I fucked off Amazon after I bought the Blighted Eye/Jim books when they came out, I'm sticking to my LCS. It's not my LCS, it's in the Midlands UK but I have a standing mail-order with them, and they put aside things they think I like, since the manager and most of the staff share the same tastes. They rule, they've got many connections in the U.S with Spit -And-A-Half and things like that, they ordered me a copy of Sick from Secret Acres, there's nowt they won't do for you. Plus I used to live in the city (Nottingham) where the shop is in the mid-90's, they're really responsible for getting me into some crazy fucking comics...the Golden Age of The Alternative Floppy. And I don't just mean Clowes/Ware/Hate, I mean really obscure Fanta/Tundra/Starhead/Cathead Comix stuff and they're HUGE supporters of self-published stuff--they have a policy whereby anyone can send in their self-pubb'd stuff for review, and if they like it, they'll stock it, even if you have literally NO name for yourself...if they think it's good and their customers'll like it, they'll take it. And I think that is cool as fuck.

I got Ms. Marvel OHC v2 for $8 on Amazon (thankfully got it for the same price after getting a refund for the poorly packaged, horribly damaged one I got at first), but haven't found
v1 cheap enough until today. With my 30% coupon for B&N, I can get it from their site for about $16 with free shipping.

Neat trick for those who may not be aware, if you have a membership card, you can reuse the same coupon code on B&N's website over and over again until it expires. I used my last one to get like five separate books this way.You can do it without a membership too, I suppose, but then you'd have to pay shipping for each book separately.
